Did you know there are only 8 permanent (semi-permanent) lava lakes in the world. Some of these lava lakes have been active for a long time without stopping and some had small periods of repose but enough to be considered permanent. For example Kilauea volcano had a summit lava lake from 2008-2018 and restarted again in December 2020. Kilauea also had a decades long lava lake inside the Pu'u O'o crater. Here we have Nyiragongo, Masaya, Erta Ale, Ol Doinyo Lengai, Mount Erebus, Mount Michael Saunders Island, Kilauea and Yasur Volcano

I appreciate you doing a full overview of all the persistent lava lakes. I'd never heard of the Sandwich Island lava lake before. Some of the footage you include is truly stunning, the eruption of Erebus was awe inspiring. It's always nice to see footage of the Ol Doinyo Lengai lava, awesome that you got to film it in person. Cheers.

Thanks! Mt Michael of the Sandwich Islands has a confirmed lava lake at it's summit. Ol Doinyo Lengai is my favorite volcano. I visited in 2001,2002 and 2004 and spent one week inside the crater each time. There is a small lava lake only a few meters in diameter at any given time. In 2002 lava destroyed half of our food and water and nearly killed our guides while they were asleep.

What a wonderful presentation Jeff. I like the part where you showed a huge violent explosion of lava that was very close up. Then in a smooth voice you say, "Since there is no longer a camera, we can see the satellite view."

Thanks Tim! Ah you talking about Mt Erebus. Yes that volcano is very difficult to climb. The landscape itself is harsh. They had a webcam up there but got destroyed sometime over 10 years ago.

Thanks! Video lengths are dependent on the subject matter at hand as well as the amount of material :) I do have longer videos that are 20 to 30 minutes long due to having a lot of material to cover. Yes did see the spam message in my notifications but not here. Many times RU-vid will remove spam. When you report a comment as malware, YT will remove it if it finds it. Thanks again :)

Such a fantastic video!! I didn’t know about the Tanzanian Volcano. Went to Erta Ale years ago, and you cannot reach it by car. You must either hike or take a camel to the top.

Thanks! Ol Doinyo Lengai is a very unique volcano. It erupts natrocarbonatite lava which is black in color during the day and glows dull red at night. It has the consistency of oil so it flows fast which makes it dangerous. One must climb a steep ascent to get to the top. I have always wanted to visit Erta Ale, it is on my bucket list!

Ring of fire is shaped like a horse shoe and on the right is Mt Michael lava lake at 700 miles wide and erebus lava lake on the left side of the ring of fire and it is 600 miles wide and under the earths crust there's a channel of magma flowing between erebus lava lake and Micheal lava lake and they balance the earth on it's axis

You should include the elevation above the sea bed for island volcanoes.
