Yeah, but the 2 days plugged into your drier outlet for a few hours on the water is a big negative. And with that much battery in the hull, it is *not* going to be cheap. DC fast charging could be a few hours, but I'm not aware of *any* charging (DC or otherwise) built for anything being towed. Even a car with a travel trailer has to ditch the trailer.
@yournumberonepal

It'd be nice to connect this as V2H so that it is providing some utility while not on the water and if you are able to store it at home.
@andyeighttre
@andyeighttre День назад
If you have to tow it home with a gas guzzling truck, that negates the advantage. Especially when comparing it to leaving a gas boat you can leave at your slip and fill at the marina. The other funny point the CEO made was breathing in the exhaust. Surf exhaust has been around forever. You can also buy a new Sanger that throws a better wake and wave for 115k.

I would like to see expandable and retractable solar arrays (the roof has static panels) for boats in the future. Something like 5-10 kW panels that can run auxiliary, provide emergency cruising range, or serve any additional use case. I like the idea of spending longer periods out on the water if the weather permits. Don’t take any of this seriously. I know nothing about boats; I am just a solar enthusiast.
@aeconsulting1
@aeconsulting1 Месяц назад
Was thinking the same. Solar for some emergency or trickle charging or r low voltage charging would make sense. I have a small solar panel on my RV for trickle charging the batteries, works flawless when I have the RV stored a couple month, then start it up.

As I understand it, for a low cycle count battery system (infrequent use), storage voltage will be _extremely_ important. Battery life will be severely reduced by them sitting around for weeks or months at (nearly) full charge all the time. You might not care as much about getting 8-10k cycles out of them (like a car), but them not holding a charge in just a few years is a law suit in the making. A 226kWh pack is very expensive! (I don't who makes these batteries or what chemistry they are, but ask your manufacturer what the optimal storage level and temperature are. They will have that data... unless you're buying the cheapest things you can find - we did that, have many metal balloons)
@scottleggejr
@scottleggejr 24 дня назад
A boat or an RV with any kind of battery like this is 100% an awful idea. One lawsuit bankrupts the mfg and all of the "warranty" are dead. The biggest capital element is throwaway and non-serviceable when not if it breaks.

All the guy was saying is the people who buy these don't care if the hidden battery % drops by 10% in 5 years, because 1 it's hidden and second he would have bought another boat by then.

I love how the paradigms are shifting as we incorporate battery electrics systems into more more traditionally gas powered products. Incredible to see how an efficient we have been, and how many benefits accrue from getting rid of the noisy engine, the leaky oil, the smoky gas, and all the other bowl that comes with gas and diesel powered vehicles. also, I don’t know how many times I have gotten down to the water and the boat engine isn’t working, the fuel filter has algae stuck in it, the jet ski won’t start! Oh, and of course, we have to go to the field dock to fill up before we start our day. :-)
@jfbeam
@jfbeam Месяц назад
Now you can add "F...! I forgot to plug the boat in _last week_ to get it fully charged." This isn't something you can plug into the wall for a few hours to then go play. Even at a (difficult to find) 350k DC charger, it would take over an hour to fully charge, but half an hour would get you on the lake. I cannot over stress: Never. Fully. Drain. It. (don't go below 50% in my book. we've run the Electrica down to "won't cross the road" a few times, and it takes an eternity (12+ hrs) to charge it.)
@timdskibum
@timdskibum 28 дней назад
Lots of "claims" they are making that sound good to a salesman or politician. I have no desire to switch over. And once we start charging on the water somebody somewhere will die from electrical fault so don't assume they are foolproof. Reality is they are quite dangerous.
@jfbeam
@jfbeam 28 дней назад
@@timdskibum Happens already, but it's rarely a newsworthy story. Lots of docks have power, but few ("none") are designed for 50A+ continuous (hours) loads. It's far more likely to be the source of fires, not electrocution. (properly installed systems have "GFCI" type leakage detection.)
@polska905

What the hell are you talking about? Smokey engines? Burning oil? Loud?? You are talking about 2 stroke outboards, 4 stroke engines don't have any of these problems and everyone has switched to 4 strokes 20+ years ago. You can fill a gas boat at the dock in 5 minutes, this e-waste of a boat will take 20+ hours to recharge at a level 2 charger... It's a joke of a product, battery tech ain't there yet for high speed plaining boat, not even close. I know you want more power for more time, speed, etc., but 226kWh is already a massive battery pack. (best guess, nearly a ton, but they don't say jack about the pack, or show it) If there's more available volume, and it doesn't ruin weigh balance, maybe it could be doubled, but it's already insanely expensive.

If I lived on or near water, I would have an electric boat. There is no reason to put up with gas boat's issues any more. But like cars, the price needs to come down, not everyone wants, or can afford a quarter of a million dollar boat.

This is not your middle class recreational activity. The ARC Sport is clearly aimed at the wakeboard & ski enthusiast crowd who already pay six-figures for their boat, rigs, and equipment.

I love everything about this boat, but you have to challenge his comment about how much it costs to operate. Tens of dollars to recharge a 200 battery. I have very cheap residential off-peak charging eight cents per kilowatt. Even at that rate full charge would cost me $16. It’s unlikely in a commercial setting marina something like that you’re gonna get charge that shirt however I will concede that it’s still gonna be way cheaper than gas.

Hard to estimate the range, but he can tell you a gas boat gets exactly 1 to 2 mpg, but can't tell you how many miles it gets per kw 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 when ever someone beats around the bush like this you know the answer isn't good...

I’d be curious to know how much power it takes to get it up on a plane and do 20-25mph and how long it can sustain that. I think he said in this or an earlier interview that it would do 30+ hours at 5 mph (or maybe kts).

Nice boat. Just in from the Council on the Prevention of Language Chaos and the word Learning: learning is not a noun. Learning is a verb. You don’t learn a learning. You learn a lesson. Learnings is a non-word always used in corporate mumbo speak to sound smarter(?) by using not a word. The word you are searching for is “lessons”. YW

Electric makes sense for boats. Noise of a boat can defo kill the vibe, become annoying. And the rest he mentions.

I know that Out of Spec is into the long format videos, but anyone who's buying ANY kind of wake boat wants to know surfing specific information, and I found this VERY lacking sadly. You barely covered the cameras, and completely skipped through how surf modes and cruise control works, what kind of ballast system they have for shaping a wave, how or if they use hull gates or hull tabs, power wedges, etc. Anybody buying ANY kind of boat wants to know about storage, the controls at the pilots station, lighting, navigation (does this thing have GPS?), and you only showed storage below a single seat cushion? THEN you can get into things like "does this thing do OTA updates like a Tesla?" and "what are the powertrain warranties?". I appreciate the dialogue about how long it took to bring to market, but can you do that AFTER you've covered the fundamentals?
@polska905
@polska905 Месяц назад
4 to 6 hours is very misleading, to get 6 hours you need to average 33kw which is equivalent to 44hp, Im pretty sure you are going to use a hell of a lot more then 44hp to throw a wake on a boat that heavy...

25w to a 98dB speaker is as loud as 400w to an 86dB speaker. If anyone asks "how many watts" to compare speakers, they don't know what they are talking about even if they think they "to geek out about speakers". Not that it's important to know speakers for an EV channel, but that is very basic knowledge. Another test is, if someone thinks that Bose makes quality speakers, they generally have no real Clue and are just parroting good marketing.

The motor is a 500 hp motor which at peak would consume 372 kw/h. With 200 available that is full power for around half an hour. On their website the Arc one top speed is 40 mph. So you could go 20 miles at top speed and then crawl back if that top speed is the same. As they stated they leave a buffer to make it back at slow speed if the battery is empty. You could travel dramatically farther at slower speeds. He stated at the lowest speed you could go for over 24 hours with the last 5%.
