Your videos seem kinda laidback and effortless, but I alway come away feeling like I’ve had the gear in my own hands. What I’m trying to say is, your reviews are top class. Cheers Jordan

I agree that the more practical solution would be to have the cable storage on the bottom of the arm, but I think the reason they didn't do that is because the weight of the cables would likely make the plates fall off. They would have to use very strong magnets or some other plate retention mechanism to keep that from happening.
@Erick726
@Erick726 Год назад
They can afford strong magnets. They just cheaped out. I'd pay an extra $5 bucks for some strong magnets and under storage. heck I'd pay an extra $20 if they had a more elegant design than knobs and an Allen wrench. It looks flimsy and I move my gear around a lot in a day so I can imagine it breaking after a year.

I've just put this exact setup together thanks to your awesome video, thank you mate! It's made me realise I need a longer XLR cable to thread through the Wave stand to then hook up to a cloudlifter which I'll strap under the table. Any recommendations on length of the cable mate? Cheers!

hi, you noticed the magnetic plates, you wished they where on the bottom ?? is it possible to loosen that screw that far it comes off and flip that arm basicly upside down and screw it back ? then you can put the cable in there when it comes from under the microphone.

Great review, as usual. If it were me, I’d Velcro the Allen key to the underside of the horizontal portion of the arm, nearest the desk clamp.

For sure. After making this video I had the idea to dump the Allen Key into the cable tray near the clamp. Seems like a good spot.

Those are a lot of compromises with this mic arm. I'm on the fence. I do prefer an under vs over setup but those magnets are super weak and the joints seem like they're hard to manage. Instead of having to loosen and tighten as I go which would eventually break the joints I'd prefer something with tension that just stays where I put it. As someone who adjusts things a hundred times a day I'm not sure I trust tension knobs and Allen wrenches.

Alan keys do suck, but at least you can put it in the magnetic part of this arm in with the cable. Trick is remembering that's where you put it.

You have no idea how helpful this was for me. Thank you. I am looking to mount an Elgato Facecam to a podium, and its edges are not horizontal but vertical. That changes everything, and I am having a very tough time finding a boom arm that I'm confident will not spin or move after it is in place. The time you spend with the clamp helps me a lot. In your opinion, would this be a good arm to clamp to a vertical piece wooden edge instead of horizontal?

Pity about the 60mm desk clamp limitation, I need 70mm. The design of the desk clamp also makes clamping down on fancy edges problematic.

Hey, Quick question. I have this arm and mine only came with one tension knob installed (at the mic ball head), and not at the end of arm like yours. I checked other videos and seems to be intended the way I received it. Did yours come like that or did you install that yourself?

I just recently got this arm and my SM7B seems way too heavy, I feel like I’m over tightening one of the arms just to keep it up, any reason why this is? Or is it typically normal to feel like you have to really put a lot of strength into tightening it?
@kettnercreative
@kettnercreative 2 года назад
I think you can see in this video, we never had to put an unusual amount of effort into tightening the stand to hold the microphone in a variety of positions. This is why we try to leave these videos long and without cutting out all of the mundane details - we try to demonstrate what it's like to actually use it. You shouldn't need a tool or extra leverage to tighten the tension knobs.
@radioimpound
@radioimpound 2 года назад
Mine is doing the same with the SM7B. just falls to the desk. ive tried tightening it to the point i cant anymore. I talked to elgato support and basically nothing they can do. so ive accepted the fact that it just doesnt work well with this mic.

@@radioimpound what I did to somewhat aid it to hold better is tighten it while Angling it up more so It doesn’t fall so far down.
@JasonBacchetta
@JasonBacchetta 2 года назад
@@_Doom_20 It looks like there may be two versions of this product floating around. One that has an additional knob (where the two arms connect), and another that requires an Allen key for that location. At the moment, if you go to the official product page, you can even see photos showing two different versions. I received the version with the knob, and it seems to hold my Rode Procaster (with added pop filter and shock mount) just fine. I did have to tighten it quite a bit, though. I have the Shure SM7B arriving this week, and am hoping that'll work just as well with this arm. If you notice in the video, @Kettner Creative seems to have the version with the knob. I'd be curious to know which version people are using when they're reporting that this arm doesn't hold weight. @Radio Impound Podcast and @James Morales Photography ?

Great review I ended up buying this whole setup based on how flexible it is with the mounting options (I got the one that you don't need the Allen key so it has a knob to tighten by hand.. Got one question though if you don't mind answering. The extension tube? I'm planning on buying a gain booster so will want to mount the extension tube on it... Is it the elgato extension rod your using or the shure one.. I know this arm comes with adapters but unsure what I should buy. Many thanks

I just got this arm and immediately my mic no generates a crap ton of desk noise (I can hear my computer fans in my headphones) - how'd you use this without a shockmount? I have a PodMic - and Rode doesn't make a book arm for it :( You didn't really test the mic, could you? I swear I had no noise with my cheap boom arm and when I went to this, my mic is unusable.
