I hit this problem this afternoon - playing through a mixer and a pair of Nu-X acoustic combos. It made my strat sound 'buzzy' and very dull. Even the bridge pickup wasn't enough to bring it back to normal - so I'm going to have to do some serious work on my presets to try and compensate for the mixer/combo setup - or haul my Orange combo around with me!

Wow! This had SUCH a nice tone! Just what I was looking for, and never thought to look for it in an acoustic amp. But then I saw someone selling this not too far from me, and thought I'd see how it sounded with an electric guitar, stumbled upon your video, and now I really want it. Thanks for this video! 😁

So, the answer is that someone who primarily plays acoustic-electric can use the "EG CLN" setting on the THR5A to get an acceptable sound when using an electric guitar, without having to spend an extra few hundred quid/dollars on an electric amp. Thanks!

It sounds awesome with the SG on clean and acoustic amp setting. Pretty nice jazz tone

i actually like the sound of the amp as acoustic more than as electric. it was amazing on the SG.

Very informative video, thank you! I've got an Epiphone SG, and bought a Carlsbro Sherwood 20R, and pretty happy with the setup. Cheers.

Epi SGs are great guitars. The best Epiphone have ever made. I have one myself and play it more than my expensive Fender Strat.

My guitars are in drop-d/drop-E (rock/metal guitarist) i used to use a big acoustic tube amp i restored when i was a teen, though i don't own an overdrive pedal i had a bit of distortion by just messing with settings (high/low ballanced towards low and mid at normal) it didn't sound all too bad and it didn't have an electric setting. A little fizz never been too much for me personally though

I run a SD-1 (drive all the way down) into the acoustic setting on a Katana MII with mild over drive (green boost on). I think this sounds great with my Strat.

Well, I have a strong feeling that Amp Simulator pedal can cure that overdrive sound through acoustic amp...

I have a Laney A-FRESCO, and a vox preamp with cab simulation. I would like to plug my acoustic guitar and my electric guitar to it. The acoustic going straight and electric going into a ts, delay, reverb. Would that make a difference? I mean, trying the cab sim on the preamp and going these effects. Or do you think I need an electric amp no matter what. Thank you in advance!

My Epiphone 339 plays great through my vip1 amp in acoustic mode. I accidentally forgot to load it on the trailer but I can't wait to hear it through my spark amp. My Epiphone LP Muse sounds good through my acostasonic 20 Watt amp and my VIP1 better than the spark amp because it has the chamberd body. Believe it or not my VIP1 sounds better in someways than the spark.

hello, i have a strat but an acoustic amp (fender acoustasonic 15), is there any way i can get the overdrive sound?

It's ok this acustasonic 15 amp for your Electric strat Guitar? I Need a compact and cheap amp with MIC enter.
@Sebastian-cn7zx
@Sebastian-cn7zx 3 года назад
@@renebasso.v4301 it works but it will always sound clean. I bought an overdrive pedal and it sounds decent, but I recommend you get an amp made for electric guitar.(fender has a lot of accessible amps)

@@Sebastian-cn7zx Got the same problem as you,bought an Squier Strat trying to get into guitar, and saw a amp for 30€ and bought it, not knowing it was accoustic. Bought a Dolamo D9 Distortion pedal to see if i can at least get it to sound kinda eletric...

Yes turn the chorus up or piggy back it through a electric guitar amp.

Nice...got a THR5A by mistake for my electric...will use it in EQ CLN setting and my Zoom pedal to emulate the electric guitar amps w/ distortions...then maybe TUBE, DYNAMIC, CONDENSER for cleans...

I am getting a reverend airwave 12 string electric guitar I have a 100 watt Marshall acoustic amp and am wondering if it would sound good through it trying not to have to buy a vox for it but I do have a janglebox pedal am planing on using it for your jangly tunes Beatles byrds etc…
@agapologia

I wonder if a ts9 with the drive almost on 0 and tone rolled back at least halfway would lend itself to a tasty dynamically overdriven sound depending on picking attack on that acoustic setting.

How much less compression is there wheb you use it as an acoustic amp? Im wondering about getting my S-style to have the *microdynamics* of acoustic play when I want to get real soft but still *sound* kind of like a strat.
@PhatPhishGuitarStudio
@PhatPhishGuitarStudio 11 месяцев назад
Controls for compression, chorus, delay and reverb are the same in all modes. You can have as much or as little compression as you want.
@RobSmith-rn3ie
@RobSmith-rn3ie 11 месяцев назад
@@PhatPhishGuitarStudio I'm referring to the way and electric amp adds compression to your sound just by amplifying it, not the additional compressor this model has.

about the dynamic microphone with acoustic guitar, is that review in this same video? thanks in advance
@robsmith6443
@robsmith6443 2 года назад
You say you've actually added compression, but I actually came here because I've been considering running my Gretsch Streamliner semi into an acoustic because I actually want more microdynamics. I like the *tone of my pickups, but I want the *dynamics more like what I get when I play acoustic...can you tell me if an acoustic amp will reduce my compression compared with an electric one? Will it do what I want in terms of being able to get an electric tone out of it (if also used as pedal platform) but with significantly more nuanced dynamics?? (Btw I have a single-coil guitar too, so the pickups aren't at issue here...both sound great, but as someone coming from unplugged more compressed than what I'm looking for)...thanks!!!

Fantastic video. I am am interested in acoustics and clean tones with an electric and this might just fill the bill. My acoustics have the K&K mini pickups inside the guitar & under saddle pickups with no onboard preamps. Will there be enough output with this amp for good performance?
@junkname9983
@junkname9983 Год назад
Yeah, the overdrive is definitely evident. But the acoustic setting isn't bad, might actually be better in some cases.

I have a fender acoustic amp in the living room and my family doesn’t let me put another amp for my electric guitar there. I consider to run my guitar through an iridium and connect it to the AUX of the acoustic amp. Do you think that would sound ok?

This is almost exactly the review I was looking for, thanks. I'm swithering over whether to get a Kinsman JustPro to play a Gretsch semi-hollow through it. The Epiphone is a similar beast and the output sounds very competent. I also play (Fender Mustang) Bass for a Folk music group - nothing heavy - and am wondering how that sounds with the acoustic amp. Any experiences?

@PhatPhishGuitarStudio
@PhatPhishGuitarStudio 3 года назад
Claptons's "woman tone" comes from guitar settings, not amp...both pickups together with the volume down a bit on the bridge pickup, and tone turned down on both pickups
