Had this SAME filter on my 125 salt water aquarium 35, yes 35 years ago !!! Bought a Diatom and my 2217 was all I needed.Pain in the back side to put together , but great once I finally did it. Bought a new one from Big Al's, NEVER had to open the instructions with Thomas and his how to video. My Discus are happy and healthy. Water change every night and my 2217 !!! THANKS guys. Woody's Discus group on FB..
Outstanding filter! Have been beating my head against the wall trying to get two brand new Fluval FX6 filters to run correctly and quietly as my Eheim 2217 ran silently in the background with zero issues.
Straight up- I quit dealing with Big Al's about 15 years ago after I was shipped damaged product and customer service ignored me. This video channel is a great way to get me back interested in Big Al's. Keep it up!
Hey John Daly! Thanks for the comment, we appreciate it! I'm very sorry to hear about your bad experience with Big Al's in the past. A lot has changed here in the last 15 years, and we're working harder than ever to make sure every customer has a great experience with us-- and these videos are just a part of what we're doing to ensure that. Glad to hear that you enjoy our videos-- if you have any suggestions for future vids you'd like to see, let us know and we'll do our best to make it happen :)
I bought my two Eheims from Big Al's about 10 years ago. I still have them today. Only problem I have ever had is when we moved I was unable to reset it up for over a year and the seals dry rotted. Was easy to fix however, but getting new seals from Eheim took over 2 months to get shipped to me due to holiday season. They are a little expensive but worth every penny. Even with that being said they have gone down in price quite a bit since I bought mine, and yet I have never had to buy another filter. Right now I am still running my Ehiem pro on a 150 gal mbuna tank and the other is the ehiem 150 that now runs a small 75 gal outdoor pond instead of a pond filter.
Just got back into the hobby after 20 years. This video was just whatt the doctor ordered!! Just purchased Eheim 2213 from you. Cant wait to get started!! One question though. Is the setup of the 2213 the same as you describe in the 2217 video? Thanks for your help. Keep the video's coming. Phil
Philip G. Cianci - Thanks for watching! Welcome back to the hobby! The setup of the Eheim 2213 and the 2217 is almost identical. The only differences are that the 2213 uses the same size tubing for BOTH the inlet and outlet, and it also has a single media container to make things a bit easier. Other than that-- setup is identical!
Hi Thomas. I have a aquarium of 72 inch x 18 inch x 18 inch. I am unable to decide which eheim filter should I use to keep my aquarium clean. Can you please help
Still the beat filter on the market. It’s not about the flow, it’s how well your water is being filtered. Eheim all the way! I’ve sold hundreds of them through the years. Remove the charcoal pad and replace with 2 chemi pure, remove floss pad and replace with ehfi synth!
just put this on my 40 gallon with spraybar, the flow is almost too strong. any suggestions? i have turned the outflow valved slighty to slow down outflow.
The 2217 is the absolute quietest filter I have EVER had in 5 decades (+) of fish keeping and breeding ! It is also a fantastic filter. My first one was 35 years ago!!!! The 2217-600 holds more media than the Fluval 406!!!
im looking for a new filter for my 55g mbuna tank. right now I have 2 hob 350 biowheel filters. but they are noisy (one of them actually) if I buy a 2217 from big als would it be quieter? and would it replace the 2 penguin 350s ok? would it be an upgrade?
+flyinbryan1619 It will certainly be an upgrade considering the amount of media the 2217 holds versus the pads and bio-wheels that the two 350’s have. You will probably want to consider running a power head with the 2217 to make up for the difference in flow though. The two 350’s push 700gph together, while the 2217 pushes only 264 gph and has flow optimized for the biological media to function at its best.
i disagree on 160 or 110 gallons. its having hard time in my 75 gallons. so its only upto 50 gallons below honestly. my trickle filter works better compared to this.
David Matsunaga completely agreed , ain't no way this shit can keep a 100 gallon clean. I have 2 in my 120 and I still have to add power head. this shit goes 50 g at most
