VAL, if you see this, it's your boy Bruce! Miss you baby! - For those who don't know, Val, Fred Jenkins and myself - Bruce Jones co-wrote most of Val's first album Seduction. Fred and I co-produced - Waiting For You, Let's Fall in Love, If You Should Ever Be Lonely, Come Hang Out and Telling Me Lies. Rick did Seduction and I believe Kenny Hawkins did a joint on the album also. I also co-wrote Party All the Time with Rick James for Eddie Murphy, but he took my name off (that's another story) - I met Val when she was singing with the Gap Band. I was a writer on the same label, Total Experience Records. Val came in the studio one day and heard me playing keyboards and said, "Damn, you can play! When I do my album, I want you to play on it." About a year later, I get a call at 1am in the morning, and it's Val, and she's telling me to come to Malibu where Rick is filming the video for Ebony Eyes, with Smokey Robinson, she wanted to introduce us and for me to let Rick hear some of my music. Long story short, Rick and Val loved what they heard and a week later Val, Fred and I were in cold ass Buffalo NY putting the record down. Best part was that Val cooked every night! She can throw down! Another trivia, "In My House" was originally written for Val by Rick James. Her vocals were the bomb! Benny Medina at Motown had Rick take her vocals off and give it to the Mary Jane girls. - we were originally a group Val and the Boys, but it was decided for Val to be solo. Love you Val!
