Same, I always thought it was like 5 people. This man makes most other guitarists look boring. His mastery of looper pedals + like every amazing guitar technique imaginable packed in one song.
It's about having to hurt someone innocent to save yourself. An old lover, friend, even a stranger. Afterwards you give yourself a moment to reflect, hard, about what you were forced to do to survive -- your only moment of swerving. Then it's back onto the cold night road.
In the album's context I feel like it has something to do with your own departure or even the departure of someone you love. The latter is heavily implied up until you learn that the whole album was dedicated in the memory of the bassist's mother. It's extremely curious because the first few times I listened to ETE's self-titled it gave off that impression of sort of, losing someone or leaving your old life behind. And there's no lyrics at all, just the musical sensation. The fact that the music alone was able to convey exactly what the musicians were feeling at the time, is mind blowing to me.
Traveling through the dark I found a deer dead on the edge of the Wilson River road. It is usually best to roll them into the canyon: that road is narrow; to swerve might make more dead. By glow of the tail-light I stumbled back of the car and stood by the heap, a doe, a recent killing; she had stiffened already, almost cold. I dragged her off; she was large in the belly. My fingers touching her side brought me the reason- her side was warm; her fawn lay there waiting, alive, still, never to be born. Beside that mountain road I hesitated. The car aimed ahead its lowered parking lights; under the hood purred the steady engine. I stood in the glare of the warm exhaust turning red; around our group I could hear the wilderness listen. I thought hard for us all-my only swerving-, then pushed her over the edge into the river. -William E. Stafford
Duuuude! I've been listening to this song for forever and I thought it was like an electronic music producer or something. I had no idea it was dudes with real, legit talent. Oh my god I love this so much more now.
***** True. Let me rephrase. Skills on actual instruments. Let's be honest, it's easier to get good at producing electronic music than it is to get good at guitar, drums, etc. I do both, so I feel like I have a just little room to talk. I still have major respect for electronic producers, but there's something about seeing people playing their actual instruments that producers just can't match. At least in my opinion.
FelixRosas10 they play actual instruments they are real musicians. they are not some phony skrillex wannabees. anyone can use a computer to make music but it takes a lot more to play real music
+Josh Mehrtens He actually is not a fan of playing the guitar beleive it or not he considers himself a bass player. On their newest album he actually does not play any guitar, only fretless and six string bass. I always thought it was amazing how he pushes the limits of the bass and what it can do
@Trevor Browning I know this is a year old, but have you heard of Armistead Burwell Smith? He writes music on the bass guitar too, is similar to his style, at least in the way of playing chords and junk on bass guitar.
I've seen a lot of El Ten Eleven's videos on here, but this one is by far the best looking. Really fantastic lighting and camera work. And these guys are just the freaking greatest.
Nice. Love the old school Carvin as well. They made some criminally underrated/overlooked guitars for ridiculously low prices back in the day. Not sure why they never caught on.
Incredible. I love that through today's mass of unoriginal and auto tuned(because of lack of talent) music that there are musicians like this out there who are truly artists.
I first saw him do duran duran bass. My friend just sent me this. It all circles back. His robot is on point! If you have watched the duran duran you get it

It is weird to have a favorite Poet no sir no it is not you no longer have to hide your face in shame you have my approbation I laud your steadfast courage for admitting this clandestine information
learning it now, pretty sure its in EABG#BD# if ur super good you can use the bottom three strings for the bass parts and top three for the guitar. the use of an open tuning makes it easier than it seems, but still hard as hell and you need to be good at two hand tapping and it relies a lot on a good body clock
LOST CHATROULETTE CONNECTION. You look like Johnny Depp (eh, a little) I look like the Linus tech guy (sort of).
