I never tire of watching and listening to her. She is very astute & extremely talented. She has kept musical theater alive. I love her performances. She is a very eloquent and classy lady, but with that element of sass that keeps one interested. Please don't retire!
I must see this at least 5 times a week. This is just such a treasure. Well, I can see you enjoy real talent, as much as I do. Thanks for all the info.
When will we see "Dame Elaine Paige"?........"The First Lady of Musical Theatre"! Does anyone not see the significance of this voice and talent? Not to mention her longevity?!
While in terms of singing she sang this better in the past( here she sings in a head voice a lot) but somehow I come back every time. I think with age she understands the meaning of this song even more. I think what makes this performance great is the guitar intro and great arrangement. I love the mixing they did as well- lovely reverb on the microphone, a little bit of autotune. And all together it makes it my favorite version.
I just recently ordered a few of this DVD. I never saw this when it first came out. I just got turned on to Elaine Page in the past 6 months. Thanks for the info. I truly enjoy this performance. Absolutely stunning!
Very regal looking lady. I have come to know of her through her duet with Susan Boyle. The two are fabulous. Elaine is fantastic and I really like her current look, better than her previous younger years looks. Sweet! Great voice and theatrical!
Who cares if she's gained weight. She looks fabulous, and her performance and voice are just amazing. Terrific singer/actress. I like how she can sing so theatrically.
Love the red gown and the pixie haircut. She then let it grow as she began to perform in Follies with an upswept style, at least in the U.S. for a change, and again on Broadway. There are very interesting interviews from the Kennedy Center and later from Theater Talk in NYC.
Watch the South Bank show videos about Elaine Paige for the background research for the parts in Evita, Piaf and Sunset Blvd. Excellent You Tube uploads from the 1990's.
OK, cool! She is truly one of the most talented singer/actress ever. I take her above Streisand any day. She is Susan Boyle's idol! She is so theatrical when she sings. I just love her. Thank you for clarifying. Well, as you see, we both thing she is magnificent!
Does anyone know if this 40 year celebration parts 1-8 is on a DVD that can be purchased. Sure would love to have this. This is a treasure! I watch this often, as well as some of the others. Part 8 is really good, too.
It doesn't matter....I was just pointing out her little joke was a bit of a lie. It was cute....but anyone who knows Sunset Boulevard knows that isn't entirely the costume. But people on here go balistic over every little thing. This is one of the most talented women ever to perform.
Who the heck cares if Elaine had gained some weight; she looks awfully good for a woman in her 60's. She, like her hero Bette Midler, loses weight by donning those dancing shoes. Watch her dance the tango on You Tube and for 8 minutes in Follies.
Hi Mary: I don't think Elaine looks like she has gained much weight. And, I would care if she did eithier. What people don't realize, is that she has that beautiful long coat type garb over her clothes from first performances. Later we see her in long gown and also a very stunning dress, in which she looks marvelous. She is such a regal looking lady. I just lover her! Can you believe her age. Phenomenal! She is so young and full of energy.
