In this episode, we visit the BLM Oasis campground in the High Desert - Maupin, Oregon. We made a delicious stir fry on the Trailfire Grill, and topped off the evening with a Mulled Wine crafted cocktail.
We woke up to the beautiful Deschutes River at our doorstep. Jason took a refreshing cold plunge (42 degrees in the Deschutes River)
We scope out other beautiful campsites along the river.

Got to know about the cassette toilet when your way off grid. And it’s small volume
@ekkonesters599
@ekkonesters599 11 месяцев назад
Hello James, well believe it or not, we haven’t run into the issue yet. Came close a couple times. But what we do is limit the amount of water we flush with and that helps out too. If we really ram into an issue we could go with the US Forest Service rule: First, let's talk about priority number one: Ensure that you relocate a minimum of 200 feet away from any water sources, trails, parking areas, and campsite locations. Be conscious not to urinate near delicate alpine flora and soil that might be disturbed by wildlife, including Mountain Goats who are drawn to the salt content in urine. The on number two: Here's a guide on how to responsibly dig a Cathole in the forest: Select the Right Location: Begin by moving at least 200 feet (approximately 70 steps) away from any water sources, trails, parking areas, and campsites. Choose a Suitable Spot: Look for a sunny area with nutrient-rich soil that is clear of roots and large rocks. Sunlight and appropriate soil conditions help facilitate the decomposition process. Dig Your Cathole: Use a trowel, stick, or rock to excavate a hole that measures 4-6 inches in width and 6-8 inches in depth. Complete the Process: Once you have finished, refill the hole with the original soil and conceal it entirely using natural materials. Pack used toilet paper or wipes in a sealed ziplock bag and carry them out with you. If you are using biodegradable toilet paper, you can bury it in the hole. If not, place the used TP in a designated disposal bag for proper disposal.

Hello Judy, thanks for watching our channel and if you subscribed, thank you very much for that as well. 🤩 exciting decision for you on the EKKO. We do love our EKKO. There are more positives than any down sides. Like anything, there is always something that can be improved upon. We’ve done several “mods” but as the EKKO comes stock it’s well equipped. I would definitely recommend locking in a price and delivery as the word out these is inventory can be low and my understanding is the pierces are going up. You’ll love the Truma heating system and Aquago tankless water heater for sure. The beds are crazy comfortable as well and the AWD Ford chassis provided predictability and go confidence. Keep us posted. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. Best wishes and Happy Travels.

Richard, I was just telling one of the other followers of our channel that if you go to the trail fire Grill website, and at checkout, you enter the code EKKO nesters, you’ll receive a 5% discount on your purchase. We do earn a small commission from the sale. I need to disclose that. But our affiliate program is very new. We’ve been using the grill for almost a year and love it. We have talked about how awesome the grill is long before we received a commission. So our love for the grill 4 in 1 portable outdoor cooker/heater was long before we were commissioned. I hope you find yourself purchasing one, and sharing your cooking adventures and stories. The owner is a top-notch guy, he’s passionate about what he does, and if you ever get a chance to see him at one of the Vanexpo, shows, etc. I think you’ll agree. This guy‘s got a product here that is unmatched.

@@ekkonesters599 sooooo, looks like you had to run it off a tank and not the Ekko’s quick connect? @@johnlaurin7022 John, would you mind me asking? Michelle and I have some fly fishing gear, descent items purchased at Cabela's. Michelle and I have attempted in the past to learn the casting techniques if you will, but wouldn't say we qualify for a "badge" lol. We would love to find a way to learn and eventually hook a fish. Could you recommend a place or someone to contact for lessons? Thanks for considering a suggestion. @@ekkonesters599 Jason: I know east portland has casting ponds and you may want to check it out. I am sure others there will provide pointers. I would also check at local fly fishing shops for suggestions. They often have classes. Another approach is to check out youtube videos for basic guidance. I remember that I practiced casting in an open field with a simple target. You don't need water to practice your cast. Another option would be to come down to Tillamook. I live on the Wilson River and can show you pointers and provide private river access. Right now steelhead are in the river and being caught. In August and September, there is a cutthroat run in the Wilson that is a lot of fun to target. Maybe a phone conversation would be the next step. Let me know.

I'm kind of confused...I've never had to pay to stay on BLM land. But it's hilarious that the sign says "no smoking" and you're pulling in with a Ford lmmfao. I've only known Ford's as potential rolling bonfires. I've known two people, including my daughter, who almost died in a Ford (and one was an RV) when they suddenly caught fire and they barely got out with their lives. My own Ford caught fire back in '78. I've never, ever got into a Ford since. So to me, that's hilarious as all get out.
@ekkonesters599
@ekkonesters599 Год назад
Oh wow, your Ford story is scary, but it’s nice to hear everyone was OK and survived. I’ve had a mix of vans and trucks in past. Ranging from Dodge, Ford, and Mercedes. Of all the vehicles, I have not had any similar experiences or situation. It would be interesting to know if it was the Ford engine or some other RV manufactured issue that resulted in the fires. But, anything is possible when it comes to automobiles. I do have some faith in the newer models and technology. We have been very happy with this Ford Transit so far, and have logged 20,000 miles in 11 months. This is just being part time users and trying to experience every and all opportunities to get out and explore. Yes, the BLM sign was pretty interesting, no where to pay, yet fees posted. Take care and happy travels.
