People criticize IONIQ 5N by its sound and clutch are all fake. However, it is an option that only Hyundai can provide that other companies do not. The EU will ban the sale of internal combustion engines within a few decades, and not only in the EU, but in many countries as well. In this situation, Hyundai's attempt to transplant the advantages of the internal combustion engine into an electric vehicle deserves praise. Also, they work very well and make the driving experience smoother and enhance the fun. These options can be turned off at any time, and the '650hp' & '0-100 in 3.4 sec' BEAST can be transformed into the normal IONIQ 5, one of the best family EVs, anytime. It has all the same conveniences such as enormous interior space and V2L. The best part of the IONIQ 5N is not numbers like '0-100 3.4sec' or '650hp' (although it is already powerful enough). Ilt has the best driving feel and cornering and tremendous chassis performance of any EV under $100K currently. IONIQ 5N recorded a lap time of 7min 45sec at the Nürburgring. It is similar to Porsche Taycan and Model S Plaid. EV's output drastically decreases after driving at maximum speed a few times due to the heat of the battery. However, the IONIQ 5N remains fine even if driven at full power all day. Hyundai may not the best in EV technology, but it has the world's best technology in battery heat management. Tesla's '1000hp' is only a peak number. I think sustainability of power is more important. If this car was made by a German brand like BMW it would start at at least $150K. But IONIQ 5N starts at $65K. This is by far the best value options for anyone considering a sporty EV.

The Ionia 5N actually makes me want to try EVs. Great job by all the engineers involved in this car’s production and design.

I wouldn't call these sports cars, more like rapid GTs. The Hyundai would be my choice for it's clever innovations.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 N rocks!! Out of all competitors. Thinking innovative in electric car that makes it fun rules all!!

The advantage of the I5N is that it can use one car for two purposes. It turns into a comfortable family CUV when all sports functions are turned off, and it turns into a high-performance hot hatch as soon as sports modes such as N-lace or N-shift are turned on. In other words, electric cars with two excellent functions and a good price are rare. It is just regrettable that Hyundai's prejudice and name value are compared to other brands.

The Hyundai is the only car here that's a winner

I have now owned the Ioniq 5 N for over a month and it is truly a magnificent vehicle. A solid 9 out of 10 and one of those rare cars we will look back on as truly transformative for its time. There are a few improvement areas, most notably its range and turning radius, but I can easily look past that considering how good it is. Superb vehicle and one that makes my 991.2 Carrera T being left in the garage more than it should…

Hyundai IONIQ 5 N all day long

I thought I'd would never hear a consensus from car enthusiasts that a Hyundai beats a Porsche, BMW, etc... what world are we living in? Hyundai just transformed the market. I can't imagine any manufacturer not following in their footsteps. Again, it's just weird even saying that. :)

I have driven the first generation Taycan. It has superior aero, steering and dynamics. But if I have to consider what I get for the money, I definitely go for the Ioniq 5 N.

Hyundai has by far the best battery and heat management technology in EV market. Even the Tesla Model S Plaid and Porsche Taycan can't turn as well as the IONIQ 5N on the track because their batteries overheat. IONIQ 5N is one of the few electric vehicles that is truly a ‘sports’ car.

The most exciting thing news is that Hyundai has the Ioniq6 N and the N Vision 74 in the pipeline!

It was quite clear that Hyundai was going to nail it after their ICE N cars entered the car market at top positions immediately.

Ioniq 5 N is the most reliable EV. Other will die at Nurburgring within 1 lap. Ioniq 5 N can do more than 3 laps until battery runs out. It's temperature control is far better than any other competitors.

If ever there was a foregone conclusion in a group test this one would be it. Hyundai ioniq 5N is head and shoulders above every other EV on the planet.

Had a go in a Ionic 5N recently and wow, what a car. So much more involving than my EV6 GT, and that’s a great car too. The Ionic 5N brings the electric car closer to its petrol siblings. The future is exciting!

Agreed that the IONIQ 5N is amazing value and fun for money compared to al the others on offer. And it beats half of them in practicality and everyday usability too. Funny how it feels more desirable than a > million super car to me personally.

That Hyundai Ionia 5 N is the real deal.

IONIC 5 N is the only interesting car to watch here.

The Ioniq N is only a hot hatch if it were 5:8 scale. They remind of the Lancia Delta until you see one in person and realize it's much larger. In other words, it's an SUV.

People will look back at the Hyundai ioniq N and realize that’s when the electric car started making sense, the rest are brilliant but the ioniq engages the driver better than even an ice car.

The only one that excites me is the IONIQ5 N, with i5 M60 on far second and Taycan close third. Feels like Hyundai put an actual effort to make EV exciting. I, for one, cannot wait to see what Alpine can do with the upcoming Alpine-Renault 5 EV. Normal Taycan 4S or Turbo is more than good enough, turning it into a faux-GT3 just ruins the usability of it. i5 feels like a normal car, but at the end it doesn't excite. Lotus is just atrocious, they absolutely hate their old fans and customers, feels like Geely just want to use Lotus name to sell cars Tesla is a car. Pininfarina Battista does not count because mortals can't buy one.

there will always be badge snobs but for the true enthusiasts, there is one clear winner and that is the Hyundai Ioniq5, I can't believe what they have achieved.

Many people don't pay attention to the IONIQ 5n incredible braking performance. These brakes are permanent. You don't have to buy expensive brake options. They don't realize that the braking performance is the reason why fake gears that are discounted as gimmicks are possible. No one can do that because they do not know that brakes generate a lot of energy and that a system and battery technology that can accept it are needed to do so. The most important technology of the Ioniq 5n is a technology that accepts the physical force of 0.6g. You must understand that it is only possible with Korean technology. If you do not understand that, you do not understand electric vehicles.

I own an EV6 Kia and wish I had an option to switch gears and hear the engine noise. I may not want it all the time but for those days I’m missing the sound it’s a great option.

I fast forwarded to the N portion; and I had a feeling that the N was going to win the verdict. I'm waiting for the '26.

Ioniq5n changed whole perception of boring EVs

A few years ago I would have laughed at the thought of a Hyundai being the best and most attractive car in a test… or any setting… now the non N (due to cost) is basically the only EV currently sold that I seriously consider buying. #glitchinthematrix

As someone who's been in TV for over 35 years, I've been watching RU-vid channels with interest over the past five years and this is the first time I've seen something that approaches the polish, style and editorial discipline of the traditional broadcast world. Hats off to writer/presenter James along with shooter/editors Grant Lester and Tej Bhola. My only criticism would be that, like all non-linear content out there, it's still too long and could have done with being no more than 25 minutes long but that's just the curse of streaming I guess. There's nothing like the restrictions of broadcast scheduling to train your discipline 😁

Love this - what a car the i5n is. Would like to see it head to head with the new Tesla model 3 performance. I have the old m3p, which is brilliant despite Elon’s seemingly repeated attempts to sabotage his own brand. I’ve had a lot of performance ICE cars in my time but I am never going back.

Given the unanimous praise received by the Ioniq5 N around the world, I knew it would win before even watching the video. Hyundai is now The brand.

My vote goes to "N" too. Model S plaid with Track Pack is a different car, sorry you could not test it. It will be nice to see how new Model 3 ludicrous will run.

Hyundai Ioniq 5N is the best all-rounder. It makes sense. Its practical and affordable comparted to the rest of the cars in your test. Ultimately there will always be a bias towards a favourite. However, the Ioniq even beats a 2.7 mill car. The Hyundai is brilliant and will get those not interested in EV's VERY INTERESTED.

Having owned the KIA EV6 GT for more than a year, it has been pretty obvious that the Ioniq 5N would enter the EV-market like a tornado. The EV6 GT is made for the road, and is brilliant at that… but the Ioniq 5N is made for the track, and because of that, everything has been dialled up. 😊

I'd be interested to see how the Lucid Sapphire would do in this company.

It’s quite ironic that the winner of this EV test is the car which tries the hardest to replicate an ice vehicle the most with almost everything it does, including price.

I really like the lotus. I would personally have the Porsche but the Ionic 5 has changed the market and will hopefully be the benchmark for other manufacturers in the future

I get the fact that it’s a huge job to get all of these cars together at once and all the logistics. costs, staff, camera crews etc. I’m sure there are other factors that I haven’t mentioned or more likely simply do not know but to do a performance test of this calibre with cars that punch out so much power in wet conditions? Makes very little sense to me and to be honest I feel that each brand is short changed by way of conditions. Yes, they all faced those same conditions but we all know that all cars are not created equal when it comes to slippery or wet surfaces. What a shame and I say that with the greatest respect for what CAR magazine did with the conditions they faced. Surely performance cars of this ilk deserve a dry track for a proper test. One also cannot help but think that the fact that the presenter has had already driven the Hyundai Ionic N on a dry track at its launch, got to put it through its paces and see its true performance potential helped in choosing the winner? I can’t help but think perhaps if this test was in dry conditions the result would have been different. Only my view here, and as a fan of performance cars not a brand, it has nothing to do with who actually won, more so was this test an accurate and fair assessment for all the contenders.

5N dominates all of fun EVs. At least BMW and Porsche should make cars like this otherwise they will be left out of the competition. Germans should learn from Koreans how to make perfomance fun EVs with affordable price. Germans got not much time to keep their place in motorsports

What a great job from Hyundai, they’ve been doing a great job for years now. After seeing the Ioniq 5 N, I wish Porsche allowed us to shift between the 2 gears for the new Taycan as well. I’ll still be getting the Turbo GT in PTS Speed Yellow though

Pininfarina Battista for sure with unlimited resources. Too bad it's base on the Rimac Nevera. The Rimac is awesome but Pininfarina would be much more lofty with it's own chassis power plant creation. No dought the I5 N is awesome at the lower $$ spectrum. I have both the Plaid S and EV6 GT, they are both topnotch in their own categories.

If I could chose from any of these cars my order would be: Taycan, i5, ioniq

They should call it the Ironic5N, because it best restores the fun factor by emulating ICE powertrain characteristics.

Ioniq 5N is the only car I can say to my wife it's a very practical family car.

I love combustion engines, but: Ioniq 5 N hands down.

Hyundai just need to get the guys behind Raceroom Experience's engine sounds and the Ioniq would be perfect (imagine swapping in an american V8 or italian V12 sound for a laugh). Was looking at getting a Taycan but this is now top of the list if they're not completely sold out.

Great work Hyundai for understanding the value of fun, noise, involvement! 33:07 Now give us more engine sampling options - surely a car that can sound like any of the great motors from history would be SOOOO compelling! V4? V5? V8? V10? How about a Tie Fighter? The engine note from a Supermarine Spitfire? A V10 F1 car? A heavily turbo-charged straight six with chattering, whooshing waste-gates? It’s all just software and sound quality at this point, now THAT would get my attention. Hey, you could even match it to a fake sequential or H-gate manual stick shift with perfect rifle-bolt gear changes because it doesn’t actually have to change any physical gears! Let’s goooooooo!

That's why the upcoming Ioniq 5N One-Make Racing event in Korea is highly anticipated. As electric vehicles are poised to replace internal combustion engines for various reasons, it's intriguing to see if they can also fully substitute in the realm of extreme racing.

Where’s the EV6 GT?

Without the Lucid Air Sapphire, this isn’t a test that will be able to answer which EV is the best performance EV.

But the Model 3 Performance is the nimble, fun Tesla, not the Plaid.

This is refreshing. EV’s are here and CAR recognise they deserve a review to show people the experiences they deliver. i have an IX3 and it is hands down the best car i have ever had for so many reasons. i will never go back to a combustion engine because i feel like i’m driving a steam train. i don’t know what other EVs deliver in terms of experience and so i’m thankful for this review to sharing them

Not exactly fair to test the super specialized Porsche with the track package that even removes the rear seats, and not testing the Tesla with the available track software. Also…the Tesla costs so much less.

Pininfarina for the looks, N for the sound and looks and the "gearbox". I hope manufacturers realise sooner than later that nobody needs 1000hp cars, thats just too much.
