Ekaterina Selezneva - Who wins the Difficulty?

1:11 about this AD specifically. I know I used to count it as transmission without hands / passing through (during a BD), but thinking about it again, the transmission is never clear so I will definitely count it as passing though (without hands / during a BD) 4:55 I meant 360° not 720° here sorry!

Her ball exercise is interesting because she didn't just reuse Kanaeva's 2011 ball music, she worked to also perform the exercise with Kanaeva's style (obviously adapted to the current COP). This is one of the few times i'm not mad at someone for reusing a music.
@lacrimosa3868

Ahh no wonder the music sounded so familiar, I was cracking my head trying to recall whose routine had that music too. Kanaeva's take on it was more refined and elegant, since under the COP at her time she didn't have to stuff as many difficulties as Selezneva had to.

4:17 maybe that releve helps her get one more rotation once she has the balance secured. Staniouta used to do that with her attitude pivot (2015-2016): she'd start with a super low releve and once she had good balance, she'd get higher.
@juliajudgesrg

Alquifran the last rotation wasn’t did exactly on the releve. it was less than 360° for last one, so Clematis counted as a flat foot. also ig all pivot needs to be done on only one foot position.
@saem_rg
@saem_rg 4 года назад
@@alquifran5815 she should display a different handling for the last rotation in relevé to be counted, cause it would be two separate BDs (on flat foot and pivot). She has 4 rotations (3 of which on flat foot) but only at the end (when she raises her foot) she does the tapping, so it's not possible to count the last as done in relevé (because otherwise her previous rotations would be 0.0).

@Kirarissbf

It's only 0.2 because it's a small throw, you can give an AD 3 when the throw is high (at least 2 times the height of the gymnast i think)
@ClematisRGVideos
@ClematisRGVideos 4 года назад
@@Kirarissbf Exactly. The throw is too small. For 0.3 the throw should be a large throw, which is 2 times the height of the gymnast starting from the point the apparatus is released.

Thanks so much for the vid! Btw I have a question that if a gymnast perform a cartwheel or a walkover in a risk does that involve the criteria of change axis?
@ClematisRGVideos
@ClematisRGVideos 4 года назад
It depends on what type of rotation it's combined with. If the gymnast does Cartwheel + Walkover: change of axis criteria ok. Walkover + Roll: no change of axis.
@CeciliaRG
@CeciliaRG 4 года назад
@@ClematisRGVideos Thanks! So walkover itself doesn't change axis?
@ClematisRGVideos
@ClematisRGVideos 4 года назад
@@CeciliaRG Yes, exactly. You'll see sometimes gymnasts doing risks with 2 walkovers, one forward and the other backward. There is solely a change of direction (and this is not a criteria!), no change of axis. So R2 (=0.2 point).
@CeciliaRG
@CeciliaRG 4 года назад
@@ClematisRGVideos Whoa! Then I'm wondering why do gymnasts put so many walkovers in their routine because the only thing I see is doing a walkover will give them the criteria of without vision...
@ClematisRGVideos
@ClematisRGVideos 4 года назад
@@CeciliaRG When put into a risk it can give them "change of axis and/or level" (depending on what rotation done before) combined with "catch during a rotation" and without visual control" which is a total of 0.4 point. Put in an AD it can serve as 2 criteria: rotation / without visual control. You just have to add an apparatus technical element and that's it, you can have 0.2, 0.3 or 0.4. That's why you see so many of them!

Seriously with this gamified code of points, she has so many 0.4 and 0.3 AD's that are not that difficult at all yet she gets to crank the score up because of them qualifying as "without hands" or "during BD" or "on rotation" or "without vision"... what a joke (especially barely any gymnasts actually execute the elements as with any of those added degrees of difficulty). Especially preposterous: the element at 1:22; the couple of elements (throw and catch) at 1:31; from 1:41 to 1:50. It's such a senseless milking of the code with no care for artistry, athleticism or innovation. Consider that all those elements are worth either 0.3 or 0.4, consistently higher than Pobedushkina (or Kuznetsova's) elements, which makes Karpushenko practically a saint for not choreographing the idiot-proof lowest-common-denominator routines for max points that she can imagine. Thinking that a triple illusion throw with a regular one-hand catch would probably be worth a fraction of an endless stream of useless AD elements. Trash code of points.
@twowickie
@twowickie 4 года назад
This CoP does Selezneva no favors. She was very much overlooked pre-2016, but her routines then had so much artistry and she could afford to take the time to do gorgeous BDs and balances. It's a pity, but it's the nature of RG to have good years and bad. Just my 0.02, but the last year of every CoP always seems to bring out the worst in choreography, perhaps because by then coaches have worked out the best way to (as you put it) milk the system.
