Gordeeva & Grinkov had a fine skate to win the competition. I can't help but feel that this program was somewhat downgraded from what we were used to seeing from them.
Only one double axel instead of two and for some reason her landing on the jump wasn't perfectly on. Same thing on their last double toes on which it looked like she fell out of a little bit. Maybe they didn't need to push it since it was a shoe in for them to regain their world title or was it a sign of the coming troubles she would have on her individual jumping in the 1990 season?
Hey maybe i'm nitpicking here, but the judges only rewarded them with 5.8s on the technical merit with one pair left to skate. Ekaterina sure looked like she expected higher marks!
