Wow Dr.Spiced Ham you’ve done it again!!! Strangely enough, I too have that same slicer👍 also as an Alton fan, I believe it’s a multitasker , I believe I sliced cucumbers with it once, and that counts. My favorite recipe is yakisoba, which is a popular fried noodle dish in Japan. In my youth the U.S. Navy sent me too Japan too work in a hospital, and learn too drink. Japanese restaurants in the states tend too put chicken or beef in it, that might as well be chow mien, or any other Asian countries entry into the late night noodle fix. In the bars off base, it was always a canned meat substance that spam seams close too but could have been different. I talked a few times which a coworker that the U.S. Air Force sent too a entirely different hospital too work and drink, and we both agreed it may not have been any of the SPAM , Armour Treat, canned meat products available here. The veggies and meat were always cut long and thin , the slicer is great for this , shredded cabbage and carrots are a must for me, some bars would put a slice of fish cake 🍥 but that’s not missed. You can get bottled yakisoba sauce, which is available on Amazon if you don’t have a good Asian market, or look for a good Japanese Tare sauce recipe on line.I like a runny egg on mine, and mushrooms which was traditional
Two decent sized slices fried in butter. With an over easy egg and a slice of American cheese on top. Put on an everything bagel with ketchup. Great breakfast.
Try it the Filipino way with a Spamsilog - fried Spam slices, garlic fried rice (rice fried with soy sauce and minced garlic), and a fried egg on top. Mix soy sauce and vinegar on the side as a condiment.
Spam dip! It's amazing! Shred the spam in a cheese grater, add cream cheese, relish, and a few spices, (onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper). Mix it, and eat it with the big Frito corn chips or ruffled potato chips. :D
EJ, I highly encourage you to try making musubi. It’s essentially sushi made from spam fried in teriyaki sauce, and it’s very popular in Hawaii. I like making it in advance and freezing it for a nice quick breakfast during the week!
You have to cut the SPAM thinner and sear it dark brown so it looks like crisp bacon! I can't eat SPAM that much cause it literally knocks me out with a food coma every time. That way tastes good though.
Had the same reaction the first time I tried it. The stigma is overdone. Although I do make a point to wear a hat and use the self checkout when I buy it.
Spam and Egg breakfast is a thing and its pretty damn good. As is any way Hawaiians cook it imo. Not somthing for everyday but in a pinch or if that what you got, its legit
Fried is the only way SPAM tastes good at all. Something about that little brown crust it develops when you fry it just makes it the best. Eating it any other way is just bland and terrible. Just make sure you use the low sodium SPAM. Oh, and you definitely should have fried those SPAM cubes before adding them to your mac n cheese.
not a fan of Spam but i just LOVE all the luncheon meat from Ma Ling chinese brand kif you find them in an asian or regular grocery store give them a try
Watching you try Spam for the first time was amazingly fun! Our favorite way to eat it is Moco Loco, you gotta give it a try EJ. Gonna go get me one of those slicers!
Want to venture a bit further (and better imo)? Get some Scrapple. Don't recommend reading the ingredients until after eating it (it's probably the same, but they go into more detail). Up here in MA it's usually frozen and kinda tough to find. Rappa Scrapple is what I'd recommend if you can find it. A fried Scrapple egg and cheese sandwich is amazing.
