For any younger Gen Z or Gen Alpha viewers wondering why this and 99% of 90's shounen and shounen-like works in this era had any tournament of some sort, during the 90's Japanese recession and after the success of the World Martial Arts Tournament arc in the original Dragon Ball, the Japanese government passed legislation stating that every combat series was to have a tournament arc of some sort due to the incredible economic impact it had on the Country. The law was repealed in the year 2006 after being unenforced since the end of the recession. This why there were no further tournament arcs past the 90's. Hope this info helped!
