Due to the forward motor mount setup of Stealth XF transmission, the battery tray is mounted aft of the transmission which I am not a big fan of, as it hurts the overall weight distribution. So today, I am going to tackle a quick and simple FREE battery tray relocation mod to improve weight distribution by wopping 5% (YMMV pending the battery size) simply by relocating the battery tray from the rear to the front. Nice move. I love to strip them down and just relocate everything!! Get rid of electronics box, Can’t decide lately if I like battery up from it on slider. You are the best at showing and justifying your mods online!!!!

Thanks. Battery location is really dependent on weight distribution. The bigger the battery size, the front end work well. I have quite few vehicles with smaller battery that I mount the battery on the side.

What about flipping the transmission around and putting the battery in the front fender slots already cut out?

You could probably do it, but it defeats the purpose of front facing transmission where it puts the motor weight more forward. Additionally this setup allows interior to fit. There are a few methods of moving the battery forward with SOA setup. I just did the easiest and simplest method for the viewers. Eventually, I will be adopting a bit more aggressive method for my rig.

There are several better options in relocating the battery. The video is one example, but there are others. You definitely want to move it from the current location though. Also make sure to use smaller sized batteries. I normally run 1300mAh 3s battery, and that provides good balance of weight vs. runtime.

Yes, it does. I mention it on the video. It raises CG slightly, but the gains on weight distribution is huge. To be able to get to 59/41 without adding brass to front is just amazing. I will be swapping out the current battery to smaller 3s lipo battery, so the change in weight distribution should be slightly less though.

Cool mod but why did the total weight go up if all you did was move it to the front?

After the video, I noticed that overall weight went up by 7 grams. I am a little baffled by it as well. The only thing that I added were 4 body pin pull tabs, but that should not be 7 grams. The only other explanation might be that my table is slightly warped, so it's possible that position of the scale might impact slight weight variations.

It will not. Plus you don't want to be putting that heavy battery so high up. I find that I get plenty of runtime with smaller batteries (just carry one or two extras) so try avoid using the bigger batteries if you can.
