Camille is one of the kind. I cried through the first movement, which has never happened for me before. Hope I had been in the concert to experience this personally.
So many time ago that I don't cry listening to a performance, you achieve it Camille. Wonderful, you make magic beyond the notes and that's what the audience love while seeing you oy and listening ening your music. Continue shinning.
Grand merci madame Thomas.
Elgar concerto equals Du Pre, for me. I love her. This is the first time I have ever listened to this masterpiece from a cellist other than Du Pre. I had the strange feeling that she was listening together with me. Thank you. I wish I listened to you in the concert hall. 😘
I agree completely with you. was about to write something similar but I have tried to listen to other performances but give up on them till now, well said Sir.
I agree Selcuk. "Hilary and Jackie" is one of my favourite movies for this reason. Camille, I think, does a great job of investing similar levels of emotion as Jacqueline Du Pre did.
It is the first time I am hearing this Masterpiece... and already in Lobo for it... Ms Camille Thomas has the brilliant and amazing of make me fall in love for the music she plays... She falls in love for the cello and after that, it's contagious... She is perfect playing cello... It is so different to have a teenager girl music student of cello (starting at the age 6/7 years old,) Camille Thomas was one of the cellist that I said the show hear it... She loves classics... And I already am proud mother... But when I hear Camille playing cello like this, my hearts beats faster... Maybe... Who knows?! My love to all and please stay safe. Susana from Porto, Portugal
Thank you. Watched it on tv. A very passionate performance of Elgar’s concerto. Love Elgar and watched this concerto performed many times by great Jacqueline du Pre. Camille Thomas has her own touch and I loved it very much. Shared of course.
Splendida! Appassionata! Beautiful! Passionate! Touching!.. What more can we say about this wonderful Camille?
A truly moving performance giving a strangely personal reading to a masterpiece that has been played and recorded, often live, by countless great soloists, conductors and orchestras. This can stand comparison with them all from Jacquie du Pre to Yo Yo Ma, to……whoever. Bravo bravissimo
Magnificent! Gloriously solemn and somber, your heartfelt performance beautifully combines long mournful passages with bursts of protest in the form of a more vigorous spirit. The first half is my favorite, as it mixes these elements to the best effect, and it has my single favorite part starting at 1:45 or so. Just superb, thank you. 😍🤩
yes, loved this Elgar from the beginning. I used to play the opening on my viola....learning to read bass clef on the viola! She just performed it w/LA phil a few days ago. Douglas viola, piano, organ, guitar recorders and poet of SD CA
Wow, since Jacquline Du Pre I haven't cried as much as I did with your interpretation, neither YoYo Ma nor Sol Gabeta nor Turls Mork conveyed to me what you did. What a brave way to get the notes out of those strings, please keep it up.
Different interpretations. To take a short piece as example, listen in youtube to the popular Saint-Saens piece: Hauser "The Swan", Camille "Saint-Saens Le Cygne - ZDF - Weinachten mit dem Bundespräsident". Matter of taste, in general, I better like Camille. Each note get its own load, its own vibrato while Hauser is smoother. But in the case of this Elgar concerto, Camille is more sober than others.
What is knocking all the time? Very disturbing. Sad to See that throughout your career you started pressing the bow. Pretty Sure that this is not what Stephan Forck teaches 😬 but your confidence is impressive! Congrats!
But what the hell are these people who are coughing between one movement and another?
@richardandaya3932 Parts of this performance make my eyes water, and I am only listening to it. If I were able to play it what might happen? Perhaps you should try to empathise with the artist?
