I work at Renaissance Fairs as an artisan...I have dark hair like yours and I adored this video amd would LOVE to see you do Anne Boleyn! Thank you for all the inspiration with all of your tutorials!
Early 12th century French fashion is my favorite of all time! When I had long hair I actually used to wrap it like this. I agree that it's absolutely gorgeous and more people should give it a try!
Beautiful tutorial here! Eleanor of Aquitaine is one of my favorite medieval women! Just to add the interesting thing about her appearance. Even though we have virtually no reliable descriptions of what she would look like, historians suspects that she was most likely red-headed since her father, brothers, and sons were all described as such.
@@Hevynly1 I love history, and would love to find out how my family might figure into it! I know a little about it, thanks to my Great Aunt who painstakingly looked up alot of our genealogy. Unfortunately, she passed awhile back, but I would especially like to know our genetic information!!✝️⚜️
Yay! Thanks for listening to us! Love love love this. I am a Medieval Historian and I feel sad by the fact that the Middle Ages tend to be overlooked by vintage beauty vloggers, it was simpler regarding makeup, yes, but that doesn't mean it was boring. There's much more to the Middle Ages than it meets the eye. Eleanor was a fierce and brave woman who definitely deserved to be a Beauty Beacon!
Ahh yes, I'd love to do more medieval tutorials myself (my own academic background is in medieval languages & literature) but there is so little reliable material to go off :( I do definitely plan to dig deeper though and hopefully come up with more!
@@Loepsie It's very hard. Basically, one could say we have near to zero information on how they actually looked like :( for my Master's thesis, for example, I'm relying on Archaeology to discern a little bit better how norse women were. But from that point on it's all up to imagination and checking various written historical sources, which were barely mentioning women to begin with, and even less their physical appearance. I'll be looking forward for the next ones :)
I've been wearing my hair like this for a few years now, at first I got teased for it at school but eventually people stopped caring. I still love this hairstyle even after these years!
As a lover of history, makeup and beauty, I absolutely love this series. Thank you so much for doing these; I'm sure they are a ton of work! If you ever need a research assistant, I'll happily volunteer! Thank you💖💜
So cute. We could easily use those headbands that are popular right now in place of the crown. Maybe even the scarf if tied rather than hanging loose. But a loose scarf would be damned useful during the hot summer and sun. Thanks for doing this Lady!
This is one of my favourite BB episodes! The effort you put in to researching this one really shows, you did a great job telling Eleanor's story and I loved the reference to Rosamund ❤
Could you do Helen of Troy for beauty beacons of fiction!? Or Kahlan Amnell from Legend of the Seeker, that medieval/renaissance era fantasy super low budget syfy channel show that somehow made it big in 2008
dude. im gonna wear it like this for everyday living. imma live my best life. thanks for your amazing channel! will tag you on insta each and everytime i wear it.
I love Beauty Beacons!! I have a request, maybe one day you can do Raquel Welch ☺️ specifically her 60’s era tutorial because she was most famous then. Thank you!
I love Eleanor--she's one of my favorite historical figures! (And I am all for bringing back the ribbons twisted into the hair. I would wear that in a heartbeat.)
You're literally everything in a channel that I want to see!!! So glad to have subscribed! & You are so beautiful, humorous and so intelligent. I enjoy your videos :)
You are an absolute darling! I love your devotion to the details, the history you share and the wild efforts to which you go to complete these. Thanks for all that you do and share, I look forward to your content! As a former hair dresser I really appreciate the brutal elements of these tutorials. Sore arms, angry and mildly damaged hair, not too mention the research and time. Loads of effort! Thanks again, you Rock!
I've also really enjoyed the links to the old hair dressing books! How amazing. I was so surprised that none of that had been part of my 1500 hours of cosmetology training and theory!
Love this!! Eleanor has been my favourite heroine since I read E.L. Konigsberg's "A Proud Taste for Scarlet and Miniver" when I was 10, back in the 70s, shortly after it came out 😃 Much later, I read Alison Weir's 1999 biography of Eleanor (among others), which I can highly recommend. More recently, Alison Weir has begun a whole series on English queens and the first volume also covers Eleanor (Queens of the Conquest); mediaeval queens were quite something!! 👍👸🏻👑
Girl, you do an amazing job. I enjoy your channel greatly. You are the first channel that I actually chose to subscribe to. Keep doing what you are doing.
Yay, love it when you do medieval themes! By the way, do you have any recommendations of books/shows/resources for people interested in medieval history? :)
Completely fictional of course... but the bbc tv series of Robin Hood is brilliant! Costumes not entirely accurate, but better than some Robin Hood adaptations I've seen. Plus, Richard Armitage in leather and guyliner is a win win situation XD
It really depends on what region you want to read up on. I have a plethora of books on mediaeval France, and publications from respected academic sources like PUF are awesome.
So happy you made an Eleanor of Aquitaine video, she’s one of my favourite people from history 😊 also I actually love the lace circlet, it looks really effective especially with the braids 😄
I learned this hair technique in an SCA manual and proceeded to wear it often, sometimes with a circlet, through my teen years. It's really lovely and pretty easy to accomplish.
I learned so much in this video. I hadn't even heard of Eleanor. This era is not one you hear accurate depictions of often (outside of fictionalized versions) so its really interesting to hear what little information we do have
love the video but the auto focus was a bit annoying as it kept blurring and correcting love the creativity of the look using things you had around btw
this is how i realized i mixed up Eleanor of Aquitaine and Eleanor of Arborea (who enacted the first law in the world protecting hawk and falcon nests and has a falcon named after her as a result).
I remember learning about her at our first co op ( I’m homeschooled )! I was so little, but I still remember the song! “Eleanor of Aquitaine, and her son, Richard the lion heart-“ I know the rest of the words, but I I maybe have them mixed up so I’m not writing them lol
So Nobility and Royalty would have worn make up. It existed back then especially rouge and anything that would make their lips red. It would have given the apparence of being healthy. Thus letting people know they were rich. There is a really good youtube series about make up in history. Just thought I would pass that info along.
You can naturally lighten your hair over time with lemon juice and honey, as well as being outside a lot in the sun, especially during summer. Make sure to use sunscreen, of course.
