In this video I will show you how to tie the best wire pulling knot that will not damage the wire and that will pull and grip the wire no matter how much lubricant you have on the wire. It's easy to learn and quick to tie.

That’s cool thanks for showing , I like to use an Icicle or marlin spike hitch with some half hitched to the end of the wire for smaller lines and smaller wires,

Definitely doing this at work. We usually just strip back the tip of the wires about a ft back and undo the strands cut a few off and making a head off that with the rope attached and duct tape. Works fairly good when pulling with the tugger.
@juliovalencia4948
@juliovalencia4948 3 года назад
I would continue doing it that way to keep the head small

This isn't in place of a wire pulling head. I should've been more clear this is only when you need to pull more out of the conduit after your head is out. No knot can replace a wire pulling head. Sorry if you misunderstood

you are so close, I started watching the video and thought you had it, but you don't. In a hard pull where your tugger is almost blowing up type pull and your knot will still dig in and damage conductors. I'm a retired electrician, I've never come across anyone else who's known this, I call it a fist knot. This knot is so easy, it starts just like you did the 4 or more looping around the conductors leaving a few feet of spare, you simply take the spare end and bring it back up the the rope just above your loops outside of the conductors and looped rope, do a couple half hitches and your done. I've done hard 500 kcmls with this. the harder you pull the more the hangmans noose function tightens w/o any part of the rope digging in. The other use of this is where you are pulling into a panel, the tugger frame only let's you get so much to where the cables will be damaged by the pulley. You take approx 10' of spare rope, tie the knot like I said and then you "chug" it up a couple feet, then push the fist knot back down the conductors and repeat till you got enough. I worked in W. Wa. in rainy conditions, this knot didn't slip. I should do a video not sure my decription communicates well.

After the 5 or so wraps when you come back across the coils you can close with a half hitch, clove hitch or something similar. One thing to keep in mind is to always keep at least some tension on that knot in the pulling direction, as the knot is made to before loose once tension is released.

That's it alright. But he doesn't really teach you how to put it together. Someone that doesn't really work with rope won't get it. But that's definitely the knot. Thanks for telling me.

Is that knot for cable tray or conduit pulling? I would be worried it wouldn’t fit through my conduit.
@TheArtOfConduitBending
@TheArtOfConduitBending 3 года назад
No it's actually not for pulling through the conduit it's for pulling out more wire after your head comes out and you have no other way of pulling on the head anymore we use this knot to tie around the wires and pull more wire out of the conduit.
@TheArtOfConduitBending

honestly i really only wanted to do a couple of specific knots that i use all the time i'm not familiar with the kellem knot but i'll look it up.

That is correct. I saw that video on youtube. it looks very similar. I'm not sure if thats where the knot came from or not but it looks similar. Its very useful.

a big knot if the conduit is bare minimum per the NEC.

Well that ain’t going to work, conductors are already at 75% fill and that knot looks bigger than the pipe.

@Hitman.13.
@Hitman.13. 3 месяца назад
First you ve missed the point of this knot, and 2nd conduit should NEVER, under ANY circumstances be filled to 75%! Go open a code book! Usually the max for 3+ conductors is 40%...I don't know in what hack shit world is it anywhere near 75%...
