SuperCruise is currently capable of being upgraded via OTA updates; but GM is being very conservative and decided that they want owners to go to a dealership to be educated on new SuperCruise features. They do push OTA updates of the maps portion of SuperCruise. It does seem odd and overly conservative to not allow the OTA updates for SuperCruise features. One would think that the vehicle could display the details of the new features on the screen, but maybe it doesn't have the capability to do so.
GM knows that the dealers would sue them if they try to bypass them when it comes to any updates to their cars. The dealers want their cut, its how they stay in business with the current manufacturer/dealership model. Its one of the reasons that Tesla has always insisted that the dealership model cannot work for Tesla since they do not want or need a middleman increasing the costs. And its a reason that the dealerships will insist that electric cars (especially Teslas, but even the ones in their own showrooms) are not worth buying and they actively discourage customers from considering them by pushing as much negative information and outright lies about electric vehicles as they can.
According to Jason Ditman, Chief Engineer Cadillac Super Cruise, they are still working on it with the intention of installation on more cars in the GM stable. But they are competing with GMs Cruise group! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RknJ4XQyDlg.html
I was actually mildly impressed until I looked up more info. Must buy $84k+ car AND supercruise is SUBSCRIPTION service so after the 3 included years are up you have to pay every year. Or I can buy a Tesla and spend half that and get an already superior, constantly updating Autopilot with Model 3. Hmmm...decisions, decisions.
That looks way more cumbersome and long winded than Tesla's FSD. Plus, is only available on certain roads? I'll keep with my Tesla thank you, it works on almost all roads and much easier to turn on.
In 3 years, after the lease is up on this car, it will be put up for sale in a market that has many more cars (Teslas) that were built during the same time frame that all have full autonomous driving ability that they will have achieved through OTA updates. Guess which vehicles will be considered a better buy at that point. The used, 3 year old Tesla that can pick your kids up from school while you are at work, or the used Cadillac (or any other currently built car) that won't do much more than what you are seeing here?
Well, it's now been almost 3 years later, and Tesla is no closer to "picking up your kids from school while you're at work" than it was when you posted this.
@@dexagalapagos Really, you think that? Then you haven't been paying attention. Go look at the resale values of these cars now and see which on is considered a better buy, as I said. They are close to FSD today. And every year that goes by, these cars just keep getting better. Unlike this Cadillac that just aged like any other used car.
@@piratecaptainlyra7955 I have two Teslas on order, but no, they're at least 15-20 years away from being able to pick up your kids from school. That's just a pipe dream.
@@dexagalapagos hmmm.... who to believe. Random letter guy on the internet, or Elon Musk. Think I'll go with the guy that keeps proving even the experts wrong, over and over again.
