Hi Lon, First off, amazing video and comparison. The best we’ve seen yet. We just wanted to comment on 2 things. For your test with the MacBook Air, this may be resolved if you run Game Capture software with Cam Link attached once. Cam Link has 2 different modes it can use, a Windows mode and a Mac mode (if you want to be specific, Windows = “Bulk mode” and Mac = “isochronus mode”. Each of these modes work much better on their perspective platform, and running our software on that platform with the Cam Link attached will switch it over. I think if you do this you may see an improvement to the stutter you mention in the video. And for the build quality, we aimed to make the Cam Link lightweight so when you use it directly plugged in, you risk no damage to the ports - we take this even further by including the small extender with Cam Link if people prefer that option (also helps if you’re using multiple Cam Links so your USB ports aren’t crowded). We aimed to really make Cam Link a dongle/part of your camera’s cable rather than a whole other device you have to find a place for in your setup. Just wanted to mention those 2 tidbits, but again, fantastic review and explanation over what our product provides and how it compares to others on the market! -Jeff
phillip hall if you want to use your iPad as a monitor there’s an app called Duet Display which works very well. It costs a fair bit (£15 in the UK) but is pretty smooth and also sends touch input from the iPad to your computer.
Hey Lon, I just want to ask that I usually shoot at 25fps does Cam Link supports 25 fps / 50 fps as well? because I can't find this information on their site.
Very nice vintage PCs you got there in the background, next to the shuttle photo :):) I remember those, we used to play Digger and Arcanoid on such PCs.
I may cater part of my review as somewhat of a response video-esque thing to yours, as I feel there's some important bits you missed about how they handle the signal compared to something like the original HD60 and such. But you covered things from a low-end hardware side that I wouldn't have fully hit on.
Hello sir, did you experience any lag and audio desync when using the Cam Link? Did you manually had to sync the audio for this video when you edited it? Thanks.
Lon, I think you said your Macbook Air is about 5 years old meaning it's a 2012. If so, then it wouldn't have USB 3 right? I ask because I have an iMac that I wanted to use this on to turn my Sony A7R II into an extra webcam but my iMac is a 2012 and only has USB 2. Any idea if this will work? My specs are iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 32gb Ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2 GB. Whatta ya think?
That's what I was thinking but I do have an Extremecap3 U3 and just noticed one of it's requirements is USB 3 as well and it works fine. Maybe I'll go ahead and give the Cam Link a try. Thanks for all the great information!
Tengo problemas para que se vea en pantalla mi DSLR Nikon p520 (lo que sale en pantalla son las fotos capturadas y no la cámara en vivo) por favor, si alguien sabe como resolver este problema.
Hello , this is a nice video to watch but the problem is that some cameras supports elgato and have a clean hdmi and everything, the problem is they don’t have a live feed and doesn’t apear in the pc . Please if u have a solution for this or anyone knows that gonna be nice :) .
I'm having serious issues getting both the hd60s and the camlink to both work on my streaming PC. If I start the camlink in el gato capture software...close it then open up OBS I can get both of them running simultaneously. But if i try running it straight from OBS I can't the cam link to work. Obviously its not the computer or USB port i'm using because i can get them both working albeit in a cumbersome workdaround.
Will the camlink work with a Nikon Coolpix L820 as the hdmi on displays images and pre-recorded video. And the USB is A/V out. Can you please give me some advice please?
Quick question for you... I want to use the Canon SL3 for live streaming and web conferences. Legato says their cam link products are not compatible with the SL3 because the SL3 does not have an unlimited run-time due to this it will turn itself off to save power after a certain time of inactivity. Can you tell me what hook-up device you use to connect the SL3 to computer to facilitate live streaming? Do you know if there is a way to turn off the auto shut off?
Soooo, would you say that if you need to input 4-5 cameras, even with a "good" desktop computer, something like the magewell or avermedia might work better?
Have you tried, or could you try it also on Linux system (Fedora/Ubuntu/Arch/whatever) as it's UVC? Does it run in "Windows mode" or "Mac mode" while connected to Linux system?
How is the Lag on this, I capture multiple cameras with Black Magic cards, and I'm wondering if these would be as lag less as those in terms of the live action displaying on the computer.
will this work with wirecast? I have a laptop with a 6th gen i7 processor, 8gb of ram, and 4gb graphics card, which should be more than powerful enough to handle it.
Thank you for a review! I need to stream lectures using my video camere and having an Android smartphone (Samsung Galaxy a50). In avermedia device description on their site it is specified that it is OK to use with Android, for other devices it is not true. I wonder if I have some other options on the market... I have also seen a device from Magewell that captures HDMI signal and then sends it to web via Wi-Fi. But it is bigger than those you reviewed.
Hey Lon, love your videos man. I don’t purchase anything tech without watching your channel first. Do you think that iOS devices could recognize this when plugged in to the powered Apple iOS usb camera adapter? I’d hate to shell out the money for it if I’m not sure. It’d make a great way to use iOS devices to capture gaming. Thanks in advance, Seth, P.S., are you a ham radio operator?
Lon.TV I could see you having a field day with it. I’ve been a ham for 13 years now. Check out APRSDROID and ham radio mesh networking... a good show to check out on youtube is ham radio 2.0. If you want to learn, hit me up.
Lion, any chance you can ask for a sample of the Elgato Game Capture 4K60 Pro, im particularly interested on seeing if this has less artefacts than NDI on a 2560x1440 144fps
+markr041 windows manager was the CPU required to render the capture on screen. Valid to include it as this is the overhead a streaming app might need to accomplish the same task.
Lon.TV are you saying that if one uses Skype, say, and the device to display the video feed you would also have to use Windows Manager? I thought Windows Manager just reports resource usage, which in my experience uses up a lot of cpu cycles by itself. I am not disagreeing, just trying to understand. I always learn a lot from your videos.
Hey Lon. Could you stream this feed love to RU-vid? Would this allow you to broadcast a sports game, or would the i5 pc get bogged down? Would you lose any quality @ 1080p? Thanks
I have a question please answer. If I were to use a Canon Dslr for live streaming, how do I charge the Dslr so it doesn't run out of charge? because you actually have to take out the battery, so I don't get how this would work.
Did you ever get the answer to this? I believe you can, but it takes a little extra tweaking. I'm going to be forced to buy a new computer. My iMac is from 2011. 😬
