Witness the remarkable improvement in handling qualities as I showcase the upgraded Freewing MiG-29 with thrust vectoring nozzles. Discover how this modification elevates the RC plane's maneuverability and performance!
In this video, you will experience how with the thrust vectoring upgrade I overcame various obstacles known to the Freewing MiG-29 to finally achieve outstanding flight capabilities. High alpha lock is no longer an issue! Join me as I demonstrate the enhanced flight characteristics and we can discuss the modifications made to ensure optimal performance in the comments section. :)
Gear up for an exhilarating experience with the Freewing MiG-29, and gain insights into my setup, including detailed mods, reinforcement techniques, and electronic rewiring! Feel free to ask me if you want to learn more about the specific changes I made to improve the performance and enhance structural integrity. All the components, batteries, ESCs, servos, receivers, play a part and contribute to the MiG-29's outstanding performance!
Don't miss out on this thrilling demonstration of the upgraded Freewing MiG-29!
These were Anežka's flights 233rd to 235th.

-----------------------------------------------
Regarding my MiG-29 setup:
QUICK LIST OF MODS
- CG 15mm behind factory marks on the wings.
- Reflex trailing edge by 3mm flaps, 5mm ailerons (aprox).
- Reinforced stab assemblies to torsion (Epoxy - thick glass fiber laminate).
- Reinforced stabs to prevent deformation (WBPU - thin glass fiber laminate, 18g/m2).
- Replaced stab servos by Corona DS-238MG.
- Replaced stab linkages by 4-40 threaded rod with heavy duty Du-Bro ball links.
- Removed stock BEC.
- Installed separate 20A UBEC that runs from a standalone receiver battery (2S 610mAh).
- Installed ferrite chokes on ESC-Rx leads (next to ESC) and on the stab servo leads (next to servo).
- I am using the old FrSky Redundancy Bus for everything except landing gear, lights, and everything that goes through the ribbon cables (ailerons, flaps, gear doors), as these need to go through the BB.
- Shortened some of the wires, as I installed the RBus in the aft battery compartment.
- Removed the toe out on the main landing gear struts by filing the chamfer on the axle pin that connects strut with retract.
I was concerned about the structural integrity of the stabs, and stab assembly so I did reinforce them with glass fiber cloth, which is part of the reason why it took me so long to get the jet ready. I'm not a fan of working with composite materials so I procrastinated a bit, lol. After my reinforcement mods, the stabs seem to be much more solid now. 💕
I took many of the 'well-known' ideas and good practices about this model recommended by other pilot-owners on forums such as RCGroups and HobbySquawk including adding reflex to the flaps and ailerons to maximize top speed and reduce trim drag (unloading the stabs in the process quite a bit) and I replaced the taileron servos by tougher ones, and the taileron linkages by 4-40 pushrods, and FWIW, also installed ferrite chokes on the ESCs leads to the rx as well as the taileron servo leads (to mention a few of the changes).
I also made my own 'quite personal' installation of the electronics and basically rewired the whole thing, changed the placement of the components, added a 20A UBEC, redundancy bus, 2x X8R receivers, the list goes on.

Hi, do you launch with thrust vectoring enabled for the elevator? I'm wondering if it can help or not because I have troubles to launch on my grass field
@RC4ever
@RC4ever 12 дней назад
Yes, I have the vectored nozzle active always, and yes, they should help rotating earlier, but you may also want to check your CG. Should better be at least 15mm behind the factory marks.

@@RC4ever thanks, I'll check. What ratio do you use for nozzle movement, 1:1 or something else. Not sure how to describe it properly, but for example when you move the elevator, the nozzles servo weight is the same or smaller?
@RC4ever
@RC4ever 11 дней назад
@mariuszabedzki6446 You mean exponential, I use the same expo for control surfaces and nozzles, typically in the order of 60-80% when using full mechanical deflections

Stunning! How do you like it compared to the SU-35? Would you say it’s worth to have them both?
@RC4ever
@RC4ever 11 месяцев назад
Definitely yes! They are very different!

I still kinda prefer the Su-35 overall. More power, more controllability. But the 29's sheer size and weight allow it to pull some moves in a way that most EDFs around would be found wanting. There's some truth to the 'bigger is better' argument. Well, certainly not necessarily better, but it does convey full-scale behavior more accurately :)
