When Daniel demos an instrument I make sure I check it out. I love how intuitive his approach is to exploring a synth. He always nails musically how do demo each sound. Its a great blend of musicianship and technical acumen. Fisher is a Sweetwater gem. Based on his initial review, Im going to give this Elektron unit a serious look. Love the sounds and creative potential.

My ear has been tuned into analog subtractive synthesis lately - and for the last decade...but this has a refreshing tonality. It's anti-suspersaw EDM :). As I was telling a buddy, we shouldn't simply think Whitney Houston and Steve Winwood Higher Life when thinking FM and DX7. The moody but punchy Depeche Mode "Violator" was riddled with FM from the DX7. As was Front 242 Tragedy/Tyranny for You. If you want to start a Front 242 cover band, get 2 DX7's and an Emulator.

Great demo of what it is capable of. I had the digitone without the keys and struggled with the menu diving although loved the sounds.

Hi Rik. I certainly get it. Putting the parameters of the Synth/Seq module above the keys would make it less wide, but more deep. The Digitone Keys fits nicely on my desk like all my other controller keyboards did. It also allows it to work with X-stands, and stands with V-arms. Part of the problem is that, when you look at a picture of it, it seems much more wide than it really is. If you watch me play it you can see that I can reach everything quickly and easily. I get it and I think that all the ones out there complaining are the actual idiots that they seem to think the designers at Elektron are for creating this supposed "monstrosity."

But people gave that design plenty of hate as well. It's just Elektron being Elektron. Seems like every new product gets hate and then people realize the machines are amazing.

I will get a Digitone as soon as I put the money together. And even though I'm not a fan of the looks on the Digitone Keys, I totally would go for it if it wasn't so expensive. The keyboard, additional encoders, buttons and outputs seem to make it much more directly approachable.

I bought one. It was totally worth it. I own the SFX-6 as well so I’m a massive fan of the quick keyboard key to step sequencing that is so unique and usable to get quick ideas out. The only feature that ruffles my feathers is the awkward sound pool setup for each project that needs to be organized for maximum step per noise variety. The percussive tracks elements to this synth are extremely liberating. But the synth is complex and needs constant monitoring as you tweak it. It’s a wild horse basically. A horse made of sine waves. I don’t understand the low appeal that seems to be for this synth. Maybe because it’s too deep. Too abstract.

Yeah, if you've got a good MIDI controller (like an Arturia Keystep) you don't need the keys. You'll just be missing the knobs.

The keys with aftertouch, mod wheels, arp buttons and others with the extra knobs create a exponentially swift live editing potential. And the live key to step sequence step recording is unbeatable.

@@weatherkop Yeah, it seems kinda expensive but at the same time pretty worth it. I'll be getting a Digitakt first probably. I already have a Volca FM so I can already do some FM sounds (though I know the two are not comparable at all). I'm still an FM newbie so it'll be a while before I consider getting a Digitone (plus my wallet isn't phat enough for it or the Digitakt).

Very different This is more of a beat box tool with the sequencer and audio / midi outputs, but the modx has more sounds Not that I can afford either 😁

I guess would be a good companion in the studio to of course the digitakt but also an MPCX OR MASCHINE MK3 I’d take this and perform live with my MPCLIVE
