Tanner my screen on this plot held up until around January. I’d plant just a little thicker than I did last year and shoot for 15-20LBS. At that rate I believe it would cover you all hunting season. Thanks for watching

Thanks Caroll, this particular screen was sun hemp and Egyptian wheat. I was hopeful the sun hemp would provide enough nitrogen that I wouldn’t have to add any, but in my case it was turning light yellow, so I threw a bag of urea at it and greened it back up! Thanks for watching!

@@DIYfoodplotpro Did you Innoculate the Sun Hemp before you planted it?

I did not inoculate it, and I don’t remember if it was pre inoculated or not, but I’m thinking it wasn’t.

I can’t say on the sorghum Sundan grass, as I’ve never planted it! I really liked the Egyptian wheat thought, cheap and easy! Thanks for watching

Droughts are tough man, sucks because the weeds/grasses don’t ever seem to stop growing but the plants we are trying to grow, tend to not be as stout! Did the switch end up making it through? Thanks for watching!

@@DIYfoodplotpro you’re the food plot man!!! But if you can get atrazine I think it would be money well spent!!! So I did 5 areas of switch. About 12’ wide. I think 2 did well but 3 of them not so hot. Honestly I’m just gonna wait till this summer to see what all comes back then I might come back in and re drill certain spots if I have to.

I can definitely get atrazine…no problems there. Might try one spot with and one spot without, just as an experiment. Atrazine is good stuff, use it in corn every year!

Did you drill the switch or broadcast? I’m going to try and get the drill back over to do my switch planting.

@@DIYfoodplotpro so I broadcasted first go around and then it didn’t rain for like 26 or 28 days. Then after it did rain I waited about 2 weeks and not much came up so I re planted it with a drill.

I planted my Egyptian wheat last year at 10-14LBS per acre. It was a good rate but this year I’ll prolly shoot for 15-20LBS per acre. Thanks for watching

15 to 25 helps hold down the grass, and weeds.

I’m sorry I don’t have the earthway spreader so I can’t say for sure on that. I’ve got one of the old style, and I always set it low and spread multiple times over the plot.

Honestly I am not sure on that….i would feel like the Egyptian wheat would grow so much faster it would shade the switch out but that’s just a guess. If you wanted a screen now, but wanted it yearly I’d plant Egyptian wheat on the inside in a 8-10 foot wide spot, then next to it plant the switch. Once the switch took control, you could just add the spot where the Egyptian wheat was back into the food plot. I’m not sure on def, I’ll have to look into that….ill try to make a video on it, as I’ve had several folks ask the same question. Thanks for watching

Sun hemp works better with Switch Grass, it takes 2 years to establish switch grass, plugs work better than seed.

The Egyptian wheat did very well for me as a screen….but if your way up north I could see where it could potentially lose some of the ability to screen after several hard frost. I would just plant the screen thicker than my 8-10 foot width if I was worried about it playing out to soon. Thanks for watching!
