I have a 13 foot speedboat with a 40hp 4-stroke petrol outboard I use around one of the Greek islands & since I had to be towed in when my steering cable broke recently, I feel a bit vulnerable now when I’m far out & dependent on one source of power & propulsion. Do you reckon this Bison motor would work as a spare backup for emergencies in a moderately choppy sea? (I don’t venture out in heavy seas / large waves.)
@@colscopters Thanks for the feedback! I will put one on my shopping list. They charge anything from 100-300 Euros for recovery assistance here, so this motor could soon pay for itself!
Hey mate, how far does the telescopic control handle extend to approximately please or would I need a telescoping tiller extension if I wanted to stand up on my job boat? Thanks.
If you are on a calm water you would probably get 5 hours plus out of it i have a 68lb thrust on my 18 ft patrol boat I use a 110amp battery that gets me about 4 hours then I switch over to the second battery hope that helps
Nice vid, very helpful. I'm thinking of buying this engine as a spare/auxiliary for a 18' river cruiser. How many hours do you think you'd get out of a full battery charge? Cheers
@@colscopters Fantastic, thanks for your help - i'm a boating novice and i've just bought a river boat, but the engine is very old and making some funny noises! so this Bison should be a good backup and i might even use it regularly as i like the idea of less noise pollution 👍
@@jesperthorsson3586 you ate welcome ive done a few videos on the electric engines also if you decide to just run on electric outboard you get a discount of 25% from the crt check out my other videos on the engines and what they can do thanks for watching 👀
Hi there mine is electric 23 ft viking so far running on 86lb thrust motor n a second one being added soon not so much for more power but with two motors give you options like turning boat on a dime etc so better manoeuvrability etc run of lead carbon battery's that can charge from solar n also fast recharge time n more suited for the purpose I have also removed the head unit and wired it direct to dash into digital speed controller and can steer via boat steering wheel
Thats fantastic also with two motors and two batteries at a low gear you will achieve twice the distance in theory also more agile definitely worth doing 👌
I have a 50ft narrow boat and just bought 2 100lbs 24v bison outboards.. Looking at them im thinking I may only need one for canal use ..all this is very exciting ! Just trying to get my head around battery power options
Hi, i have the same trolling engine 68lb looking for a good battery, I’ve been told anything above 55lb is 24v are you using 12v and if so how long would I roughly get out of 110ah agm or the battery you are using ? Thanks
@@colscopters I ordered the motor this morning, next on this list will be a battery. 10 months on and how's the Super Batt holding up? Some go for LiFePO4 lithium batteries but they are so expensive.
Fantastic best batteries to use are the super bat calcium and buy a smart charger they are about 15 pounds on ebay you can get the batteries from ebay also you are going to have a lot of fun this summer
@@colscopters Does that include the River Tees near me? Goes inland for miles and miles and miles. And how can I tell if slipways are private or not? Thanks mate.
Hello yes I have I hope this helps you thanks for watching www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134435377777?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ertlkj59tss&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=TwHGtpTvTEi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Man of my own thoughts..electric... Leave the alternator but add a generator to charge the batteries as you use the energy. Between the generator, solar panels, and wind mill, you're set for the battery life. You need add the auto off gizmo so you don't over charge. If my theory is correct, you'll never need to plug in to recharge. Then new body work and old cabin n3d to be pretty much air tight..
Calcium Technology There is a great deal of mis-information associated with Calcium Technology, to put the record straight the technique is used in most, if not all, modern battery production. The technology is based upon strengthening the lead plates with Calcium and other materials to make them stronger. They do not require different charging voltages and should always be treated as standard lead acid batteries. This is not a “Calcium” battery so do not use the AGM mode. It is just a standard lead acid “Car / Truck”battery. Probably just better than your old one because it is new.
