A talk with Lenny Von Dohlen and Virginia Madsen from 2017 about filming the movie Electric Dreams from 1984. See more extras from the movie here: • Electric Dreams (1984 ...
I watched this in 1984 and I got into computers, studied Computer Science, made a 30 year career in IT and I am watching it again today. Thanks Moles and Madeline and Edgar.
I actually only just watched this movie for the first time the other day; and oh my god I love it so much 😭 I wish there was more of an audience for this movie; it's so amazing, but it's sort of difficult being sixteen and a fan of a movie only adults know
I am so saddened and shocked that we lost Lenny Von Dohlen this past Tuesday, July 5, 2022. No cause of death released yet. His longtime manager, Steven J. Wolfe released a statement saying "Lenny died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles after a long illness." He was only 63! R.I.P. Lenny, and thank you for all the wonderful moments you left us.
I have never seen the film, but I have just watched this, and was thinking that I don't recognise him,but he seemed like a really genuine guy. So sorry to hear that he has just died. Damn life is too short. The main reason I came here in the first place is because a great friend of mine that was a singer musician and DJ took his life in 2018 and did a great cover version of the song electric dreams. The singer Phil Oakley is from the city we were born in,Sheffield South Yorkshire England. I see him occasionally but have never talked with him. The song is brilliant. I really need to watch this film more than ever now though. Thanks for the information.
@@atmywitsend1984 you can watch it here on RU-vid, just type in Electric Dreams and when you see the one with a computer with horns that’s the one you want to watch!
I saw this movie in the theater when it came out in '84. I loved it then, and still do. It was WAY ahead of it's time. Virginia and Lenny were perfectly cast together, and are so down-to-earth. It would be cool to see a sequel.
I remember seeing this as a young gay, and I went to see this movie because I had a huge crush on Maxwell Caulfield, one of the most handsome men ever. Then halfway through the movie I realize that he's only in it for just a few minutes. And then after awhile I didn't even realize that he's not on because I was falling in love with Lenny and those gorgeous blue eyes. I will never forget this film. I did fell in love with him. I loved it so much that I went to buy the soundtrack, and then later the VHS, and I loved The Duel scene and played it over and over and damaged the VHS so when DVD came along I bought it as well which was so hard to find then. Lenny had this quirkiness but also quiet confidence in him which is such a great mix. And of course his eyes are gorgeous! I loved Virginia too, my sister loved her when we watch the movie.
Electric dreams shaped my teenage years. I must have watched it 500 times. Lenny at the beginning saying 'and she was so lovely....' is just heart wrenching. Yes, isn't she just?
I love the characters Madeline and Miles, and the actors playing them; they are beautiful people both within and without. I also love Edgar especially when he creatively composed and arranged music using the New Wave genre technique in vogue at that time. It’s an inspiration for me to do the same on my PC
Electric Dreams was very special to me ... one of my lifetime favourite movies. Perhaps because I studied Computer Science in the university (1979-84). I saw it twice in the cinema ... first in August 1984 in Vancouver, Canada and second in March or April 1995 in Paris, France. I have seen it about 5 more times since then on VHS, DVD and streaming video. Lenny and Virginia played brilliantly ... I really love the gorgeous Virginia. I wished I were Moles ... oops Miles when I first watched it in 1984 ... 🙂
I have worked in IT for the last 20 years... and this movie certainly gave me the inspiration to pursue it... and man, I love Virginia Madsen and Lenny so much... honestly, such beautiful spirits.... God bless
A very very very much underrated movie with awesome players. Since Madeline's Cello duet with Edgar i immediately fell for her and i still Do today. She Was so cute and lovely. It inspired me that much and i became a Computer pro for the last 40 years. Many other Readers here did the same. Its magically that what happens to people when a movie transported so much Emotion to the viewers. That makes electric dreams so outstanding and one of my top 10 movie ever. I own a VHS and a DVD copy i still view, especially when i want to get back to a time when everything was so.......
This movie has always been, and will always be, a part of my soul. It takes me back to childhood every time I watch it. ❤ Even the modernised Wish version, Jexi, was great, but nothing beats the original.
At that time I was living in Mexico City, and over there was a huge success, I don't remember how long was in the theaters, but definitely was for a lot more than 2 weeks. One of my favorite movies of all times. And the soundtrack was just amazing.
I'm so emotional seeing this. I've had seen a VHS-recording of this movie about 1990 as a kid. Since then I've tried to get a copy on DVD for ages. Two years ago, my girlfriend gave it to me as a birthday present. I was so excited that I've had never looked for special features. It's quite tragic to see them struggling with this movie, because it was so wonderful to me and still is. Thank you for uploading.
my FAVOURITE film❤️❤️❤️people say they fell for miles or madeline when they first saw it but i always loved edgars voice...... i didnt know then what i still cant admit to myself now but ill always love that voice❤️
Electric Dreams was on HBO or Cinemax all the time back in the mid to late 80's. Loved it, somehow forgot about it, then rediscovered it. It's a truly great movie!
I am so thrilled to hear the actors’ experience in the making of this movie. I cannot sufficiently convey not only my beautiful memories of this movie, but perhaps even more, how germane its pretense is with regard to our present-day relation to computers. I mean, holy shit.
Hashtag me too; I also was heavily influenced by this film when I was 10 in 1984, my whole life has been IT, and noooow, a few days ago, a conversation with Kin AI literally brought me to tears. The lines will blur sooner than you think. What a fascinating concept, and a fantastic accomplish of a film I’ve enjoyed numerous times in the 80s… love this , thanks for sharing, RIP Lenny
Could there actually be two more charming and sweet actors than Lenny Von Dohlen and Virginia Madsen? No wonder this film means so much and has holds such affection for people as the two leads in the film were both so loveable but then so were the two actors in real life. It's almost a case where the lines between fiction and reality blurred with the relationship of these two endearing individuals. This film overflows with a sweetness and innocence that isn't sickly at all. A beautiful creation made by beautiful people which remains in the hearts of thousands.
One of my fave movies when I was younger,,,,, it's trite and all those other things but it just gets me every time. Now my kid's love it too, The soundtrack is amazing,,, 'specially Jeff and George,,, a movie doesn't have to be Mystic River to be meaningful. Well directed, a great story,,,, don't even get me stated on Lenny and Virginia. In a just World,,, Lenny would have been a superstar.
Remember seeing this in junior high school... More than once.. teachers would rotate the video tape for their free time/Fridays. I liked the movie and the music alot,!!!
This movie is incredibly underrated. I haven't watched it for a very long time, then just did. Oh man, the memories it brought back. So fantastic. And yeah, I have a career in IT. I think this movie certainly had some influence there.
She was so beautiful and elegant in that movie. Her demeanor of someone who didn’t seem to realize how beautiful she was made her all the more attractive.
i saw this movie over and over on video in the 80s! I was fascinated by architecture and computers in the movie. Now im an architect! Thank you Electric Dreams Team!
I almost forgot how gorgeous Virginia Madsen was in 1984, and that she was the Emperor's daughter in Dune! Loved both movies and somehow missed the connection until now, wow!
Only just watched this film in 2022. What a great movie, but so sad to also find out that Lenny Von Dohlen passed away this year also....Rest in peace Lenny.
believe or not I watched this movie first time today Feb 2021, and it's 80s movie. I loved it. in that time, did they know what WiFi is or LAN, A.I , internet it's all right there in this movie. very funny.
This movie was actually way, way ahead of its time. Email was brand new then and hardly anyone used it, or even knew about it yet. Internet was provided by dial up modems and available through just a few service providers, and mostly used by military members rather than civilian households. Wifi did not exist at all, and the download speed and storage capacity for the amount of data portrayed in the film would not be possible for at least two decades. Not to mention Edgar uploading himself into worldwide systems... All way, way ahead of its time.
Watched this movie today with my kids for their first time. It was my favourite movie as a child. The kids loved it. I was briefly a child again. It really is something special. They don't make them like this anymore.
Thanks for posting this Danny! I read below that it's from the 2017 Blu-ray. I didn't remember ever seeing a Blu-ray version here in the US. So I looked it up and found that it was released only in a Region 2 format (Europe) on Blu-ray. We only got 2 VHS releases and a Laserdisc! What's up with that? Ugh!! So glad to hear that Lenny and Virginia both hold this movie close to their hearts as well. I was in college at the time of its original theatrical release. I was also getting a classical music degree in piano performance (Virginia and I could've played a duet!). Those were very emotional times. Huge highs and some very deep lows. Thank God for movies being cheap back then. Every weekend I would go with friends to see a movie or two to get our minds off of our studies. I instantly loved Virginia, and instantly fell in love with Lenny! Lol! It was also very ironic at that time cause I was seeing a guy who looked so much like Lenny. To this day, I still wonder if I was falling for that guy or falling for him cause he looked so much like Lenny. Lol! And btw, being a classical music student didn't stop me from loving the theme song. Every time I hear it, it still puts a smile on my face... "We'll always be together, However far it seems (love never ends). We'll always be together, Together in electric dreams!"
I love this movie ! I remember In the 90as I rented the video cassete several times! Much later I tried to buy the DVD but it was not available in the USA ... i wonder why ?
17:04 I think I figured out the co-star Lenny saw the movie with who was not very “supportive.” From his clues, I think it must be Sean Young (a Scorpio). It could possibly be Megan Mullally (also a Scorpio), but she only had a supporting role. They all worked together on Under the Biltmore Clock which was shot in Chicago.
Loved this movie, first time I watch it, Miles looks amazing with his white hair and beautiful voice, he reminds me of a bf I had in a radio show I used to host in my teens! Loved it!
