I've seen a million LS videos. This small block stuff and the comparisons of before and after, actually seeing the gains, is super entertaining to watch.
I love these builds! I grew up v8 swapping s10's with my grandfather one was a decently built 305 (dart iron eagle head's, Howard's cam, +.040 over 10.5-1 pistons, eagle rods, and a edlebrock Victor jr intake with a holley 650 carb thing was pretty stout made 370-400whp which was more than enough for those little trucks lol
Would be sick with a set of factory 2.02 double hump heads and some hand porting only issue is those iron heads take a TON effort to port they don't grind down like a aluminum head lol
Man this is great work and info for the people that want an idea to start a project car. An average car going fast on simple mods that are healthy on the engine. With a relatable low budget for the average Joe to make his vehicle fast and fun. Making a regular car into a head turner. Great job man 👍!
So you are aware that 305 will happily take a 125hp wet shot through a plate kit forever. Had a buddy who tried to "durability test" a 305 with nitrous. He put over 100 10lb bottles through it before he did his motor swap. I ran a 125hp plate kit on my 350 for 5 years. I have 211 nitrous timeslips and never a problem at all related to nitrous except when a ziptie let go and the feed line got melted and leaked. Sbcs love spray up to a point and 125 seems to be a pretty safe number. Hell i even stacked a second kit on so 2x 125hp wet plates and pulled another 3 degrees of timing to put a hurtin on a dudes turbo awd talon and it was great. Plugs always looked good and never smoked.
this is the first video I've seen of yours. it was definitely fun to watch and I'm going to check out the rest of the series. after seeing this and the KBR channels 305 upgrade series. I'm starting to change my plans. I have a big block ready for my elco, but upgrading the 305 is looking tempting. I have some 305 vortec heads I could put on it. I agree. I think your 214° at .050 cam is about perfect. I've been back and forth on a 207°, 210°, and a 215° cam. I don't want to lose too much low end, with the 2.41 gears I gave, but I also don't want to give up the horsepower either. what to do what to do.
For future mods it would be cool to see the work being done , I know you might think it’s boring but it would be nice to have tips and such when doing these mods
The one thing that chevy couldn't figure out back then was keeping the engine oiled when reved up high. With a better oil pump, pan, and maybe a cooler it should hold togeither better.
Jackie boy!!!! 1st off Happy Turkey day my man 2and $1500 to cut time in half damn!!! That cam and intake that's a budget build for sure!! Love the G body build I had a 86 Monte Carlo SS in 99 when I graduated HS it was a 350ci and parts were hella cheap too!!!
coming Jack in two weeks there will be a shift kit in the trans, it's still running after that you'll pull the engine saying you want to keep it if you ever sell it. Then it will be a ride from there
hey jack, i am currently trying to build my stock el camino with a 305 too and I wanted to ask you if you could make a list of the parts you used for the build so I can follow along.
I'll say it again love this series. I don't know why but I need to see this thing into the 5seconds to 60 with this engine. Is the carb tunable at all? Ignition timing?
Thanks Jack, I am after just what you've done here, I also have an "80's" El Camino (Conquesta) I just want to wake it up ... Also looken for economy how about instead of "the Juice" you do a fuel injection swap Sniper,Fi Tech, ...?
Just live with the ute. It goes pretty good, no need to go ham on it. It will be practical as shit for a daily runaround provideded you arent an eco warrior. I dont think Clark rubber is in the usa, but get some rubber mats to line the tray to save scratching yet still just throw shit in the back, ute style. It will pay for itself.
My first car was a '82 Pontiac Parisienne 305 in 2012, I regret selling it everyday. regret it even more knowing how easy it could have been to make it faster :(
I doubt it, it's carbureted. When it's carbureted you can just slap the mods without tuning it. That's why some people get their vehicles carb sawp. You don't have to deal with the headache of constantly tuning it and regulating the idle every other day. Or have a computer in your car.
Maybe a Msd Distributor? Do a fact or myth if the revs really are snappier and does the rpm really change even if its the slightest bit? Ive always been curious. Ive ran the wires but never the distributor
Set of used 305 vortec heads from a 1996-1999 305 pick up or van. DO NOT USE 350 heads on the 305!! You will need a different intake to match the heads, being we arent trying to waist monies on this i thinkvits true if you could find those and do a port job on them youd probably see some gains for cheap
305 most bullet proof engine chev made ,it's all that's powers the big old caprices and priesannes that are popular here in East coast Canada, they love the abuse.
Iv been watching this hopping you wouldn't go ball's out HP mode and ruing the character of this car,,,,, my love for el caminos goes back to 2007 when I was living near San Francisco, I found myself driving down El Camino highway listening to Troy Dodds " try my love ' on El Camino records ( I collect old 60s soul music too ) and ended up behind a El Camino for the 1st time , if you LS swap this you will lose all my respect lol, buy a toy one and mod that if you must lol
