Hi George and Xeno! I'm really enjoying these extra little videos. I remember having the split veggie dish as it was called in our home. Always had to serve 2 different colored vegetables to keep meals appealing to the eye. My Mom would never serve a one color meals if we had plain chicken and potatoes, the veggies had to be green and orange because yellow was to similar. 😂 I still keep colorful meals in my home today 😊
Thanks! We do extras on occasion and these were fun for us. Had to have a green and a "yellow" vegetable (mom didn't like it when we pointed out the carrots were orange) with every meal. Colorful meals help us live longer! (Unless it's a steady diet of Spumoni ice cream)
Hi George, I remembered when our grocery store came out with generic food labels. The labels were in black & white with a very simple font. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
My son was a missionary in Haiti for five years! I’ve got a cute jewelry box from there and a manger scene that was hand carved! The deforestation was a tragic! When I visited there, I was shocked at how horrible the poverty is. I knew it was terrible, but knowing it and then seeing it is two different things. I will never forget it.
Oh, very interesting! I'm glad you still have that, with all the problems over there not much has remained of old Haiti. It is so tragic how badly mismanaged their nation has been...in part because of outside influences...
@8:30 ooh cool, I have the matching Sunbeam toaster with the Worlds Fair design. It's the wonderful kind of toaster that slowly lowers the bread and then raises it back out when it's done instead of launching it into orbit. I don't even eat bread but I'm keeping it to document the decline of civilization. 😅
Love the vintage ice buckets I have my grandparents buckets from both sides, one is gold tone with lucite handle and the other is black pleather with chrome handle
The West Bend Penguins were a pre-WWII design not produced until 1948 , and they kept producing it. A lot of it. The Haitian wood pieces... Haiti is half of Hispaniola. The other half is the Dominican Republic. They didn't cut down their trees and the country is in far better shape. Probably a chicken and egg scenario, but there it is.
I liked that "Silver Fade" carafe set, with the holder. It has a smaller footprint, so it wouldn't take as much space to display, and it fits right in with my beverage sets collection. I'd like to have a Hocking "Rings" beverage set, from the 1930s, with no ice lips...just no space for it. Fun video with interesting items!
I like glass sets in holders a lot, I always envisioned having a large enough space to have a party with them! I do really like the pattern sets too, for being so widespread when new, I don’t often get them in good shape anymore
Those "Rings" sets were bad to lose paint where lemonade would run down the front of the pitcher, under the spout. It's almost impossible to find one that doesn't have some paint loss there. For me, that wouldn't be a big issue, though...it's kind of expected. It's like trying to find a piece of Fenton "Orange Tree", with the four feet, that doesn't have, at least, one chip on it. The old cast iron sinks weren't very forgiving to those feet. Chips, on those, are expected. Those feet are one reason Fenton never reintroduced the table, water and berry sets, in the "Orange Tree" pattern. @@TheAntiqueNomad
If you look at the old historic photographs of the Indian chiefs, you will notice furs with the heads on them as part their regalia. I was commissioned to paint a color portrait of the native American chief Medicine Crow. It was quite a challenge from an old black-and-white photo.
Funny because now that ice buckets are in, I don't pick them up anymore. I just couldn't sell them for much. I actually did better on vintage coolers. The plastic inside the ice buckets tend to stink.
It's interesting to hear that, I am cautious about the plastic ones I buy as well. Offgassing and chemical issues with plastics are real, so hopefully people are judicious about whether and how they use vintage pieces.
I’m gonna have to get a penguin ice bucket one day. 🤣 I do like the blue green drip glaze hobbiest horse. I saw an antler chandelier which made me nostalgic for my married years in the mountains of Utah and Wyoming. This store seemed to have a good variety of interesting merchandise and I really enjoyed you showing it to us!!! 👏👏💚💚💚🙏
I have decided I have to have one too! I have seen Laura and other joke about finding them so much that I want to get one! They should start a game and see who finds the most in a years time!
I was married in 1972 when avocado was big! I didn’t like it then, and I still think that the only place avocado belongs is in a salad I like all the colors of Pyrex, except the avocado!
Taxidermy and old fox stoles just creep me out, maybe because I am an animal lover. Love Pyrex, just a little spendy for me right now. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Understood, I don't favor new fur but I also don't want what's left of the beautiful old creatures who gave their lives for this to be thrown away (especially because it might persuade someone not to look for a new one)
Thank you for explaining vintage items! Do you have any chance to put the caption for each item name you show to us? I put the subtitle, but sometimes it is wrong spelling. I need it to search for eBay.
I honestly don't! At least, not as I think of what that means. I assume people with that kind of memory just see the original document in their mind...I do it all by rote memorization
Hmmm that's interesting, I saw something that was 3 times what I paid but not 8 times. I'll have to rewatch, Xeno usually does the thumbnails and captions and so I'm not sure what he heard that we didn't!
This was another fantastic video as always! I never cease to be amazed at the incredible knowledge you have of so many things! Even if there are things, I did not collect it does not matter I enjoyed learning about them! I enjoy seeing things are familiar with! Zeno I’m so thankful for you doing the filming! It makes for a great video to be able to see Jorge discussing and pointing out things! You are invaluable to Jorge! I’m trying to get my channel going, and wished I had someone to help me film!
Sorry Xeno! Siri always translates you to Zeno and George to Jorge. I should check better before I hit send. She also translates words wrong and I don’t catch it. I think Siri doesn’t get my Texas accent! Lol!
Wild George, you are great. I am so glad you are so knowledgeable about all this stuff. It really really isn't enjoyable? I look forward to videos all of them.😊😊😊😊😊😊
Lol that's funny and mostly true! I am so used to working with someone as a team over the course of my career that I say "we" reflexively. I want to be sure everyone gets credit I guess!
Please address vintage beer cans in a show sometime. I see you occasionally have them on your display tables but haven’t seen them discussed yet. I’m new to your channel on RU-vid so you may have addressed these already. Thanks
