Kurt used it for radio friendly unit shifter and the guitar solo for heart shaped box. also, the chorus setting sounds just like the small clone which was used on a lot of nirvana songs. Kurt used this pedal on the in utero tours from 1993-4.
My mistake...Cobain did have a PolyChorus, but he got that later. On Nevermind, its a Small Clone on songs like "LIthium" and in the solo of "Teen Spirit," for example.
just got mine today, i love the fact that they're big. it means less effects, which means you gotta learn to do more with less. not for everyone. Sounds amazing though!
My favourite Chorus among all the EHX (And the one I own) is the Stereo Electric Mistress You can have Flanger and Chorus at the same time, one knob for each individual depth and a rate knob. It also has the Deluxe Electric Mistress' Filter Matrix (The one in this pedal just didn't sound the same) Check it out, pretty inexpensive as well
I used to have one of these - best effects pedal I ever owned - lots of character and the original plugged straight into the mains too - wish I still had it.
Why does everybody think he didn't us a ds-2 until 1992. If you look at the paramount videos witch where filmed on holloween of 1991 he is clearly using a ds-2. But he did use a ds-1 and a rat to record never mind, cas well as the big muff.
@TheSkyLineBand1 filter matrix is a function that allows you to "freeze" the sweep of the modulation, creating an interesting metallic sound. with the filter matrix on, you can control the caracteristics of the freezed wave with the knobs.
@somethingintheway98 I'm not saying you're wrong necessarily, but I've been digging through all the information about every bit of equipment Nirvana ever used, and I've never heard that before.
Hey thanks man :) if there was more people in this world like you the world would be a better place :) so what pedals do you own? Do you own the small clone? Or the polychorus?
No problem :-). I only own the small stone which is a fantastic phaser pedal and i'm kind in the same situation you are, choosing beetween SC and PC. Well, the question is: do you need the filter matrix, the flanger and the echo you can add with the PC? If not I think the SC is enough for you. There is not much to say: you have to listen, try and compare the 2 models for the sound you are looking for...
I am new to guitar pedals and I have one question: for someone looking for a guitar orchestra and to create soothing ambient sounds to trip on- which EHX pedal would suit me best? This Polychorus Pedal? A Pog Pedal? A Hog Pedal? A Phaser?
And I forget the PC seems to be more difficult to approach because of all the settings. The SC is a complete chorus pedal with only one knob and death control which is cool if you search a chorus sound and don't want to stay on your knees all day! But that is my impression! Hope it helps... Byebye
@PAULisDEADMANnumber9 it doesn't mean that you have too its just that you can run it into two different amps for a richer chorus/flange etc. but you can plug into just one amp as well
since i don't have a lot of money to spend, i have to choose between this and the polycorus and the seamachine by earthquaker devices, please share your opinion with me, because i have no idea which one to choose
The polychorus is more complete than the small clone because you can add some echo to it and moreover it has a flanger, filter matrix and the echo alone. But it isn't a phaser at all (the small stone is for that)! So, you have to choose beetween the polychorus and the small clone (not the same budget...) but not beetween Clone+Stone and the Polychorus!
actually i looked up his rig and he DOES use a polychorus. and a small clone. and a ds-1. and sometimes a ds-2. and a DOD grunge for one show after throwing it into the audience.
@amourdutigre It's not hard to make that, but thats what i like about EHX the really big nobs(i have the holy grail and the polychorus) and for the slight adjustments in a song u can to that with ur feet. But if u want the foot-switch just ask some one with a little knowledge about electronics and iam sure he can fix that for ya
@PAULisDEADMANnumber9 I don't really think a look of a pedal is really that important at all, I mean the audience is probably not even going to see it, unlike you guitar.
@15381472 this! i think it is epic....i have had it 6 months and im still finding new great tones and effects i can get out of it to suit different songs :D don't get it if you play metal though....its much more for calmer styled music......great for some john frusciante old style playing and jimi hendrix.....namely little wing and under the bridge (outro) i love it and i can't sing it's prases enough!
