An incomparably fascinating look at the inner workings of a 1915 winding-drum elevator with a super-modern 1951 electronic "brain" controlling the action. All of this equipment will be replaced over the next 10 weeks. Filmed February 1, 2010.

You are a nut!!! I laughed through the whole video with the comments you made! REALLY FUNNY!!! I enjoyed watching this! Wish it was longer and you had shown more of the "futuristic" controls! VERY NICE!!!

The machine and it's controller board should be placed in a Museum this is historical elevator machinery. I used to work near a building which had an Otis winding drum elevator installed in the early 1900's. The motor had to be rebuilt after going up and down for 89 years. But back in service running like a watch!

Beautiful Commentry. You'd be good at doing Baseball Calling. Serious, if you can create excitment like this, you can do wonders with sport.

Nice, 8 power contactors and DC motor... It regulates motor current using power resistors. Like in an old tram.

Sacrilege!!!! How could they? I would happily have this on my run. The new one likely won't go 20 years.... Thanks for posting.

The one in Victoria B.C. was not built 120 years ago, that would put its installation date at 1892. I worked for the company who does what they call ''elevator maintenance'' be for changing to a different company. I can say that running like a clock is going a little far. It really should be removed from service and modernized.

Judging from the slow mode just before stopping, that's a double speed AC machine a.k.a. AC/2. No MG-set thus not DC.

What it the blinking red light on the relay control rack for. Seems it flashes when the car is moving. Thanks

Boring, no. This was cool. A shame to see old electronics go away.

Another elevator to get raped...uhh....modernized. Where I am, there's an original (to a point) 1949 Otis Winding Drum Elevator. Only things modded were the control panels (with "very rare" ADAMS Fixtures), and a new phone installed over the summer. Other that that, it's mechanically original, and with speeds so blistering, it's well known as "Speedy" here on RU-vid.
