I've been coming back to this song and many others for years now - bookmarks are very useful things. More over, this is one of the songs I listen to while working out, so it gets a fair amount of mileage.
I'm going to be a cringe music nerd for a while, while you're not wrong that goths aren't just depressed and dramatic, pong is in line with the industrial rivethead side of alternative subcultures. They are called "cybergoth" in clothing style but they aren't actually the goth subculture. That consists of people who listen to music like Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus, along with deathrock like Christian Death. The "cybergoth" term actually originated from goths getting into industrial music, and then the genres got mixed up with one another despite being very different. There were lots of early crossover bands before these subcultures ever had names, and so they were deemed the same thing by uninformed outside media. Industrial eventually strayed further towards EDM and metal, and goth rock strayed more towards darkwave and dark post-punk. They're incredibly different genres and subcultures now. I like the name rivet head for this style of dress and subculture. I'm in both subcultures, and they've got different feels at shows, and the music is very different, as are the styles, so rivet heads deserve to be recognized as their own special thing rather than being needlessly lumped in with goths.
@@fungustheclown666 Yup. Total music nerd. And I understood everything you said! I grew up trying to play guitar. After Punk Rock's Black Flag, etc. Then, RUSH, Black Sabbath & my Favorite Def Leppard! etc. There was nothing better than rocking guitars with keyboards to fill it in, like Loverboy, etc? I melded into Metal, once I found Venom and Mercyful Fate. It was all over. I just like talented musicians. Since I'm of the original MTV days, Music Videos are what it's all about. BUT, you gotta listen to the song AT LEAST ONCE! before you see the video! (it's a rule for me) It may taint or alter the way the song plays in yer head. Eh? OMG! I'm a Music Nerd! lol
Dear 11 year old me. We watched this video 14 years ago, back when life was so hard, when death seemed inevitable and a dream to escape the pain, you found music and didn't even know about genres of music yet.Just know, we survived, and were getting help, from all the pain, and have diagnosis now, we survived to 25 years old. And hardstyle your favorite genre of music, btw. Love future self.
This was played at the local bar once a night and that one raver went all out on his dance skills. Me and my friends always joined in on his dance while totally fucking it up but it was fun as heck. At some point the raver disappeared and the song wouldn't be played anymore.I miss you misterious raver.
It blows my mind to see how much love this song has gotten. This was one of the FIRST videos I saw on RU-vid! This was SO obscure back then - people thought I was f*@£ing weird for liking it LOL. I'm glad to see I'm no longer alone! 🤣💚
either that or it will force them to adopt a new thing; Side note, im really glad to see others come to these videos solely for comedy purposes as well.. I dont feel like a bad person as much lol
idk how this has 32 million views, was uploaded nearly 15 years ago, and I'm just now seeing it for the first time, but hell yeah get it lets play pong
Hi, I grew up with gothic punk music. The clubs I went played punk/gothic and my looks fit these trends, I always wished to learn how to industrial dance. I really enjoy the music and the esthetics of the industrial trend, iam 55 and decided to learn and started going to this club that plays industrial. I am surrounded by 20s & 30s. I am an obvious amateur: Doesnt stop me from having a blast. Thank you for this great video among others. Love the dancing and music
+heirofaniu I'd love to see a vid of yours showing this? But you'd probably flail around like your having a siezure and say "jk, I was joking so I don't have to actually try" Plus, you don't need drugs for a good time.
@@kmbdbob We are not! We just chase dreams and live like any other human being in a world where misslead communication or certain feelings define what we do.
last month i was in a industrial party in my city, they played this song and EVERY PERSON in the club started dancing. probably we all started to like these stuff after this song and eisenfunk.
Well ladies and gentlemen, I have now seen all that the internet has to offer and no longer require an internet connect, will retire in the mountains somewhere.
At 13 years old, I found these guys and thought they were the coolest. Grew up a bit and found myself "over it" and finding myself "above it" if that makes sense. I'm 24 now and I've been blasting this, T3rr0r3rr0r, S.A.M. All the goodies that I haven't listened to since I was dying my hair black. This shits so fuckin good bro
Thomas Turbando The chick in your profile pic is drooling. Dilated pupils. Looks oblivious of her surroundings. Seem to be blushing. All really strange. She must be dying. *Sips coffee*
Thomas Turbando It fits it in every way , its like they made video while dancing to Haddaway's song. And it even displayed "Pong" on video when Haddaway said "What is right and what is wrong(pong)" :DD
@@heartache5742 This song is a redux of T99 - Too Nice to Be Real It was released in 1989 There is another song from 1989 called C Day by Confetti which also uses the same melody.
The first video game wasn't even Pong. The first one was created after WW2, around 1947, and even Konrad Adenauer, former chancellor of Germany, tested it.
I once witnessed a dance-off between the drugged out bouncer at the local strip club and a horse jockey that was in town for the county fair. It was epic.
Crazy to think in 10 years people will tell their kids about electronic music and call it “classic electronic music” Just like how our elders listened to rock and then went on to tell us about “classic rock” when it gets brought up
@@cherryblossom5373 this stuff never happened in the 80s and the music wasn't like this either (back when real goth existed), neither the fact that people wore that stuff cause they didn't. Real goths wore vintage outfits(something like Peter Murphy or Dave vanian or even Siouxsie Sioux). Whatever you're talking about must've happened in the late 90s or the early 2000s or something.
I don't miss the days when the trend was calling people who dressed up and had fun cringe. I know it still happens, but I feel like more people realize that unironically calling someone "cringe" is the real cringe lol
it's not exactly industrial but it does have a great amount of affiliation in it. it's actually a type of EDM most commonly known up be placed the in cybergoth category. but this here is definitely cybergoth music.
nothing you just said maid any sense... I find it odd how nerds think pony's, Japanese cartoons and now emo arm flailing isnt weird it's like you geeks look for ways to be even more of social rejects for attention
EggHeadUSA What doesn't make sense? The only people who use that word are fags who play Minecraft. And because you have a weak argument, you don't feel offended by me repackaging lt & using lt against you. Who said I'm a nerd? The last thing in the universe I am is a nerd & even then, still no. And why are you grouping me with bronies & weebs? I like one industrial mix & suddenly I'm your enemy. Who gives a fuck? It's catchy, lt samples Pong, lt has a crazy style. These are all cool to me. You've made your point that you don't like lt. Why are you bothering me?
I've always loved cyber goth fashion. Now people incorporate industrial/cyber/goth style into street wear, they call it tech wear, before that they called it health goth. Everything comes full circle.
I knew a dude about 15 years ago who walked around wearing a gas mask as a fashion accessory. He was almost universally mocked for it --- and to be fair, he did look like a twat.
Look closer. He's purposely acting all antsy pantsy to distract you from the fact the other two can't play piano. I heard music... but saw still steady fingers
+god raper serves em right. i was never a fan of the mouse guy. haven't listened to much, but what I did hear reminded me of the noises when the garbage truck outside struggles to lift the over filled dumpster.
Mock these people all you want. But at least they have the guts to do what they love and make music they love. Anyone who makes fun of people because of the way they dress or dance is just a sad excuse of a person. Get over your self and enjoy what other people do for once.
I was too drunk when I came here the first time. This is awesome after all! I was just in the right place at the wrong time before. Once you hear the lyrics it changes everything.
Kudos to the dancers for really nailing this- so fun to see. Really sharp example of what I remember dancing was like back in '94/'95 in the clubs during "industrial night" (sans the super cool outfits). Some of these moves were pretty easy to pick up back in the day, even for someone without much dancing ability. These two dancers are obviously super talented. But it was fun to do a sloppy amateur version and it certainly burned off a lot of calories. Women who could dance well like this always looked so darn sexy. Do not see many people pulling this style off much now.
i had to google for certainty... this does not inspire affection... i was however ripping at the seems when the bearded lady on the right started dancing... affection? maybe not. inflict violent outbursts of laughter? yes
I'm just going to say it here. This song helped inspire me to write a book set in a sci-fi setting with almost this exact aesthetic. Lots of black and green.
I really like what they did with the pong "cube" in the video. the song is awesome and the dancing was great. the overall color/style scheme made me think of the matrix.
Never get tired on this song... I remember that, when it was played at the clubs everywhere, people say... "Woah, can't hear it anymore"... I hear it soo often while doing sports, and it's always pure energy... Want to dance to it again...
