THAT Mel9 high choir is the greatest neoclassical/gothic/metal backing pad, hands down, eternally. So evocative, so so prog/metal essential. Totally perfect for shredding over and melancholic Zep-like Mellotron vibing. Astounding,
Good grief! Where has this video been all my life?! You know, I have a Mel 9 pedal and I have never played anything remotely as beautiful as the first 10 minutes of this video. I have seen your work on other demos and song instructions, but I have never been transported like that… Tomorrow will be a very different day for my Guitars, my pedals and me. Thank you for sharing your hard work and dedication to expression of perfection. 🎸👨🏼⚕️🫶✌️♾️🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸👍
I’m constantly amazed when I hear your playing, Dave. I’m still new as an adult player. Won’t ever be this good but it still is so inspiring to listen to.
If you dive the whammy bar, hit a chord and slowly raise the bar back up with the Mel on the orchestra setting and with a load of reverb, you might get a sort of "THX the audience is listening" type effect as the notes rise and the chord comes slowly into tune.
@@mraycgz I used to do this ages ago with a Digitech GSP 2101 on one of the presets that was a kind of volume swell with a shimmer reverb -- sounded kind of like a church organ -- and it was glorious, Same thing might work with the Mel, but kind of depends if it can track all the notes, which... I wouldn't be too surprised if it couldn't, esp. with the bar depressed way down low.
I have the Key 9 and love it as much as you love this! The Key 9 adds bass notes an octave down and does all the electric piano sounds along with a Hammond sound, steel drums and xylophone. Adds a whole new dimension to loops! Nice demo Dave.
Spotlight on Mr S stadium full of cheering fans could just picture the moment... Epic playing.. epic pedal, great to see and hear you are adding another dimension to your music and channel awesome stuff!👍🎸☺
Yea, I love that pedal. It’s one of their absolute best. Julian Baker is one of my favorite artists. “Turn Out the Lights” is such a brilliant album, that helped me through some really dark times. Phew! That intro gave me the chills btw. Awesome stuff!
I know absolutely nothing about pedals so this was really interesting. Thanks for your easily understandable demonstration. Glad to see you are having fun with your new toy.😃
I love your passion for this pedal. I'm using it in my keyboard rig. One of my first intro's to the Mellotron was "Court of the Crimson King" and I've been obsessed ever since, including owning a Mellotron 400. weighted a ton, hard to transport, the Mel 9 is soooo much easier and sounds true to the original. I think people just dont know how to use it, and you are truly getting an amazing sound, really inventive. You have wonder style and feel, shapeing each sound to maximize it's quality, and use the pedals sounds in the way it's designers had hoped musicians would. Bravo! Very impessive, the Mel 9 pedal AND you! Thank you for this video, I havent heard anyone use it to it's full potential like your doing.
Thank you Dave for this amazing review. You are the first person i saw who made music with this pedal instead of just fiddling around. I think i‘m gonna buy one too.
Fantastic ambient drones and ethereal dreaminess....brilliant...think maybe even Mr Flibble might be a bit happier too! lol ( can only imagine what this would be like with a looper...)
I own a mel9 and its loads of fun and expands your sound palette and what you can do with your guitar. As someone who makes thrash/symphonic metal, it serves as a live saver with getting an authentic orchestral sound, with just a guitar, instead of controlling midi samples with a keyboard.
morning dave got a feeling this year is going to be an amazing trip for you and the people that dig what you are doing hope you have your seat belt I have lol have a beautiful day
I love the Mellotron sound. Simultaneously epic and grungy Io-fi. I have one of these and an ocean machine delay/reverb. Instant moody soundscapes - It feels like I'm cheating.
I used to think I cheated using film software but someone pointed out to me that getting the best out of technology is an art in itself . You are not cheating merely using what's there in your own original way .
when he cuts his hair were all gonna have a have a funeral for it. this is a dope pedal man. You are the best person to thoroughly show what a pedal can do. The ones that i see the companies themselves do are always so uninspiring, always some guy with a musical degree and no soul.
Oh blimey, the opening just blew my mind through the roof, the rest kept me up there. Sounds like you're getting on mighty intimate terms with them Angels mate. Awesome, magnificent, glorious, majestic, the lot. Cheers. Enjoy peopletube.
Oh yeah, the pedal, I love the fact that it has the dry out, the effect through a big clean reverb-soaked amp and the straight guitar thru the regular effects and a raging Marshall would be epic... like that outro. You really are a great example of how when you discover a new really inspiring sound it takes you somewhere further than you've ever been.
It's quite satisfying to see someone discover something so great...Dave, brother.. that sounded so nice. I'm glad you found a new functional toy to add color to your pallet. Whether it's for the bedroom to loop or whatever, just know i'm living vicariously and love this pedal. I've owned the B9 by EHX and regret letting it go ever since (had to eat instead) anyway, cheers mate!!!..(that's appropriate, right? Im from Texas.) Happy for you, my dude. As my greatest living influence once said "Keep on jammin', man." I know you will. Nice to see you're enjoying that pedal.
Hey brother, great sounding tune once again! And you are 100% correct on the pedal. I got the B9 some months ago and it is flat, killer. I needed that Hammond B3 sound on some recordings and don't have a keyboard player around, so, these fit the bill. PS: Great interview w/Andertons. Blues-On brother Dave!
That was awesome Dave 👌🏻 love you to bits man but you’re seriously not good for my bank account 😂 think I might need one of these pedals 😍 keep up the great work dude, that was one of the most inspiring jams I’ve heard in a long while. Peace & Love ❤️
I just ordered one last week! Guitar Center sent me an email a day later telling me they didn't realize they were sold out and my delivery is delayed, so looks like I'll be waiting a while for mine. Awesome video btw, your video is the first one I've seen to show what it sounds like with distortion.
Of all the EHX Units in this range the MEL9 is the Most Natural sounding and goes very well with the Guitar especially Acoustic after compression and before Reverb it’s Incredible.. top Stuff Dave 👍🏻🌞⭐️❤️👍🏻
Yes finally, been waiting for this review ever since I heard it was used on the Strokes last album and couldn’t wait to see what you could do with it. Awesome pedal awesome guitarist
Probably the most creative demo I've seen. Plus some cool ideas. mel9 mounted on music stand-check. And some sort of distortion likely issuing from one of the stereo outputs.- check . Two amps - check. Someone who plays really good guitar - check. But even "D" level guitar players can watch and learn and be entertaining with the mel9 instead of boring without
I think it will sound better with your strat, great pedal and probably the best person to review it. I bet they have had a lot of hits after this vid. Nice one mate.
48 hours later: absolute game-changer for me - I understand completely what you mean by 'where have you been all my life' - Mel9 has filled the gap I never knew I had in my sound...I feel like I'm now a duo - with Mel by my side
HEY !I wanted to comment on the intro, but you've already said everything with your music. I relaxed and my tooth stopped hurting! So I'll just click "Like"
I know that if Dave does a video/review about anything guitar related it will answer all my questions about whatever is being demonstrated and then 70 more that I never knew I needed to ask
