"Time" has always been one of my favorites. I was 16 when this came out and just listened to it last week just thinking how well this has stood up over the years. I remember in high school how people just loved the opening drum roll on "Prologue".

I liked the idea of a movie. Kind of like what that Japanese animator did with Daft Punk's Discovery and made it into Interstella 5555. Interestingly, ELO also put out an album called Discovery (according to Jeff it was Disco-very!)

Quite similar to Baron Von Luxxury I was about 11 years old when I got "Time" as my very first music album ever. And I played it again and again and again. And now, after so many years, I have all ELO Albums and most of the unreleased stuff and still it's my favourite album and ever will be!

What a entertaining review of an album created by a true genius, Jeff Lynne. Though heavily knocked about by critics at the time of their 70s popularity, most have done a re-evaluation & turnabout. Luxxury is an example of how a younger generation of artists have been influenced by Lynne. From Common and will.i.am to Cher and The Hives, dozens of samples from ELO have found their way into today's music. Lynne will also be awarded a star on the infamous Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2014.

Just stumbled upon this old video. I have listened to the album over and over - and I attended the Time Tour at the NEC, near Birmingham UK. It is absolutely my No.1 album of all Time. A personal note: whenever I listen to 'Hold on tight' I have a desperate urge to correct the lines sung in French. But what the hell, it's the greatest! No contest.

I just bought this album today because of this review. An instant favorite, and it was even an affordable pick (although the cover is kind of sticky, something I'm told is epidemic with certain labels' sleeve cardboard).
@VinylRewind
@VinylRewind 8 лет назад
Nice! I never heard of sticky covers being a label specific thing. Is yours a US pressing?
@Agamemnon2
@Agamemnon2 8 лет назад
Vinyl Rewind No, a Dutch one. The guy at my local record store seemed to think certain labels were more susceptible than others, but I don't know if anyone's studied it in detail. I own a Harry Belafonte that's so tacky you could use it for flypaper, though :-P
@VinylRewind
@VinylRewind 8 лет назад
Yeah, it's probably the lamination used on European pressed jackets. They have a different feel than most US pressings. not sure how they are different but it doesn't surprise me that some could become sticky over the years.

Wow!! My favorite ELO album! TIME. Thanks for giving it its due. Completely under rated album. I've always got the feeling even Mr. Jeff Lynne puts it way down compared to his others, but I have always thought this album has the most heart than any other ELO album. I have often considered myself making a feature film out of the story. Many... many times over.

I just stumbled on your videos, and let me tell you: I REALLY LOVE THE WAY YOU PUT THEM TOGETHER. What I really like most is that you, not only review some of what you bought, but, you give so much trivia and really put us into the era of when those songs and albums were released. As far as THIS album is concerned, I have "Hold on Tight" on a 45rpm, and that is the only song I have from this album, although, I do have a couple of "Greatest Hits" compilations of ELO. The second you put that needle on that record, even though I didn't know that song, I KNEW it was ELO. I only wish ELO was credited with that "Wall of Sound" that Phil Specter (pervert) was credited with. I've been on a binge-watch of some of your videos because I used to be the walking encyclopedia of music when I was a kid. After I got caught up in college and work in my later years, it's been put on the side. I'll never give up my album collection, and if I'd kept up over the years, I'd have more to move than I can handle! I'd rather move my piano than move 10 crates of albums and records and books! Thank you!

ELO, a band who back in the day when I was in School were uncool to like. But I liked,, No loved some of there stuff. And Jeff Lynne ended up in The Traveling Wilburys,,, also as was pointed out in the video, the fact he was like the 4th Beatle when they done the 2 singles in the 90's makes him a LEGEND for me..
@VinylRewind

I didn't realize he was in the Travelling Wilburys, that's awesome. I loved those guys as a kid. I loved their name too. I think I did the same thing too, I thought they were a little too poppy when I was kid. They weren't as tough as Hendrix or the Doors, haha, now I can't enough of them

ELO is one of my favorite bands, along with Sparks and 10cc! (oh, and the Beatles of course.) It was interesting to hear about "Time" since it's not my favorite one, far from it. In fact, my favorite "Time" tracks were left out of the album and ended up as B-sides: "When Time Stood Still" and the incredible "Julie Don't Live Here Anymore" which is my second favorite Jeff Lynne track, (my favorite is "Video", from the "Electric Dreams" soundtrack). I looooove Jeff Lynne!

Massive ELO fan, they were the first band I "discovered" as a 15 year old venturing out on my own looking for new music. This was around 1976 or 77. Picked up A New World Record and Out Of The Blue, ventured into the back catalog and they became my favorite group. Then Discovery/Xanadu happened and it turned me off. So I stopped seeking out new music because ELO had gone down a road I didn't want to follow. So I never heard Time until about 40 years later. I still MUCH prefer the early ELO records (On The Third Day being the best, imo) but Time was a solid return to form that ELO never bested later on.

ELO is one of my favorite bands - and one history has just rewritten into this cheese/nothing band which is just so far from the truth - they are only known for Xanadu and Discovery, now. Great entry of Vinyl Rewind, Eric!

Let us not forget the co-founder of ELO, Roy Wood. After leaving The Idle Race, Jeff Lynne joined and helped save Roy Wood's band The Move. They recorded that band's masterpiece, MESSAGE FROM THE COUNTRY...which featured DO YA and CALIFORNIA MAN, and LOOKING ON, which featured the song BRONTOSAURUS...get all of Roy Wood's solo records, especially BOULDERS, on which Roy plays all the instruments and sings all the vocals.
