Dave, I'm convinced that Electro Harmonix has cooked up a sinister (and highly successful) conspiracy to continuously empty the wallets of all of us pedal geeks! Some of their pedals are now just short of some kind of mystical alchemy. But they so expand the palate of possibilities for what electric guitar is capable of - which, in turn, spurs on our creativity. I remember back in the early '80s when synthesizers were suddenly making keyboards capable of emulating all manner of instruments, from flute to sax to weirdly beyond - and I was truly jealous. But now that such wonders are available to us six-stringers - well, the sky's the limit!
@@philipatoz check out the msi guitar organ from the 70s, samurai guitarist did a video on it. its astonishing the amount of tech in those things, i wish they still sold them commercially
I think Dave is IMHO the most inspiring guitarist on the tube, compared to others, not that's its a comparison, he has used practically the same set up since I've been following him and knows his sound, the band are awesome just wish they gigged in Scotland.
I’ve had all the 9 series (except this newest one) and my favorite two are the Mel9 and the Synth9, but this sounds amazing. I swear they’re like Pokémon, “gotta catch them all”. Hope you’re well my friend and great video per usual!!!
I'm seriously thinking about getting this String9. I've been comparing these types of vids to the Synth9 and I'm leaning more towards the String9 for some reason.
Hopefully you re-entered the earth’s atmosphere shortly after this video was completed😂😊. Great demonstration, put on by a performer/musician/guitarist/child lovingly locked in a toy shop indefinitely. You deserve a nice walk and some rest, mate. Thank you for your dedication to excellence. Cheers/ Slainte. 🎸👨🏼⚕️🫶✌️♾️. 🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸
DAVE SIMPSON - - YOU ARE A GOOD MAN - stay that way too - Good to watch your videos -- I am here for you on RU-vid - with many videos - as "HOLLYWOOD" JOE or Joe Nania
Have the Mel9 and use it far more than I ever thought I would. This one does seem to have different and distinctive voicings sounds awesome! maybe a future addition me thinks :) Great vid Dave cheers!
Damnit - I must have it - I have the Mel 9 the B9 organ, their Chorus, big muff and intelligent harmoniser (their one pedal I haven’t really bonded with). And just when I thought I am done buying more pedals - you are a very very bad man Mr. Simpson keeping us all broke!
Excellent. Mind you, I'm (confession time) foremost a keys and synth player anyway, so the combo of guitar and strings (or mellotron etc) appeals to me. Going to share this on my FB though, as a few of my friends are very traditionalist guitarists, some of whom don't even believe in using alt tunings and capos, so this will really annoy them! 😏Have a great weekend sir.
Good call mate, I love being the wind up merchant with the traditional guitarists as you mentioned that don’t entertain the thought of using new or alternative devices that can add so much to creativity and mix of sounds filling out songs and adding so many more textures, colour, characteristics and overall timbre to your sounds, which if your a songwriter and produce your own songs surely that’s what music is about developing new sounds & ideas and coming up with new ideas, it is for me anyway. I usually find the people like you mention who don’t or can’t adapt to gear and technology are the ones who only want to sound exactly like and play like people like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hendrix or Page to name a couple, they have exactly the same pedals and setups as their idols and only want to play exactly the same, and if you ask them to write their own song or create their own guitar part to a song they struggle to do it!! Usually they’re great players when playing other people’s songs but can’t do it when writing their own songs.
Interesting pedal! I have a Digitech X-Series SynthWah Envelope Filter SWX that makes synth sounds. I originally got it to be an auto-wah, but discovered it can be a fuzz/distortion pedal as well as cool synth sounds. I need to check out a video on the EHX Mel 9
I was going to get this pedal quite soon, but yesterday after seeing the Andertons vid, I'm thinking of going with the Strymon Cloudburst. Would love to hear you playing with that, it would be pure euphoria!
Hi dave .I donot think Electro Harmonix make a bad pedel .This one sounds great. My favorite would be the Grand Canion and the Ravis Sitar but alas way out of my price range . Plus the wife would kill me if i spend any more money on guitar products
Love my Mel 9 and just purchased this. Only thing that I wish Electroharmonix would've done was made it with a silent foot switch on these pedals. I perform at lower volumes for small audiences and it just sounds clunky and takes away the surprise to my listeners.
Think Strymon are in the battle too now. Check out the new Cloudbuster, they have defo taken concept of some of these 9 pedals. The Andertons demo is amazing, and by sound quality I'd defo go the Strymon over the 9's
Wonder what it would sound like thu my Elec piano/ keyboard..I run mine thu an Electro Harmoneix B-9 & JOYO D- SEED delay & it sounds great...String 9 is on my short list...Thanks.
You become a bagpiper again Dave...I honestly believe it was what you did in a past life! Those pedals give you the drones and the guitar is the chanter in essence! That first setting should be called Phantom of the Opera!
Dave, can we please get cici to do a bass video on this pedal, all I’m finding are horrible bass videos of this pedal, and I know she can do it justice
Thanks Dave, great video!! I like the band Interpol, which pedal from the 9 series would be the best for me? (check the end of "Hands away" and "PDA") Thanks!!
Well...... Thats me working overtime to buy one of those bad boys then!!!!! Sounds amazing, thanks Dave!!! Ps. Have you got any BlueWhale pedals, hand made in Cornwall?
Nice vid! And five of the 9-series to go Dave. Maybe a deal with Lee to demo each pedal for the Andertons canal and de payment is the pedal itself. Everybody happy. I will 😄
Dave, thanks for this video here, Have you ever tried the foot pedal that sounds Just like a Hammond Organ? i bought one 4 years ago, and it is Great, it sounds just like a Hammond, I was surprised, try one out, It is a Electro - Harmonix B9 Organ Machine,,, Keep on Rockin Brother, Cousin Figel
@@castleanthrax1833 It is A Electro- Harmonix B9 Organ Machine, I do not know if they still make them , But I love mine , it sounds Great, I bought mine when they first came out, Cousin Figel
Dave, WHAT exact setting combination of the 4 knobs and what setting VOX FREEZE ? SYMPHONIC ? JUNE - O ? AARP ? gets it to a natural sounding orchestra ? --- Help !
@thedavesimpson Dave hi. I found several customer reviews complains because many times they cannot get “on” the pedal even with the original power supply. Some even sent the pedal to EHX to be “repaired” but the problem remains. I am afraid to buy one. Have you had this problem with any of your EHX series 9 pedals ?
@@thedavesimpson thank you for your response. I feel I would be flipping a coin 😬. I like so much how you amaze, and the places you go while you play. I hope one day I can meet you in some of those places.
Oh weird, I saw the intro of this video, paused and went to the Thomann site and checked pricing, then I watched EHX own pedal demo posted upon launch last year (Bill Ruppert), realized I had watched it before and paused it at like 3/4 completion, where I probably went to the Thomann site and checked pricing, realizing it wasn't out yet, and promptly forgot about it. Until NOW! You devil. You evil sheep. You're in league with Thomann aren't you?
How does it track with fast continuous strumming , acoustic guitar etc. I’m a one man’s band playing in bars, would it be suitable to blend in a little with the acoustic still being 90% of the sound?
Awesome demonstration my brother…. You made that pedal seriously speak multi languages, now I must add it to my board. 🥹Also, What kind of drum machine were you using?
a truly diverse pedal, but i can't really see it being a thing you would spend a lot of time using for live situations. maybe the novelty would wear off rather soon but for your current musical direction with the Trio, i don't really see a future album developing from it. - could be wrong though - of course it's entirely your choice Dave so go with your flow 😁
