Justin Scrafield both live action films considerably were visually delightful and whimsical tryouts/experiments for bringing dr Seuss worlds to the big screen with outstanding makeup effects and still following faithfully to the general structure/plot of the book, but hands down, this one was the best one they experimented
Exactly. I didn't know who played The Grinch until I googled it and was shocked to find out it was Jim Carrey. He did an amazing job playing The Grinch, and the makeup, wow, it's amazing. Love the movie, one of my favorites, for sure ❤
A Christmas Story? The first 2 Home Alone movies? Elf? Miracle on 34th Street? It's a Wonderful Life? The Polar Express? Die Hard? The Santa Clause movies? Gremlins? National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation?
For anyone that didn't know Jim had to be trained by a guy that teaches CIA operatives how to withstand torture becoz the make up and prosthetics where just that torture, Thankyou Jim for doing so and giving us a great movie
I did not care for the movie when I first saw it. I guess i was a little annoyed they made a movie out of an old Christmas classic. but I gave it another try, and another etc. Now it is one of my favorite movies ever. I really love it.
@@libsybum3591 Good effort, but actually that was for the Grinch. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kXAv8RXmsrc.html 4 years ago By Emma Daly The Grinch's defining characteristic is grumpiness - and it turns out playing the furry, Christmas-hating recluse didn’t have a very positive effect on Jim Carrey's mood either. The actor has revealed he needed torture endurance training to survive the "horrendous" filming. The makeup took eight and a half hours. It was like being buried alive each day. On the first day I went back to my trailer, put my leg through the wall and told director Ron Howard I couldn’t do the movie,” Carrey tells Graham Norton on his BBC1 chat show tonight. “So a guy that trained CIA operatives how to endure torture was brought in,” he continues. “That’s how I got through it.” CIA training wasn't enough to get him through the shoot, though. Carrey also reveals he relied on the soothing tones of the Bee Gees to help him through the filming process. “The only thing that worked to calm me through the makeup was everything they had ever done. I’ve no idea why, but the Bee Gees just made me happy.” “There’d be no Grinch without them!”
To this day I consider this to be the best make up work done for a single film considering the consistency and continuity nightmare of a job it was for the artist and cast.
Troy Andrew So? Quite honestly? No one could outmatch Boris Karloff's portrayal (in voice over) of "The Grinch." When you have remake after remake after remake being done, what does that tell you???? It tells you that Hollywood (aka "Hollyweird") has no original ideas. None whatsoever! If you have this version of Dr. Suess' classic, then WHY have another one???? Why have "reboots?" That is why Hollywood (aka "Hollyweird") is dying a slow and painful death. That and the exposure of the hypocrisy and corruption within the Entertainment Industry. It's sad. Truly sad.
Rick Baker is an 7-time Oscar and an Emmy-winning makeup artist. He won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Makeup for work on The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, 7 Academy Awards for Best Makeup for his work on An American Werewolf in London, Harry and the Hendersons, Ed Wood, The Nutty Professor, Men in Black, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Wolfman.
As overacting as it might have been, plus all those questionable additions to the story, Jim Carrey was still the best choice for the Grinch. As said numerous times, the man is practically a living cartoon in and of himself. Only someone like that has the kind of energy and skill to make all the makeup seem as if it's not makeup, but real. Few actors have that kind of ability to act through layers upon layers of makeup and make it seem as if their not a human being, but whatever thing their playing as.
What an undertaking to make this movie. From the makeup for all the characters to the costumes to the sets. Just massive. Jim Carrey once said that he felt he was the only one that could play the Grinch. I have to agree.
He really did a tremendous job playing the grinch and to sit in that chair to have himself painted up as the Grinch for that long whew No way could I ever have done that WOW!!!!
One of the most interesting parts of this to me is just how many different ideas they had on how the grinch should look and how many attempts they made to get the perfect one
Did Jim Carey get an award?? He should have gotten the highest award. He was absolutely amazing as the grinch. They couldn't have chose a better person!! The make- up was amazing to. Ron Howard did an awesome job with this movie!!
i still wondering is the grinch not just a who...with a diffrent look....or is he an diffrent species and if sooooo were o were are the other grinches...just really curious. this question always botherd me. any one else too.?:)
Been looking all over for this and it's a feature that I quote often when talking about the overall makeup for the movie and how much Carrey went through to play the role.
I fucking looove this movie the makeup. Jim carey definitely played the character definitely deserves a award for the grinch "i nominate the grinch" cindy lou voice 💕💕
I Love Jim Carrey he is such a funny person he brings joy and laughter to so many people in the World it's such a good thing to do especially to those in the World who are ill, sick, sad that can use a smile i can't stop watching "The Gringe Who Stole Christmas" I've been watching it mostly everyday. pet detective another funny movie Jim Carrey your so amazing, wonderful so hilarious Thank You for the Laughs
Makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji did an interview talking about how his experience during this movie was Psychological torture because Jim Carrey’s attitude was really mean and rude during the whole process, Tsuji had to go see a Shrink after this because it made him have a mental breakdown. Although I don’t think it’s ok to ever be rude to people that are trying to do their job, at the same time I understand how someone can become frustrated after having to put the same makeup on every single day for 92 days straight, I’m getting anxiety just having to think that he had to sit through all that for hours.
That's really sad, he was just doing his job, he's an awesome makeup artist. He didn't deserve to be abused. Imagine trying to do your work and you have to put up with that.
Thank you JIM for going through HELL to bring us this timeless movie and all of you! Jim Baker and Ron Howard....it will be a blessing to have a GRINCH 2 if that's really happening so thanks in advance if it happens!!! Oh! I forgot to thank JAMES HORNER for creating a masterpiece of music score for this beautiful movie MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY MOVIE EVER :)
Seeing Rick in the makeup I swear I thought it was Jim. Like they said, if you applied the makeup to anybody and lined them up you couldn't tell who was who.
I heard that Jim had to spend 9 Hours in the Chair putting the Make Up on (he said he had to be in a Zen like state) and then when filming was done for the Day he had to spend another 2 1/2 Hours getting it off !!!
I should mention Jim Carrey was still acting in Man on the Moon and was imitating Andy Kaufman off-camera as a form of method acting So in this movie, Jim Carrey is Andy Kaufman imitating Jim Carrey playing the Grinch
One of the best Christmas movies that I feel like doesn't get as much appreciate it back then but nowadays I feel like this movie gets a lot of love especially for Jim Carrey's The Grinch he kills it as that character as he brings a lot of energy
