Elderly Couple Missed Cruise Ship, "OBSTRUCTED" Balcony Drama, Cruise Line Tests Biofuel 

Was that balcony obstructed?

Abby needs to get a life and be thankful she can afford to go on a cruise. I spent 31 days in an inside cabin and used the tv for my outside view and was happy and grateful.

On our first cruise in 2004, the captain came on the PA just before we docked in Nassau and stated that we would be able to disembark within the hour. THEN he reiterated the cruise line policy of leaving on time and state EMPHATICALLY that you would be left behind if you were not on the ship at the published time for all aboard. As we pulled away from the dock that afternoon, my husband and I saw about 10 “pier runners” frantically charging down the pier. They were left behind. It ABSOLUTELY made an impression on us and we have never even come close to being late getting back after 32 cruises.

That’s not an obstructed view, that’s a balcony rail. The couple wasn’t “left behind”. They were late. As experienced cruisers, they knew better.

That lady is nuts! That is not an obstructive balcony! That is magnificent view. If it was a solid balcony without glass, I could understand. But that’s usually explained by your travel agency before you purchase the balcony. And her case, she’s full of it. That is a perfectly great balcony view.

We have stayed in a Jr. Suite and a Cloud 9 Suite. According to this lady, all the Suites have an obstructed view. We were lucky, we got an inside suite with ocean view. The only problem was, we had to know when to keep our curtains closed and leave them open. There was a walking path in front of our room. Beyond the path was the ocean. I guess our obstruction there were the people.

That's the same view the hubby and I had a couple of weeks ago on the Carnival Breeze from our Balcony...and...it was just fine. Abby needs to be smacked with a clue x 4.

I’ve got 2 years before I start my cruising career and I plan on ship sponsored excursions only. I saw a video about a solo cabin that had 99 square feet of space. That’s 9 more feet than the army gave me. 😂

If 1 bit of sauce is intended for 7-9 (or so) nuggets, then you need 2 of them for 10 nuggets. But you only need 3 for 20 nuggets.

I once worked with a guy that used waste cooking oil to fuel his old Mercedes sedan. It worked well and smelled like French fries when you followed him going down the road.

I have cruised in balcony cabins and it would never have occurred to me to consider the balcony railing to be an "obstruction". Would she rather have no railing? She'd probably fall off her balcony and blame the cruise line for not having a railing!

On our Spring Break trip with NCL we waited for NCL to get back left late but otherwise pulled on the minute it was supposed to leave. Person I spoke with GM told me most ports have fines if you don’t leave on time.

Some people just need to get a grip. We paid for a non obstructed balcony and got one but it was under the teens club. It was Fine the music ended by 11pm and we go to bed about 12:30 1am so no big deal. Sometimes we went to take a nap during the afternoon and it was a bit loud but once you fade it out a fall asleep its all good. Who cares your on a beautiful cruise so what you saw the railing Big Deal. I haven't been to McDonald's or the King in over 10 years...i stay away from that stuff since i got to my ideal weight. That was not obstructed. While on the Mardi Gras I had a suite with a roof directly level with my balcony. I could have climbed over the rail and walked on it, but of course that would be trouble for me. My point is I could see out to sea but all was blocked looking down. I will avoid these rooms in the future.

For the first time I have booked a shore excursion not through the cruise ship. It's through Shore Excursions. They guarantee to get you back to the ship on time. Should I be worried??

The math is that for 10 nuggets you don’t need 2 you need 1 plus a bit of the next one! Works that way with prescriptions too🙃 But you really knew that!

Total bs. My first balcony was an "obstructed" one on Carnival Pride by a lifeboat below. I still saw the ocean and enjoyed watching us dock and sail away. I booked the same room on another cruise.

Norway hass sine very stringent environmental regulations for cruise ships in their waters, part if the reason lots of newer ships are LNG fuelled instead of oil. No surpruse HAL are testing this in Norway

Hey Tony, Happy Friday 🎉. Idea for your show! For those that are late and others, you could talk about Wharfinger fees, as a lot of cruisers don't know that a ship pays money to dock everywhere it goes! By the foot and by the minute!

That balcony is absolutely NOT obstructed. Perhaps a cruise in an obstructed balcony may enlighten the cruiser. Love the idea of biofuels. Lanyards are silly in mho. But whatever your like. The ship waits for no one!

You know I think NCL has no leeway. I have been on a Carnival cruise where there were people late and they waited and for everyone to get on board. Same with Royal and Celebrity. I mean its everyone's job to get back on time not making excuses, but I have seen other cruise lines try to make sure everyone is on board NCL is the only one I have seen that is this strict. Goes to show you that you better not be late coming back!

We sure don't do cruises for environmental friendliness. A naturalist on one of my cruises quipped that the mileage was 60 ft per gallon of marine diesel. LNG, while it burns cleaner, is still a fossil fuel whose extraction still does environmental damage. Until solar power, rechargeable batteries, or fuel cells figure out how to power ships regardless of the weather, we'll be polluting away. Or, shrink the ship, raise some sails, and get a bunch of really strong people to manually row the ship to ports as in the olden days.

That rail is there to keep her from dying. Is her view obstructed? Sure, the moment she puts her face directly up against the rail. But at all other times, it is just a railing meant to keep passengers from falling from their balcony suite to their deaths. As for your Gilligan's Island question............... Mary Anne wins hands down; Ginger could never pull off those short shorts, and loose halter tops. Speaking of which, where did they get all of those clothes; aside from Gilligan and the Skipper, the rest of the cast had a huge wardrobe (especially the ladies). But who packs a huge wardrobe for a three hour tour? Particularly back in the 60's? If anyone should have had a change of clothes, it should have been Gilligan and the Skipper as they likely lived on board the Minnow some of the time. Yet Gilligan always wore the red polo, and the Skipper the blue polo. A show that you really had to suspend reality. Think about it, they actually built a makeshift bamboo car that Fred Flintstones would have been envious of as it was peddle powered. Why did the professor not only get his own cabin, but a full fledged, jungle laboratory? As a chemist, I have never taken a lab along on vacation, well .........ever. 😏. BTW, I have to say, your cruising channel has quickly become my favorite, but Emma is pretty close behind (she's quite charming to).

The couple that got left behind - Golden Rule of Cruising, Book Excursions through the Ship so if the Excursion is late, the ship waits !!!! No Sympathy.. They have been cruising for 30yrs and know the rules. PLUS- Read the T&C for each Cruise line as it states that if you miss a port you have to get the next one at your own costs etc..

I would not consider the view obstructed.
