Question, how would anyone know if that syringe plunger was down because it had already been injected into another person? Contaminated needle might be another concern
If someone is trying to save lives they wouldn't use the same needle on another person. They would just empty the syringe before the injection or just use an empty syringe.
I worked in a hospital in the Air Force 4 years there's no way the trained nurse or anybody that's given even ten shots would not realize the plunger didn't move.
I think you are right. The used needle was re-capped and not disposed of and the poor women got injected with a dirty needle. The clinician should have checked before sticking that needle in. Stupid person.

Yes people ....if you got injected with an empty syringe it is a blessing...that is God protecting you from a really bad decision...and if you get the vaccine and had no reaction you might have received saline and again be thankful God protected you.

Just another example that our healthcare system is broken. Their goals is to get as many patients in and out of the door to maximize their profit. You can see this in every aspect of healthcare. Apparently, there was no second check performed of the syringe as that would incur a higher cost. At least the nurse "fessed up" and reported the incident but she should have confirmed the dose prior to injection. Hopefully it wasn't pre-used.

Even an empty syringes with a retractable needle will still depress when you press the plunger. The extra pressure causes the needle to retract into the barrel. So when you press the plunger on a retracting syringe (that's what she's using) it will still depress. Also, that syringe wasn't completely depressed. They come out of the box with the plunger at about the 1cc mark. It looks to me like that is what she injected.

She used a USED syringe. That’s why there are empty syringes. Grandma needs to be tested for EVERYTHING. There is a STRONG possibility it was empty because it was used.
Worst case scenario : syringe may have been previously used. Another: Shooting air into a person could kill them. That is why, normally, they hold syringe up and push out air before piercing the skin.

There is no way the "injector" would unknowingly inject with an empty syringe! Nurses are strenuously trained not to inject with contaminated syringes or needles, nor with any air in the syringe! This cannot be mistake!
The injector probably jee right away away the syringe didn't didn't down, but rather rather say anything to the patient and her granddaughter she thanked them, walked away and then told a coworker or superior who said OMG, we need to call that woman! And then they called. But I'm just speculating, who really knows!
Honestly, it was probably a used syringe. My guess is the hospital would never admit to that as they don’t want to pay out the insurance money as a lot of them our self insured. I worked in a hospital and let me be the first to say hospitals try to cover shit up all the time and the staff is pressured to do the same so they don’t lose their licenses. Usually the only time they get caught is when someone dies after an operation or after going to a hospital and getting a misdiagnosis and then dying afterwards. Which happens ALL the time.
If you knew. Truth is even worse. Pt.s with lower survivability in ER are loaned to resifents and students to hone their skills on live humans. Resident had a shot at establishing femoral access on a PT because they figured he was gonna die anyways. He was having an aoritic aneurism and they didn't assess in time even though he was vomiting blood. It's common practice to move Pt.s from one hospital to another so they don't have to record a death in their ER and even move from on floor to another to avoid that. Hospitals in the usa are garbage.
It's not an isolated case. Check the net. And it's not conspiracy either. All caught on video. Why would she even go back? The fact that the syringe was down and all the nurse did was inject the needle in and out would be enough to know it wasn't a mistake.

Retractable syringes are made for Dope users that's why they break ro keep others from using the same needles they also blunt the tips on them. I work in a tier 1 Hospital in California weve had to deal with abscess caused by the breakable not pretty.

I would check and see if there is any residue of covid-19 vaccine in the syringe to see if it was full at one point . And maybe someone had used the syringe and put it back with the filled ones

Not necessarily. New ones comes down until you prefilled it. Either it was preused on another patient or it was a new one, which wasn't prefilled with the vaccine.

I had the same thing happen to be at basic training in 2015. You get like 10 shots when you arrive a few days before your training starts. The lady stuck the needle in me and then said oops that ones already empty then grabbed another and gave me the shot. The thing is, there’s only 1 reason she would have an empty syringe in her hand, because she stuck it in the last guys arm.

As the syringe needs to be filled from a sterile, sealed vial, it is possible to resell the unpunctured vial. Is it possible that people might do this? Oh, surely not. Humans would never do such a thing.
There are countless videos of other countries tries having the same thing happen with older patients as well. The person injecting would have known before injecting. They noticed a photo was taken so wanted to cover their basis if that came back. Other issue was it was used on someone else and infected with who knows what.
