he is not uderrated, he is unknown. I can tell that he has a lot of respect from everyone in the industry, and that everyone who gets to know him becomes an instant fan. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
How these guys never blew up, is beyond me. They told Led Zeppelin they'd tank like one. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise. I appreciate the people that appreciate 11. But not as much as I appreciate 11. This is some timeless genius that many rockers won't experience. Spread the word.
They certainly are talented and skilled enough, but imho several things are causal: in that era, a Lot of bands blew up. Secondly, mainstream producers probably thought they weren't marketable enough in those times. But to me it seems this is also why they remained pure to their music in stead of what would be hitmaking. Some of the best bands are probably underground/side stream, but we don't get to hear them on the bought radio airtime.
Fuck, who knows. They certainly tanked I suppose. One of my faves of the day. On one hands it's nice to know that some of the secret cooler than shit bands was allowed to remain a private indulgence, but sad that their dreams weren't fulfilled. Another of my period faves was Morphine, another 3 piece that gained a notoriety, and while they may have gone way further, the sadness of their arc was shortened by largely predictable events I guess. A certain interesting departure event marking the end for sure.
I know, I was late teens/early 20's during that time and I don't remember hearing them back then. I probably would have bought their album if I heard this song at that time.
What a band!!! This was Alain's best band since What Is This? back in the 80's in L.A. He and Natasha had a great chemistry together on many levels. This was great music, heavy hitting, psychedelic, very original and it ROCKED to boot! Alain is a very creative guitarist and his Jack Bruce-like vocals are a big plus too! Love how Natasha could make that organ swirl, smoke and conjure up all kinds of mysterious colors! RIP Natasha, you are indeed missed here!
I love this song (and band) just as much, if not more today, than the very first time I heard it on the radio. Powerful, honest, real music. This live version is beyond belief. R.I.P. Natasha.
OmIGOD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT? No fucking justice that this AWESOME band didn't get the recognition they so richly deserved! Tears welling up. R.I.P. Natasha! A truly great, unique musician & vocalist. Fucking Heartbreaking.
I'll never forget seeing this live on Conan... I went to every music store in town the next day looking for their album with no luck. Had to have been 94-95. Such a great song!
Back in summer ‘94 I was working second shift and saw this episode (Conan?) after I got home. I went out to the mall the very next day and bought what was, apparently, the only cassette (no CD in stock) they had in stock at Tape World (lol). When I brought it to the counter the girl said “Where did you find that? People have been asking for it all day!” I said “Under ‘E’.” I guess I wasn’t the only one in my area who’d seen the episode the night before, but one of the few who knew the word “Eleven” starts with an “E.”
I like this a lot...just learning of this band from research into Them Crooked Vultures which Alain Johannes also plays. I didn't realize he had such a good voice. Reminds me of Corey Glover....
Just started listening to this, and there is something about alaines's voice and playing thats just so much rawer and dirtier than any other rock song ive heard.
I bought this on cassette the day after seeing this on TV in 1994. The music store only had one copy in stock and it was on cassette. I wore it out. The performed another song, maybe Towers?
They did some great work with Chris Cornell. I saw them in 1999 and Natasha had horribly dyed black hair, but she swayed to "Pillow of Your Bones" when she played, and it was awesome!
I remember this seeing this performance at the time on Conan. It's cut off here; but, at the end Conan comes out and shakes each musician's hand. When he approached Jack Irons, Jack picked Conan up over his shoulder, only Conan kept going with a full somersault over Jack's shoulder. Jack is so much shorter; and seeing Conan's lanky frame go flying head over heals with them both crashing to the floor was hilarious.
I was in Chris cornell concert in Berlin,Euphoria Mourning...with Alain Johannes and Natasha Schneider ...what an unforgettable moment..RIP Chris and Natasha😢❤
In the spirit of Henry Miller, I was just thinking of her, but more of how she plays the organ than a literal Henry Miller thought. I also just remembered many years ago on a little note card, the very quote I gave to her: she treasured. It was a quote about music. A quote from Henry Miller's Tropic of Capricorn from a little bug. Do you remember? RIP N.S.
This is one of the greatest bands of all time. One can only wonder why millions of albums were not sold. All 5 albums are killer. If you don't have them buy them. I love these guys. Thank you Alain, Natassha for such beauty.
Friday Dec. 16,2011 Chris Cornell sang to Natasha's original piano recording of ''When im down''. Chris had a vase of flowers next to the record player as he sang a song so beautiful. Its like she was right there with him.
Alain is a cool dude. I had him as a friend on MySpace. At the time I couldn't find their first album, as it was out of print, and I couldn't even find it on the web. He was nice enough to have Natasha send me a link to download the songs. I didn't know that Natasha was sick at the time, and would pass away a few months later. God bless her. I saw Eleven in the mid 90's open for Soundgarden at the Armory in NYC.
I found out about these guys as a kid watching him demo the Line 6 Variax guitar online when they were the new hot shit. Then I got into Mark Lanegan when I was 16 and saw his name on the credits of Bubblegum and immediately remembered him. Just one of the most badass motherfuckers to ever rock, period.
