James Melton I think Jason Becker might have been greater had he not gotten ALS, but yeah, I agree. I don’t think Tosin Abasi is super far behind Guthrie though.
It doesn't matter at what age you pick that guitar up. Its about having that clarity in your brain to visualize it all. I don't know how people rate one guitarist better than the other or the best ever. Guitar playing is not a competition. It is about playing the soul. Technically Guthrie might be or rather is the best.
My theory about why someone isn't necessarily getting the spotlight and recognition he/she deserves is because sometimes, just sometimes, he/she is too much for this world and what people can comprehend and appreciate. Guthrie belongs in special category, he can't be compared to anyone. He is unreal. He has EAR and he has 5/5 technical ability - he's like Joe Pass of shredding. Such a praise worthy person and a musician. Every time i see him or hear him, i feel honored just to witness this wonder.
I love that Guthrie's playing shook him up from it's brilliance. The amount of brilliance and sheer dexterity and fluidity at that speed leaves you breathless. Also the bass is astonishing also.
Guthrie Govan is very good, but Ive heard him say recently this song is not one of his favorite ones.. :S:S I think wonderful slippery thing, or sevens, are two amazing songs to react to... My opinion, annyway xDxD
many songs of his first and unique album yet was made at her teenagehood. One of the most famous are "Wonderful sliplery thing" that he won an contest when he was 16 y old. also, Some of the Aristocrats songs, one of that is "Bad Asteroid", are made around GG old songs/ideas
People always talk about his speed and technique and bla bla. yes it's true, but the world is replete with "weedley wee" guitar playing. Guthrie is so incredibly musical, less like an exhibition and more like a singer. This makes him a complete player and therefore a genuine Master.... with a capital M mind you!
Hey dude, you really have to check out Epiphany by Intervals! If you like melody intertwined with heavy guitars you'll enjoy Intervals' music. I suggest you check them out soon!
Brett Garsed is great at improv too. Not so much an alternate picker, but probably the best hybrid picker ever. Check out the hour long concert at MIT with TJ helmerich. Godly shit.
I always enjoy watching people watch Guthrie play, he really is a phenomenon, and a nice guy as well. Best player I've heard and I've heard a few in my 72 years!😊
I dig your reaction to Guthrie. I looked at your face the whole time so a vocal reaction wasn't really necessary! I adore the fact that you don't judge like most reactors do. You're awesome sir:)
You've probably gotten a million people ask you to react to The Aristocrats already. It's Guthrie on guitars, Marco Minneman on drums, and Tony Levin (I think) on "bass" (Chapman stick usually). Their live shows are something to behold. Just music, no singing.
All jokes aside...Guthrie first picked up a guitar in '74 (his dad showed him his first 3 chords at the age of 3)...Tosin wasn't born until nine years later, and didn't pick up a guitar until Guthrie had already written 'Waves'.
