This was great Mr Ruel, perhaps you should make a video differentiating the chemical cell & electrolytic cell, I’m sure many would benefit from it. Great vid tho!

Great Video, I just have one question. Hypothetically, if we had a Mg and Zn simple cell (one beaker) in a dilute acid, would the electrons on Mg go to Zinc or would the Mg react and reduce the H+ ions in the acid instead. I am presuming Mg would directly reduce H+ because Zinc is more reactive than Hydrogen. Also there is a bigger difference in reactivity between H+ and Mg too. ???????

Hi sir....i dont understand the video clip for 4:32.....if the electrons flow from the anode to cathode...then shouldnt the anode be in positive terminal and cathode should be the negative terminal? Because u put that the direction of electron flow is from zinc to copper.

Hi Hannah. Electrons do not flow from positive to negative terminal. Current flows from positive to negative terminal. Electron is a negatively charged particle and flows in the opposite direction to current (negative to positive).

Voltaic cell refers to a combination of two half-cells using a salt bridge or porous pot. It is a type of chemical cell. The chemical cell that is made using two different metals dipped into the same electrolyte is referred to as a "simple chemical cell".
