Elephants in a herd are not afraid of people. That "fisherman", or "fisherMEN" must have had some unique method of frightening the hell out of them. I wonder what he/they did? Strange video. Why didnt they film the "fisherman?" I guess, at least, the elephants were unharmed, and had an escape route. But that poor little baby ellie, keeping up so well with the adults. Such a brave little tyke.
I've just checked. Some tourist cottages are right there - Malamo Umoyo Cottages, Zambia. Geez, wildlife have to negotiate humans everywhere these days. The staff probably didn't want the herd destroying the cottages, or hurting any tourists, so they probably have a very well developed strategy for 'moving them on' when necessary.
@@fablewalls oh really? I didn't know that. In captivity people beat them and use those hooks to control them yet they have quite sensitive skin. Poor ellies. They need their own planet away from humans. Oh and lions and rhinos and pangolins and gorillas and marine life too. I hope a lot of humans are planning to go to Mars. They need to send the poachers there first!
@@ksc743 - ah, you mean those horrible elephant hooks? Yes, they hook around an elephant's ears. African bees target elephant ears too. I've seen how African farmers are being encouraged to keep elephants away from crops by using bee recordings. Safer for the elephants than farmers using guns or arrows.
@@fablewalls definitely safer. A good idea. Although I must say, that noise (of the bees) would drive me insane if I had to hear it constantly!! I can't even stand the sound of one fly or mozzie😨 but I really hope it works. This human/wildlife conflict is a real problem. If only wealthy people in the world would get involved, but they're too busy getting wealthier. It has been proven that electric fencing is the most effective - to prevent lions and elephants from killing livestock and raiding villages, but then the fences needs to be patrolled. To my mind that would create employment for many villagers: working as security rangers. But somehow nothing ever gets done in Africa.
Weird seeing them escape idk why they would run just from seeing a random dude but meh Actually a very calm and smooth operation of them on that rather steep incline, I was amazed how well they got the baby up, seen a lot of videos with a WAY less steep incline and babies struggling for minutes on end
Hey Menno Witteveen, do you have an email address at which we could contact you regarding this video? We would be interested to discuss a license to use this video if this is generally possible? (i.e. via email) :) Cheers, Felix
They are all strong individuals with personalities who have relationships of various types with the other social elephants J C Sometimes I envy elephants and wish I could be reincarnated as an elephant but they need to be better protected from the bad apples living amongst the human race

There were tourist cottages right there on the river. My guess is the staff have proven methods of 'moving on' the elephants. Whatever it is, it scared the hell out of them. Elephants scared by a 'fisherman' - my foot!!
Thank you!
The description says a "fisherman" scared them away. I've yet to see one man scare a herd of elephants, unless he shot at them with a rifle. Whatever those humans did, they scared the hell out of those poor elephants, babies and all😡😢
What a task for the young mom! The calf learnt an important survival lesson! They are totally dependent on their mothers for learning, nourishment and care. Got this teaser of an upcoming animation movie about an elephant calve facing poachers - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6b6QfkdX1_8.html
Your teaser hits a spot! Poaching is terrorism on wildlife that need to be dealt with just as harshly as the one the world is facing today! Waiting for APPU movie to release!
Not nice of you..stupid fisherass !!!!.why did you do that?????why did U let them run that fast?? They had also babys with them you ....ggghhhrrr...!!!!???.
The local people fish there. No fish means nothing to eat. The elephants just started to run. You can not blame the local people. This incident typically shows the conflict between wildlife and men.
