3M Command strips (that’s what is being used) also come in clear. Using them instead of the white strips would allow you to leave the tab on. They can be found in most hardware stores.

Works best in a conventional electric guitar amp like a Fender Deluxe Reverb or something... or is an acoustic amp preferable?

Tip, if you gently pull both sides of the cable (stretch it against itself ) and scraping your thumb along the underside, it will "train the cable to take the lumps out of it and arc the curve around the bouts.

Just got mine mounted on a modified folk 000 low entry model. The pickup 5K Humbucker makes the sound skyrocketing . Very stable in different type of amp (acoustic -tube-solid state) same when coupled with pedals. This pickup is best high quality product in its category within an affordable budget.

i own a dobro type resonator guitar with two round soundholes just below the end of the neck - not enough space to fix a pickup in between. is it possible to fix it on the metal cover of the spider type resonator?

it can be tricky with that type of resonator because of the metal cover on those sound holes, blocking the area where you would normally install the pickup. Depending on what type of cover you have on the cone, you might be able to slide the pickup closer to the bridge. Just make sure you have enough clearance under the strings to fit the pickup. The height of the pickup is 5/16"

t should be fine, as long as the strings are not spaced wider than the pickup itself. I've used these pickups with bass strings, and they sound great

Hi Justin. I’m an old guy over here in Australia. Have been following you since the “shovel slide guitar” … which was brilliant. I’m not a representative of any guitar maker. An Australian guitar maker, Cole Clark has recently released some very awesome acoustics with amazing pickup options. It’s their “true hybrid” series. I’m pretty sure you’d like them. Anyway. I have been using these pickups for years, and I've taken them off of dozens of guitars. I've never had one leave a mark on any of the guitars, but if you have an older guitar with very delicate finish, there is a chance that the tape might pull some of the finish off, especially if the finish is already checking or pealing from age.

It's a pretty ideal platform to make a goldfoil style pup esp considering traditional goldfoils sorta mount in a similar way... On the front of the body rather than down inside it... I'm jussayin... Not erbody like humbuckers... 🙃

I love the natural sound of the resonator too. My favorite tones are when the natural sound from the mic are tastefully blended with the sounds I can get from the humbucker pickup. Especially in the bass strings, which allow me to add a lot of body, which doesn't naturally come from the acoustic tone of the resonator guitar.

Have you tried a piezo pickup? Then you don't need the microphone, the piezo picks up all the vibrations in the sound board, which includes all the characteristics of the acoustic instrument. I've been using them for years, esp the piezo "disks" where the piezo element is bonded to a brass disk. You can EQ the output and get any tones you want. I'd bet they're cheaper than any humbucker, too.

I've used disc piezos for years ( mainly on cigar box guitars), but the humbucker gives you a much more balanced & consistent tone, and the output is much stronger, doesn't need a buffer pedal, and is far less susceptible to feedback at high volumes.

The closer you get to the bridge / biscuit, the more twangy and bright the tone will be. Also, the string clearance may dictate the placement for you. On the resonators that I used in the video, I placed it in the spot where I had the most string clearance. Some resonators have flat cone covers, and that might allow you to get more creative with your placement. You can actually plug the pickup in and listen to the tone before you mount the pickup... that method allows you to place the pickup in your favorite spot for the tone that suites you the best.

This will be for my acoustic archtop (looks like the white one on your wall, but cheaper). But I'm also thinking it might make a good replacement for the crappy p90 in my Chinese electro-resonator. Hopefully the pups will stay in stock, for the most part, in the store.

Have you made any modifications to the Gretsch Steel Body in order to fit the pickup? E.g. modified the bridge to raise the action of the strings? Or something else? Thanks in advance for your advice.

No, I didn't make any modifications to the Gretsch Honeydipper. I just made sure to place the pickup as far away from the neck as possible in order to give the strings as much clearance as possible over the top of the pickup. If I had installed the pickup right against the fretboard, it would not have had enough clearance.

How bad is the finish on the guitar if you ever want remove it?

I've used these pickups on dozens of guitars, and never had any of them mar any of the finishes on any of the guitars. If you have a vintage guitar with a delicate finish that's already starting to check, crack, or peel, the adhesive strip could possibly peel off any loose finish that it's adhered to.

It would definitely work with a 12-string... just make sure that the strings are not wider than the pickup. Some 12-strings have particularly wide string spacing.
