Testing out the new Einstar 3d scanner on low-medium accuracy automotive parts.
www.einstar.co...
$50 discount code: BAMBEDS
The results for this tailgate were within the measurement error of the measuring tape that I used to validate the scanned measurements.
Dimensional Results:
Scanned Length (center of bolthead to center of bolthead): 1349mm - 53.1"
Measured Length 53.1"
Scanned Width (rim of groove to rim of groove) 317mm - 12.5"
Measured Width 12.5"
I've also tested out the Revopoint Pop2 and the Iphone 14 Pro.
The Einstar has completely blown them out of the water and opened up a lot of new value in the $1000 price range.
Laptop: Alienware M-15-R7
CPU: i9
RAM: 32gb
Video: RTX 3080, 8GB
Cost: $2150

This is an excellent example of this scanners capability. So glad Revopoint have some competition in this low price segment now. Sick of their over promising and under delivering. Looks like im listing my Pop1 for sale and getting one of these!

Thanks, Ive been looking for someone to make a measurement comparison like this with this scanner! Although you should really get a metric measurement tape ;)

Thanks for video.. Great showcase... Don't understand why U sticked markers on part and then use alignment by texture... Also ... Can U write what specs is Your laptop?
@bambeds
@bambeds Год назад
I tried using alignment by markers and the hybrid alignment mode which uses both features and markers. Neither setting tracked as well as texture tracking mode. Even without markers, texture tracking mode was the easiest to use.

I am totally hesitant to sell my Pop 2 for this one. I bought it to scan parts of vehicles in order to design parts in the overlanding world: Roof rack, interior drawer system, rock slider, skid plates, bumpers, interior equipment (custom MOLLE grills, etc). And I have a lot of trouble scanning the trunk of my SUV with the Pop 2. I have to put dry shampoo all over it because since the interior is black it can't see anything, which makes the whole vehicle dirty and takes me all afternoon to clean it. As soon as the POP 2 doesn't have 5 markers in the viewfinder it is lost. So I have to go back to some places to resume the tracking, except that it sometimes re-creates new layers and that distorts everything. For smaller scans, like the scan of the inside of my back window, it's fine. For the rest, I have trouble. Would you advise me to switch to the Einstar? Thank you very much for your excellent video.

Yes absolutely. I tried the POP2 and returned it immediately when I discovered how poorly it held it's tracking. That said, you'll need a good computer to run the Einstar so that can add a lot in cost but it's 100% worth it. The tracking and the software are night and day compared to the pop 2.

@@bambeds Thank you very much for your quick response! I had indeed read that Einstar's software is very heavy, do you think it will fit on my i5 7300HQ + GTX 1060 max g design laptop with 32GB RAM? I've read that the CPU was mostly managing the mesh speed, and that it was mostly the RAM that was greedy. I only plan to scan with the laptop, then send the files to my desktop pc which has a GTX 1070. thanks! I bought the POP 2 520€ during black friday in France, I just put it on sale for 600€ since it's worth 800, if I win 80€ it would be nice 😁

@bambeds Год назад
@@HenryRedbeardOverland I think that would be fine, I've got 32gb as well and that is sufficient 95% of the time. 64GB would be useful though. I'm usually maxing out my RAM when processing the mesh after scanning. Let us know how it goes with your computer!

I have a revopoint mini and while it is pretty good considering I got it presale for $400, their software is absolute garbage and at around 3:28 I'm sort of traumatized from the little jerk you did. I thought it was going to lose tracking and cause an infinite amount of scan data to keep replicating since that's what's happens with me and revopoints software so many times, especially with the slightest of round objects regardless of markers. My biggest use of the scanner was to bring 3d scans into CAD to reverse engineer them but the software really cripples the process. Not sure if you've messed with the mini but this looks a lot more promising, I'll probably try out some actual 3d scanning spray before I sell my mini and get the einscan instead. Awesome showcase appreciate it a lot

I just bought the Pop 2 and am also having trouble using it. I want to create parts for the overlanding field, and I started by scanning the interior of my Honda CRV to make a custom drawer system, and without using the spray and markers it's absolutely impossible, and even with that, if the Revo doesn't have 5 markers in the sight, it's lost. I got it for 520€ during blackfriday, I'm also hesitating to resell it, or send it back as I've had it for a week...

@@HenryRedbeardOverland If it's possible I would suggest to resell the pop2 or return it and get a refund. The hardware no doubt can work well but their software just isn't any good and they take a long time to release any updates. From what I've picked up, software is equally as important as hardware with 3d scanning
