With the title Birnam Wood, many readers will detect the influence of Shakespeare on Eleanor Catton's new novel - but how about Jane Austen's Emma? The Booker Prize-winner shares the varied influences that shaped her literary thriller about guerrilla gardening, 'prepper' billionaires and human survival.

WoW ..I read the book without knowing a single thing about the author. It’s fascinating to hear her thinking as it totally comes across in the writing. It was a fascinating read.

I had the chance to chat for a few minutes with Mrs Catton when she came to Brazil to take part in FLIP. It was great.

I had the privilege to meet Eleanor in JLF 2014 and she was tremendously nice to me. The Luminaries is very close to my heart and I thanked her for having written it. Birnam Wood marks her prowess as an extraordinary writer. Its a true Catton-ian book!

She is a genius. The EMMA adaptation is, for my money, one of the best of all time, and this was my favorite book I read last year, by far. I can't wait to read everything else she's written.

I read the book today. I definitely needed to see this interview because it was the weirdest "literary thriller" I've read. If literary thriller is what this book is. Starts off like Middlemarch and ends like Mist. Good God.

I have a tabby like Eleanor's and a black/white Manx. Have you read "The Lensmen" by e. e. DOC Smith. Sci fi from a good many years ago. There's a planet with humanoid beings who are feline... Ok, have fun reading/writing, and blessings...
