The stagger that you were causing was poise damage, its basically the more heavy attacks you do the faster their poise health drops and then they get staggers, then you go in the front, press the light attack and do massive damage in 1 hit.

That was a super clean Margit fight Deion. Your weapon did SO LITTLE DAMAGE compared to other people I've seen get stuck on him but you still went crazy

Someone fought Margit in a magic based class and easily destroyed him just by backing away and just shoot a lot of magic bullets at him. My boi Guts be rolling in his unofficial grave watching that fight. 😭

The staggering hit you are referring to is basically breaking their posture. An enemy has an invisible gauge basically like in Sekiro that resembles their poise. The more you hit them, the lower it gets. Heavy attacks and jumping attacks burn it faster. When it maxes out, they become stunned, opened up for a critical hit

I'm new to Souls games and I trained myself up on Margit. Literally ascended to assassin level by needing to aggressively get in his face as a poorly speced Bandit with a single blood-arms dagger. I went Faith and Dagger (now daggers/sword and faith and will probably pick the bow back up eventually to start combat) so I was weak-sauce at the beginning. I couldn't use any of my incantations because Margit was too quick. So I went full aggro-mode and was literally dueling his AI. I got so good at his patterns that he had to do BS dodges and when I disengaged he would too because I was spanking his scripts slowly but surely. I developed such a rivalry with him that I haven't even progressed the story. I turned around and have been exploring the starting area and it's harder connected areas ever since. My training arc with Margit was so prosperous that I've been in the red area fighting buff monsters and bosses so I'll be more than ready for story mode bosses in the future. This game is crack lmao

I love seeing that gradual progression, memorizing attacks, growing your patience, knowing when to do what, it's suck a satisfying feeling when you're able to completely master a boss and everything clicks and you get in that zone and finally win. I've been playing souls for years and that's what it's all about.

Keep going man! I love that you're planning to use the Tree Sentinel Axe as you progress so I'm hyped to see that day come! Since you need it for the axe, there is a Faith line centered around beastial incantations that you get a connection to through the Round Table. It'll definitely fit your character and you need to kill undead mini-bosses to progress it so that'll definitely fall in line with your boss battle videos as well. If you two hand your weapon your strength stat becomes 1.5x what it is so you only need 20 strength to two hand a 30 strength weapon. And I’m pretty sure charged power attacks and hits in quick succession are how you stagger enemies

Just a few tips to help out. The Iframes in this game are tremendous, especially compared to something like monster hunter. Timing all your rolls to the very last second can help preserve your flasks. Second, youre built different so you pulled it off but there is a lot of bosses in this game, roughly 80, and most of them are optional. I recommend exploring a bit to get a better feel for the game, get better weapons and access to new areas. You'll also find upgrades to get more flasks and increase the healing they give.You certainly can run through but Margit for example is meant to be fought after some exploration and minor bosses so you can get those stats up. Third, upgrade weapons as often as possible. Weapon upgrades will have a more noticeable impact on your damage then stat upgrades early on. Third, try to get the hang of parrying. I believe the shield you started with can parry. The timing is extremely tight but you can completely negate damage when pulled off and get a opening for a riposte or a finisher attack. Works on scrubs and quite a few bosses. Lastly, backtrack to the first church you went to, right after the tree sentinel. Pass time at the grace till night and there will be a lady in a witch hat when you get up. She gives you access to the spirit bell and a set of spirit dogs that can aid you in boss fights and group fights. You can unlock more spirits as you go but they help considerably as you tend to get swarmed more in this game compared to dark souls. Hope this helps and look forward to seeing you play this awesome game more! Also I've seen a few people in the community who act like elitist and think spirits make the game "easy" and kill the experience. These people are tampons. They are a part of the game and the developer himself said that the game is supposed to be more accessible and fun to ALL players, new and old. Watching SeeReax go through this boss felt like a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed witnessing pure analyzing and adapting. He did not allow his failure to get to him. He just took a breather then went back to it.

Breaking an enemy gaurd/stance will leave them open for a critical hit. Its achieved by aggressively attacking which fills a built in "stun meter" of sorts on the enemy. Heavy attacks fill faster from I understand Edit: Oh! The fill gauge decays after sometime when not attacking

Since you were asking, the stagger thing, when you hit the enemy there is a hidden stagger bar that fills a little when you hit an enemy, when you are not hitting the enemy the bar goes down, when the bar fills the enemy will stagger letting you get a visceral attack doing big amounts of copium

To answer your question about why the boss gets randomly stunned, the heavier your weapon the more "poise" damage it will do, if you break his poise he'll enter a stagger animation where you can crit him. So basically whack em hard

A LITTLE HELPFUL TIP is if you go back to the ruin church after beating the horseback Rider there is a witch you can talk to that allows you to summon monster to use during fights any time there is that symbol on the left side of your screen and she gives you three wolves to start with and I feel like that matches your viking gig your going with

I believe someone may have commented this already but--- The reason he randomly gets stunned is because you broke his poise, which isn't displayed for enemies. Think of it like how Sekiro had a second bar for bosses/enemies. You hit them enough times with heavy & jump attacks and eventually you will break the bosses poise more quickly. Though this "also" requires you to play more aggressive as the poise meter will go down if you don't keep your attacks going. This also applies for other things such as Bleed, which requires a more aggressive playstyle. I started as a Samurai and you get the Uchigatana, which as a (45) Bleed Buildup. Depending on the enemy that may take more or less hits (Bosses need more) but they "can" be affected. Let me tell ya; it's very satisfying seeing the boss take 300+ extra damage. Though I have no doubt you'll learn more and more. You clearly were watching for the animations for that fight and you clearly got better and better (Even to the point you didn't even need to heal anymore when you were at 2 flask). You got this!
