I've liked John Foxx for ages and I'm pleased to hear him praising Phaedra, that is a magical album loved that for ages too. I don't often hear people praise Simple Minds so was very pleased, New Gold Dream is the one for me, but I also loved "I Travel" from Empires and Dance.

New Gold Dream is so good. I’ve been listening to it a lot in the last few years, like it’s new again or something. It really deserves more praise.

Totally agree with John about Simple Minds especially circa Reel to Real\Empires/Sister Feelings call era. Such great experimentation and words. What a pity they went arena rock.

John, thank you so much for all the wonderful music you've created over the past 47 years, since I first heard you. My daughter, a classical bassoonist, because of my love of your music, inspired her career and it means so much to me that she fell in love with your music. It shows the staying power of your imagination and your craft. God bless you sir, a friend from Texas.

The best synth record in my opinion is still Living Ornaments 1979 by Gary Numan, it has the pure energy of the movement.

John remains my greatest inspiration. His appraisal of Kraftwerk...a stunning statement. I would never have thought of his perspective. Brilliant. True. Perfect. He's unique.

OMG Telstar this freaks me out (though I know it by the Tornadoes not the Shadows?) ....first time I heard it it felt so deeply familiar that i'm convinced I heard it in utero, being born in the 60s). It is sad yet magnificent , open space possibilities yet a sad wise heart. Could listen to/read JF interviews all day, always something to chew on

Love his assessment of kraftwerk vs. their earlier psychedelic stuff. What a mind what insight. Early simple minds is the heads choice and their early work is only now getting props

I love listening to John Foxx talking about eletronic evolution and sound mashines revolutionised the entire world, but he never mentioned a single word about David Bowie how creative he was by representing electronial music in early seventes, in cooparation with Brian Eno. The important albems from David Bowie: " Low and Hero" had a great impact on his admirers all around the world.

Talking about 'Tomorrow Never Knows' John is not quite correct that it was all about George Martin, while he undoubtedly used his technical genius to implement the ideas - Paul McCartney was the one who actually went out and recorded and then brought all the tape loops to the studio that were used on that track...
@keriford54
@keriford54 7 лет назад
I second that, I think Bill Burroughs used McCartney's tape recorder, there were cut ups and tape loops in the air.

What is the film he mentions around 8:45, the one of which he says "you never forget the first time you see that film"?
@DocFrobnitz

Thanks, Jeff... stacking French intonation on top of a British accent pushed that right out of comprehension for me. (I didn't know Bowie had showed the film on tour... I first heard of it from a Pixies song.)

It's Luis Bunuel's Le Chien Andalou. Bowie showed it at his 1976 Station to Station tour.

It was quite a weird experience. The film was shown before the show and it caused a bit of a stir, especially the scene where the eye was slit open. He then strolled on to the strains of Station to Station.
