My crackpot theory I've had for a while now is that the eclipse is a misunderstood prophecy. Two heavy speculations: 1 godwyn the golden was a lord of sunlight, 2 all people have memory, body, and soul. A remembrance is the lasting memory of demi gods after their soul and body have died. Those who live in death are bodies animated through memory but have no soul. Spirit ashes are souls animated through memory. With this in mind, I think this is what happened. Ranni needed to remove her empyrean fate tied to the golden lineage. Marika wanted a true heir to the golden lineage. But all empyrean born to her are tainted by other fates. Godwyn was the only direct descendent without taint. But he didn't have the fate of an empyrean. Marika, ranni, and godwyn conspired to use destined death to kill 1 part of godwyn and ranni, separate the remaining part, and combine the needed parts to create an empyrean of the golden lineage. So godwyn's soul dies, his body lays unanimated, and his memory is used to create an empyrean. Ranni's body dies, her mind is set free into the doll, and soul/empyrean fate is used to create an empyrean. Thus creating the path for the golden lineage true heir. A combination of sun and moon. Man and woman. The eclipse .But it fails partially. The memory and soul is confused and amnesic. I propose the Melina is the eclipse

We get Morgott's Remembrance even when he's still alive on the ground (albeit not for long), and then there's the matter of whether Rykard is truly alive after his boss fight. Since Morgott can hold a conversation after his fight and Rykard can react to his defeat, those demi-gods might still have their memories. As for Ranni's Empyrean status, she still has that, hence why she can walk the "path of the Empyrean" and wield the Elden Ring.

Hello LH! I have a theory to bring up to you, which I’ve been tossing around in my head for a while. Maybe this is common sense, but I believe that the mechanic of “Remembrances” may relate very closely to the nature of the Crucible with the Erdtree and its predecessor. The reason creatures are able to blend in this melting pot of life through the Crucible is through the power of the Erdtree; that is, the tree stores the lives and “memories” of those buried near it in the form of aspects. The Crucible Knights can pull the different aspects of great beasts from the Erdtree, because of how all life once connected to the tree. The Golden Order Erdtree does a similar thing with its Remembrances, and the player Tarnished can turn those Remembrances into aspects of those bosses. I think the key difference is that the current Erdtree, with its order, cannot allow life to change and blend through it. Because of this, players can only acquire aspects in the form of codified knowledge or a physical item, and cannot, say, grow a muscular Godfrey arm. Okay! I had a hard time putting that down from mind to screen, but there it is! Below is a tl;dr of what my crackpot theory is. Have a great day everyone! All life is connected together by the primordial Erdtree; The tree holds the life and memories of life of all deceased creatures, and so other creatures pull from and blend into those memories through birth or faith.

Is his soul not super dead and forever gone since he got black knifed with a piece of the death rune, and didn't get treecycled? I'd love for Godwyn to make an 11th hour return and give us a lightning smackdown, but idk if he exists anymore outside of his blighty body.

I still feel it’s important to note that Godwyn was given the most sacred Erdtree burial of all… in the direct roots of the actual Erdtree. If we assume that the Land of Shadow’s Shadowtree is directly affected by the Lands Between, then Godwyn’s corruption would definitely have a role to play.

Considering that Miquella, and the rest of the gods, are George RR Martin’s characters (Miyazaki claimed to only have made them monsterous) it would be fitting if Miquella plotted with Ranni to kill Godwyn. But Ranni betrayed him, using the rune of death to kill her flesh while the black knives were half way done with killing Godwyn. A majority of the player base is assuming good things about Miquella when everyone else says to fear him, I might add. As well as the fact that Ranni would be the moon eclipsing Godwyn.

Regarding Elden Ring factions trying to derive power from the sun, I believe your architectural knowledge could lend itself to a uniquely insightful investigation of the "Seat of the Sun" depicted on the Sun Realm Shield. The shield seems to depict a gateway and windows with pointed arches, but thick stone "awnings" shaped like a ^ sign immediately protrude from the very outlines of these passages and flare outward on the ends. I've searched for a design like this in real life architecture and cannot find anything, so I'm curious if you've ever encountered any architecture like this. Also, from what I can assess, such a design seems like it'd be structurally unsound and would fall off the gateway and windows, possibly breaking additional parts of the walls in the process. If this architectural design can't actually exist, I wonder if these are instead embellished depictions of a portico for the gate and decorative pediments for the windows. If those are indeed porticos and pediments, I wonder if the Sun Realm might still partially exist as an in-game location that has since been taken over, and if its location can be determined. For example, Leyndell features a number of porticos throughout the city, as well as at the gate guarded by the Draconic Tree Sentinel. Leyndell also has a few pediments on its buildings, and the battlements with the Envoys curiously feature slightly triangular pediments above rounded alcoves. There are likewise occasional pointed keystones for arches and alcoves featured on buildings and the statue post supports flanking the central road where the Erdtree Avatar appears. Another curious detail is how the wall shown on the Sun Realm Shield features an elevated walkway with very large windows, possibly reaching the floor, beneath the battlements. Some of the only walls in the Lands Between that prominently feature a similar design are those of Leyndell, albeit with rounded arches and no notable decorations. However, there are windows with pointed arches that run beneath the Divine Bridges. Furthermore, the windows of the Divine Towers (especially the upper windows) feature pointed arches and are recessed within decorative archways. These archways likewise contour to the shape of the pointed arches. The appearance of these windows and their archways might be the closest thing to the protruding stone "awnings" that seem to be depicted on the Sun Realm Shield. Perhaps the Sun Realm may thus be related to the civilization that created the Divine Towers and the various black bridges and flying buttresses throughout the Lands Between. The merlons depicted on the Sun Realm Shield also have a curious design that resembles the decorative points one might see on a crown. The Elden Lord Crown is somewhat similar, though the sides only have a gentle curve upward. The crowns around the necks of the Erdtree Burial Watchdogs appear to be a better fit for the Sun Realm merlons, as are the collar tips worn by one of the characters featured in the DLC trailer. No merlons like this exist on battlements in the Lands Between's present day, but perhaps they were attached to the parapets like those of Stormveil Castle seem to be. A final clue that might help narrow down the Sun Realm's location is the position of the sun itself. For the sun to align with the city's tower, the Seat of the Sun would require a clear view of the east or the west. If the Sun Realm was located on Altus, its view of both the sunrise and the sunset might be obstructed by the Mountaintops of the Giants and Mt. Gelmir respectively. Alternatively, depending on the size of the Erdtree at the time, the "sun" on the shield might have just been a stylized depiction of the Erdtree's glowing canopy, akin to the much more full canopies of the minor Erdtrees in the Lands Between. Your videos on Stormveil and Castle Morne were amazing, so I believe you're the best man on RU-vid for discovering any secrets the Sun Realm might have. The imagery on the shield also reminds me of the "basin" that lacks the proper walls to efficiently retain any Erdtree sap in the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer. The Land of Shadow being hidden might also relate to how the Seat of the Sun is said to be "long faded away," in the shield's item description.

But the big problem is that the Sun seems so tiny and unimportant in the Land Between compare to the Moon(s). If you look at the DLC trailer near the end with Miquella raising his hand towards the Erdtree could that be the true Sun shining through from behind it?

I do think the eclipse will somehow be a factor in why you have to kill Radahn first in order to do the DLC. He seems completely unrelated, until you remember he is holding back the entire cosmos.

Something that comes to mind when speaking of the eclipse is the fact that the moon is an important symbol on the lands between. Not only we hear a lot about the moon from the characters, but there’s literally a giant rune carved on it. Other than that, the sun is the known fountain of life on earth, and yet, we do not see it. I think the imagery of the shadow of the erdtree brings the concept of the eclipse to fruition. The “sun” is replaced by the erdtree on the lands between (and we cannot tell how it works beyond the fog), and the shadow of the erdtree splash art depicts the erdtree lacking its glow, just as the moon does to the sun in a solar eclipse. Maybe Miquela found a way to “replace” the eclipse and give Godwyn a true death?

I think the effects of the eclipse are alluded by the icons of the frenzy and the sleep ailment. The former is an open eye and the latter is the same eye but closed. On a global scale I think that whatever will cover the sun will be analogous to an eyelid covering an eye. And in this case I think the sun is the gaze of the Greater Will. The Greater Will, according to Hyetta's dialogue is responsible for all the curses. So hiding the Lands Between from the gaze of the Greater Will might perhaps allow Miquella to rid it of all the curses that run rampart. Similarly the player also needs to be hidden inside the eye of storm in Farum Azula to use Miquella's needle and tame the frenzied flame.
@nightscout9979
@nightscout9979 5 месяцев назад
Hyetta also thinks that things like souls themselves are bad, so the Greater Will might not be actively or even passively cursing the Lands Between. The Greater Will also seems to not be currently observing the Lands Between, considering that the narrator says the Greater Will has abandoned the Lands Between and the Two Fingers will take ages just to send it one message.

@@nightscout9979 That Enia dialogue says the Two Fingers are having a debate, not that the Greater Will is unresponsive to them "they are busy >>consulting
@nightscout9979
@nightscout9979 5 месяцев назад
@@Demokaze Enia later says that the Two Fingers are dormant while in that state, meaning that they've yet to even begin any valuable communication. The Two Fingers claim the Greater Will hasn't abandoned the Lands Between, but the Two Fingers is clearly attributing things to the Greater Will without confirming them, because it's actually Marika who engineered the Tarnished plan and who directs the guidance of Grace. We even have reason to believe that the Two Fingers lied about a previous communication with the Greater Will: The Two Fingers says the Greater Will is pleased upon the player character getting two Great Runes, but that conversation couldn't have happened if the Two Fingers' communications take thousands of moons to either get a response or resolve. After Hyetta conveys the message from the Three Fingers, she states similar views in her own words. Both the Three Fingers and Hyetta believe in destroying the universe, and the Frenzied Flame is still hypocritical since it exclusively inflicts torment on people.
