How molecules absorb? Tiny electrons can catch the energy and jump to higher energy levels which brings the absorption. But all these electrons are same? No, within a organic molecule mainly three types of electrons can bring four types of electronic transitions. Here in this video, we will discuss, different types of electronic transitions, how they are formed and what is their energy order.

Why is the excited state referred to as LOW ENERGY unoccupied molecular orbital? Shouldn't the excited state be high energy?
@egpat

It is the lowest energy among the unoccupied orbitals which is first filled by electronic transition.

How come p orbital sir There must be sp3 orbital between 2 carbons Head to head overlapping produces sigma bond?
@egpat
@egpat 4 года назад
A sigma bond can be formed by interaction of two p orbitals where they can form both bonding and antibonding molecular orbitals. But when it comes to the case of bond between carbon and carbon it should be sp3, sp2 or sp . Since we have shown carbon there the example was ignored now. We will come about bonding and antibonding orbitals in detail in our next video. Thank you for interest.

Sir i have read somewhere that uv region range is from 200-400 nm and visible region is from 400-700 nm But you said ki below 200 it is uv region? Please clear my doubt
@amishamishra6156
@amishamishra6156 4 года назад
At 8:10 where you were telling about sigma to sigma Transition.. you said these types of transients are going to fall within the region of less than 200 but why sir please clear my doubt.. It is Same doubt sir in both comments
@egpat
@egpat 4 года назад
Real UV region is from 200-400 nm but radiation below 200 nm can be called as vacuum UV region which is from 10-200 nm. In this region many of the solvents will absorb radiation so practically we can not use this region for spectral analysis. In this region we mainly observe sigma to sigma* and n to sigma* transitions. Hope it is clear now. Thank you.
@rockylogesh1646
@rockylogesh1646 4 года назад
Actually he said....below 200 is vaccum uv region....above 200 is uv-visible region (that covers visible 400-700 too)

What is electronic transitions in the N-H molecules?
@egpat
@egpat 3 года назад
Between the N-H, sigma bond is present and lone pair of electrons on nitrogen So they can undergo sigma to sigma* and n to sigma* transitions.
