I have never watched the show, Storage Wars, but I happened upon this video, which is probably a good representation of that show. I understand that the people who had the storage units have lost them for whatever reason and the units must be emptied to be rented once more, but while watching this I was just incredibly saddened that this woman's things were just cast aside for just monetary value. Im sorry, but this was this woman's life or at least a portion of it and should be held with some respect!

That toy doctor kit, Sucrets tin and Prang watercolor box threw me right back to childhood! I know people are saying how ridiculous it is that people leave all this stuff behind, and I get it, but at the same time if there weren't people out there who squirrel things away for decades there would be far fewer antiques and vintage items out there. They've preserved a tiny piece of history for future generations to appreciate and love.
@mommabodsalwaysright4509
@mommabodsalwaysright4509 2 года назад
The sad part about much of that .. is the younger generations right now want everything “new”.. they do not value antiques or things that were made to last!! You need to make a point of indicating the value of items so the next generation doesn’t throw it out just because “its old”!! A family member of ours wrote notes and stuck them on items she valued… some notes explained how furniture was carried by”ox cart” from Maine to Connecticut to be given to her parents on their wedding day!!! I came across a wooden crate with clothes in it that would have probably been throw away had they not had notes pinned to them indicating they were worn in an 1835 wedding!!! I never would have guessed they were that old because they were in such good shape. But the question is… what to DO with them??? They should be preserved!!! But how or where???

Those things don't look as if they've been in storage very long. I have several boxes belonging to my own grandparents of documents that have have been stored for over 50 years. Many of the items are over 100 years old. Be careful when opening things. Some have been stored in humid environments for a long time. Take it outside and wear a N-95 respirator while going through! Well, an Action #1 comic sold for 10 cents in 1938. Today there are less than 20 copies known to exist. Depending on the condition, one can be worth 1.5 million dollars or so. But if he tore off a home-made covering for one as roughly as he is doing to those items, he would have destroyed half its worth.

There were some good finds (Spode). Part of me wonders why they were being stored instead of being used? My grandmother had a Beautiful set of China gifted to her. She used it only on Holidays when I was growing up. I took it after she passed away & we use it 2 - 3X per week. I feel items like that should be used/enjoyed, not tucked away & used only on certain days. Who/what's more special than you & your immediate family? Anyway, just my opinion🙂.

This video was extremely disturbing to me. I paid on a storage unit for 17 years and fell behind a few months when my mother passed away. Unbeknownst to me, the storage unit, located in Missouri, must have done something similar to what you got. I had moved to Texas to live with my mother after my grandmother passed. My unit had all the china from my grandmother, all my sterling silver, my vinyl albums, my books, letters from my favorite grandmother, rugs, tiffany lamp, antiques, books, linens, my life's photos and concert albums, everything that meant something to me that I hadn't sold or given away when I left CA. As hard as I tried I got no resolution from the storage company (they never notified me of what they were going to do). I found out one day when I saw a package on my front step that contained a quilt my great-grandmother had made and my wedding album stuffed inside (I'm divorced now) and a brief note saying that I might want the items. I will always carry a wound in my heart from losing my life's possessions in such a treacherous and malicious way.

@@bobcaygeon6799 I so appreciate the sympathy. I realized that I had paid them over $25,000 in rent over the years and the least they could have done is called me or sent me a letter stating their intentions since I was about 3 months behind on my rent. They didn't send me a copy of my lease agreement (mine was in storage) or return my calls. The pain of losing what I had left from my life has lessened over the years and I always tell myself their karma will be a bitch, but it still hurts my soul. Thanks for your kindness. Best wishes.

I feel for the lady, my mother just passed in April- and I've got so much stuff to go through It's overwhelming sometimes. Makes one think of just letting everything go. And sad all at the same time, to think that so much of it will just go to waste! It's astounding how much can be accumulated over a 67 yr span of an entire family in one home! !

@@sherribell4032 ALL the memories I have are with me, the rest I really have no care for as it wasn't mine to begin with so to speak. The mortgage co is finally taking the house and the saddest part of it all is I have to put down her three fur babies.😞 I tried for the last six month's to get them adopted or sheltered but to no avail. After that I can finally heal. It's been a long hard road but it's almost over now, thank you for the kind word's and may God Bless you and keep you safe!

Gotten stuff at auctions that made me feel all kind of sentimental and made me hang on to a piece here and there due to it made me feel for the person like they must have loved this so maybe I better keep it that kind of thing it was hard sometimes

🌸 I got quite perturbed at a lot of the comments I read here. First of all, I didn't think you were "rough" with the items. For whatever reason the stuff was put in a storage unit and then the rent, over time, was not paid. Rob has a business - buying storage units, going through boxes and boxes (some riddled with mouse 💩), sometimes finding treasures and sometimes not. It's a JOB! He auctions off what he can and that is his living. It isn't his fault that the family doesn't have these treasures. IF there was a family left - SHAME ON THEM!!! Rob shows compassion, in my eyes, but still, he has absolutely no connection/sentimental value to these things as I do with the many items that belonged to my mom and dad. The depression generation bought stuff, stored stuff, and cherished stuff and hoped (counted on) their children treasuring all their stuff one day. Those children grow up, get married, have kids and houses full of their own stuff. Then mom and dad are gone (be it physically or mentally) and those houses have to be emptied. It's mind boggling that Rob gets the blame for not "treasuring" someone else's family treasures as a family member should. Thanks for showing what you do, Rob!

The instruction label on the lid of the cooler is what is going to make it worth more. The plates as a full collection would be very valuable too. Have to get it up in front of collectors. The Dinkies car boxes are worth a fortune!! Don’t tear the boxes!!! Some of the Dinkies cars with boxes are worth $500!! EACH! They are super collectible.

Yea, I noticed him damaging the box while trying to open it impatiently. That could be a difference from $500 to like $50 ... Then shoving it back into the box making micro scratches makes it into a cool $5

Pine-cones are very popular for crafting these days. Worth money if you have enough. Or spray them with different coloured glitter & tie them in bunches with ribbon & sell them as christmas decor.

So sorry. Same here. My gold "Date to Remember" charms from the 60's, several 18-20" gold chains, a solid gold large Panda bear coin with fancy bezel & heavy gold earrings besides sterling rings and chains. My college son's old Star War, Star Trek, Black Hole, collectibles were taken too. He was a great nephew from a broken home who lived out of state who stayed over and had a large back back with him, was only 13. Entitled little bastard. The chief of police said I couldnt do anything because age and lived out of state.

The perfume and empty boxes probably are empty because her collection may have been in her home when she passed away. Those are usually sold through diffetent agencies. You should find out what happened to the stuff in her house,and I bet that you could match up what goes in the boxes. My mother had a collection ofperfume bottles and carryalls from the 20s and the 30s., She kept the empty boxes in the shed out in the back yard, she did not have room for all of them in the house. We still have the collection and we have been trying to find a home for all of it but she collected for years so there is a lot of it.
