Elaine de Kooning , painter, writer and teacher, is known as much for her abstract expressionist works as for her figurative expressionist compositions. From an early age, her mother taught her to draw and she often visited museums. De Kooning studied at Erasmus Hall High School and then at Hunter College in New York where she graduated.
