More electric motors on hang gliders, featuring "Carbon boy" 11kg thrust and the "POD" 8kg thrust. Showing the difference in normal flight characteristic when using a small helper motor. These two showcase flights were at Yallingup WA and Daydream - Halls Head WA two awesome flying sites in Western Australia.

Found a hang glider for $750! As soon as I mechanically fit and weld an aluminum frame for my ebike, going to fuse the two together and add floats! And fly to Australia for the babes! Leaving no stone unturned until I find Ms. Right! A motorcycle with wings…Going to call it The Raven!

Rob, this is just getting better all the time. I love how it helped at Daydream plaza, I flew there once and it can be a real scratch, the assist looks like it would make it so much fun to fly. I would love to see if you guys could beat the south bound record at Bunbury, I reckon you guys would be able to jump the gap at stratham and head on to the Capel river if it had a bit of north in it.

Of course, we pilots pilot should should use this new technology with discretion in populated areas to avoid annoying the residents. But for exploring remote sites, I see this as a welcome development. Much lighter and more energy efficient than the old ultralight engines. And less stinky!

8:58 I had a flight like that one. I couldn't get back to the ground fast enough, even though there was a good chance I'd end up landing in a large patch of blackberries. With luck I missed them all.

Some nice rigs and sites👍 I always wondered about doing a setup like this. I did envisioned a custom motor inside the keel or rejigging a keel to fit a motor. But having the thrust line off the keel seems ideal. However, as budget inventors we work outside of ideal and off the self. I currently fly a small delta trike and look to do a light weight electric setup,,,someday. Keep up the good work and safe landings.

Thanks Patrick! We think we have found the perfect spot for a motor on a low performance glider. We think that the thrust line is in the same position as the centre of drag. Who would have thought.... :)

@@patrickmckowen2999 I see, well appreciate the reply anyway...it's an older Bill Bennett trike but always hangered n barely flew, still like new. Do you by chance know anything about the hang "block" type setup in those?

So going electric increases the window of flight, making marginal conditions more manageable (for the most part, or are there some aspects of flight negatively impacted by the addition of weight, control systems & performance...and pilot skill?). I'd guess within the normal range of operation there are now maneuvers previously not routinely possible. that can be practiced with a greater degree of safety, allowing efficiency in skill development that may also transition back to flight without motors.

1:44 Frozen - no corrections what so ever. I've seen that over and over again. You need to let students run the glider on flat ground in low winds to get the feel for it and build some instinct.

Fantastic unit, I've now been roped into building one for a friend. On the throttle, you are using a potentiometer on the index finger right? I was wondering whether you ever use part throttle or whether a simple on/off control would be sufficient given the low power?

Yes just a little pot. We enjoy having throttle control. It allows us to us the motor for hours just ticking over when its needed

That video was all over the country but the spectacular beach I think you mean with the rounded hills is near Tunkalilla South Australia.

Those winds were "flyable", but not soarable.

True but then you can fly with no wind at all when you are jumping off a cliff :) The wind at Yallingup that day was 7Kn. It was fun to be flying when all the para-gliders were grounded. I even found one of their guys for them. He had landed in tall bush and was having a hard time finding his way out.
